Odds are, Paul Sewald would have either, 1) pitched around Yordan and walked him and would proceed to get Alex Bregman out or 2) would have gotten Yordan out.Even if they put Swanson or Flexen, they probably would have done better.
The look on Servais's face at the end was priceless, he looked embarrassed as [censored] and I'm rooting for the Mariners to win as I absolutely despise the Astros more than any other guy out there

This is my rage post, I'm sorry, I just had to do it.
It was a tough situation to be in for the Mariners. Houston is stacked and putting in probably your best pitcher in to close out the game might’ve been his best move. Ray just diidnt make the right pitch. He threw the same pitch two times in a row and the second pitch was across the middle of the plate. The worst thing you can do is throw a pitch anywhere in Yordan’s wheelhouse. I don’t think Yordan could’ve hit that ball any harder. That ball was smoked.

It was a bad move only because it did not work out. Ray is a left handed Fastball, Slider, Sinker pitcher. This is what you want when you are facing a left handed batter. Now the problem is that the batter was Yordan who is one of the best hitters in the league but the match up was solid. To say they should have walked Yordan is total hindsight. This would have loaded the bases but more importantly puts the tieing run in scoring position so a base hit by Bregman could have tied it. Now Ray makes a bad pitch and Yordan knew it was coming (or someone told him which ptich was coming, haha) and he ends the game. Sevais looks like an idiot but it really was a match up that favored the pitcher as much as possible versus someone the caliber of Yordan.

The bottom line is Ray did not get the job done when he was called upon. It is easy to say it was the wrong move after the fact.

Managerial decisions in the post season are always magnified. It worked in 2001. However, I’ve never been a fan of taking out the closer in favor of a starter who’s not used to coming in the game late.

Agree w/ most here… at the time I didn’t like it (which doesn’t mean squat to Scott), but if Ray had succeeded, I would have simply thought HOW AESOME IS IT THAT WE (the Ms, but as fans we like to include ourselves
) JUST PULLED OFF AN UPSET WIN IN HOUSTON! More so than thinking about it being a genius move…But, I suppose, as a fan, all I can pray for now is SEA isn’t completely shell shocked after all this and performs over the next 3 games!!
I’ll end on another sour, yet similar call… “just run Marshawn”!!! 🤪

I think Russ experienced that a little bit the other day too when they lost on a 4th in 1 in the red zone, it made me think of that almost immediately after.

I mean it’s pretty clear the difference in the series so far is Yordan Alvarez, full stop. That pitch he hit 371’ oppo was 98mph well off the plate. Tip of the 🧢.
