I think this is the first MLB The Show I've played that randomly crashes on me. Not the server exception thing—this is the crash that closes the game on you and kicks you to your console's main menu. Playstation players might be familiar with the (CE-34878-0) error code. Yes, that kind of crash.
The crashes happen at random. It's happened to me during games, in the process of starting a game, in the conquest map screen, scrolling through my inventory, doing exchanges, all sorts of places.
I know this game has been out less than a month at the time of this post, but I don't think any game before this has crashed like this.
Can this be fixed, please? Post here if this has happened to you, too.
That CE error is twofold. I've posted about getting it with my old PS4 When trying to update my MLB files after certain patches each of the last two years.
I've narrowed it down to a internal firewall or port issue with some aspect of the code within the patch.
When I moved my PS4 to a completely different network, I'm usually able to update the patch. I then bring the PS back to the original location and can play without issue.
That CE error is related to network traffic being interrupted mid stream. Best example I can give is thinking about blocks of data being like a paragraph. During transmission, it's imperative that each paragraph get sent an received uninterrupted. Should that block of data get paused for whatever reason, welcome to CE-34878-0.
Since the majority of Xbox users DON'T have this issue (same goes for me and my old PS4), you need to think about your environment and what's different.
I have my PS4 at the school I run IT for. As the network administrator with a dedicated $4000 Watchguard firebox device that monitors network traffic for malware, ransomware excessive network traffic etc, it's a pain in the rump, but the only way around it.
Patch 4 has something that's not user friendly for your network if it's crashing during gameplay. I'd suggest checking your router or modem firmware too as an alternate solution.
Good luck.
EDIT
I think I mis-spoke. Different CE error. Mine was CE-40851-8. That's what I get for trying to troubleshoot at 5:30 am before having a cup of coffee. Hahaha
Here's a link though for resolution from the PS4 support area

For Xbox users, I'd suggest clearing out your cache, powering off for 3 minutes then rebooting. In searching this morning, some other Xbox games get that error code, and a cache dump has fixed it.
