This has to be the best post on this forum, everything is spot on and I tip my hat off to you.

Totally agreed.
SDS's design decisions with respect the "universal player" and it's impact upon RTTS are profoundly disturbing for the people that have been playing that mode for years. Gone are the days of having multiple unique characters with unique looks, gear choices, playing styles, etc. Heck, you can't even "start over" because there is no starting over. Once you've levelled up your "universal player" (meaning base stats have progressed from 30 towards the cap of 50), there is no going back. If you start a brand-new RTTS career with a developed account, your guy is going to be way OP for AA ball right off the bat - nothing you can do about that.
Like you, I've been a customer of this franchise for years. I'm a young 55. And almost every year I have looked forward to this game's release date (2020 was an exception due to COVID). 95% of my play time is RTTS. And this release, on the whole, has been the most disappointing garbage I've ever seen SDS attach their name to.
I've really tried hard to like this game. I have two different archetypes levelled up to Diamond, one to Gold, and one to Silver. My "base stats" on my "universal player" are near 50 across the board except for bunting (I never bunt). But I think I'm going to go back to 2020 to get away from the universal player concept.
@Tarne67_PSN Great post. Appreciate your insight.

First off, I want to say thank you for the 16 years I have enjoyed playing The Show, except maybe the start of 2018 when we couldn’t choose our starting team in RTTS. There have been some ups and downs but I have always enjoyed it.
However, I think this might be my last year. Not threatening or anything, it just appears I’m getting to old for the game being almost a 6o yr. old gamer. I could never use the pci. My mind only has enough time to figure out timing and whether it’s a strike or not and sometimes not even enough time for that. I have never been able to use it. So, I can never do the online missions or mission difficulty beyond all-star because the pci shrinks so much. I am not much of a DD player being mostly a rtts player but I do like to do a lot of the missions, conquest, and event stuff but too much of it involves playing online and I can’t do it. I just get creamed by everyone and can never advance. I do get addicted to opening packs lol, probably nostalgia from doing it so much when I was a kid. I would never ask for a game to be dumbed down and I am not. Just pointing out my own personal reasons.
But, on to the main issue.
I love RTTS. Every year I would create 3-4 players. All with different looks, names, personalities etc. I always did a power guy, a contact speedster, a starting pitcher, and sometimes a closer. I enjoyed developing them through their career and establishing them as the top in their position. But you have taken all this away. I can’t even make one with a different name or change how they look or anything due to your push towards making everyone play DD. As a RTTS player I still bought stubbs because I wanted the gear for them and like I said, I get addicted to opening packs. There was no need for this push. And speaking of pushing, I wish the game would stop asking me if I wanted to be a two position player. Leave me alone and let me play the game I want to play. Sorry, little rant there. I just get frustrated when I ask myself, Is anyone at SDS a true gamer or have they all forgotten what it’s like to be a gamer and enjoy playing, creating your character, and developing them? You have taken all this away from me and made it all very generic and because of that I do not think I can continue. I will just go back a few years and play that one over and over again.
I really doubt this will fall upon any ears or if any would agree with me, but it’s my 2 cents.
In addition, just some side notes..
You need a way to be able to call your agent instead of waiting for his yearly one call.I do not understand this double stat thing and see no purpose for it. Why are they 30-50 but then on my card everything goes to 100 and there seems to be no correlation. 40 speed might be 93 speed but 40 contact might only be 75 contact. It makes zero sense.
Check swings, annoying. I mash the button and get nothing but a check swing, usually only on curveballs and change ups. Add in feature to disable them. I like the realism but when it’s not working its needs to be able to be shut off.
Thank you,
Excellent Post! Hope you get what you ask for!

They are definitely going to lose RTTS customers after what they decided to do.
-
Very well written!! Thank you! I think this post will have more impact than the constant complainers. I hope they can make a large enough game update to separate RTTS as you requested.
-
Fantastic post, agree on a lot of this!
-
couldn't agree more! definitely the end of an era and as much as I don't want to say it this is probably my last year playing the show as well. It was good a run

That’s really sad. As a gamer, I’m finding fewer and fewer games I have the patience for. Maybe the OP plays a ton of other games, but I’d bet not. So it sucks to have a game that you still enjoy playing all of a sudden change to where it’s no longer enjoyable. I’d like to see SDS make some concessions with the rtts/ballplayer so as not to alienate players who strictly want to do offline.

100%, thought out and not combative. Great post and I agree with what you're saying.

Absolutely spot on. I agree 100%.
I usually pre-order but I haven't bought 2021 yet because I was waiting to get a PS5. Turns out that was a good thing.
I'll just keep playing 2020 until it quits, I guess.
How sad. -
Thanks for all the positive feedback.

I couldn't agree more, for years I was a Franchise and RTTS only player. Now i'm pretty much exclusively a DD player. But never in my years of playing did I think it would be a good Idea for the two to cross paths. Hey OP very well written!
-
Great post. Also good to see I am not the only old man (52) playing this game.
To be honest, I didn't know you couldn't start a new player in RTTS, well I tried and things seem a mess now with two different builds. The game always asking me what loadout I want to use. Very confusing. Not turning out great for wanting to play different types of players. I even deleted the first loadout I created because it was so confusing and was tired of the same question every time I finish a game and would move to the next. In the past, if I got bored with DD I would go to RTTS and play my power hitter. When I got bored of him I would move to my SP or CP. And sometimes create a speedy SS and steal a lot of bases and rack up the triples. Guess those days are gone. And with no great changes Franchise Mode, I not sure how much I will be going to that mode when DD and RTTS get boring. Sad SDS, very sad.
My grandfather, when I was young would tell me if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Now there were areas to improve but for the most part, they were on to a good direction with RTTS. Now, seems geared to how they can make more money off of each mode. Guess making the money off the game sales isn't enough. But I hope they make up for the money they will be losing from disappointed loyal customers in the future. For me with the server issue and the lack of communication from SDS, I will finish out this year with the game but next year they need to address us and really listen to us or I could myself be moving on from the Show.
-
Great post @Tarne67_PSN. I totally agree with you. I'm also a RTTS player and what you are saying about it is exactly why I can't seem to enjoy this year's version of the game.
Well written post, I hope someone at SDS like @Collin_SDS_PSN or @Victor_SDS_PSN will read it.

I appreciate them trying to add new stuff in but tis was definitely the wrong approach in my opinion. Maybe add things like something to spend your salary on like buying a nice house and some cars and bling. Definitely building up a trophy room so you can admire all your trophy's. They could even add extras in to the packs to help generate some extra revenue.
The more depth and the more development of my players the better. Makes me feel more involved with their progression.

This is a frustrating oversight specifically, IMO. If we're going to have locked positions based off our current loadout, we need to be able to request a position change whenever we want to be start working on a new archetype without having to start a new career.

I get your point but it's a "Maybe" for me as doing that would take even more realism away... I can't imagine a 1B in real-life converting to CF overnight...
However, if they plan on keeping the universal Ballplayer it's probably a good idea... Starting over in AA with a player that has all its base attributes maxed out isn't realistic at all... So... If they keep this feature, they already allow us to change our player's attributes overnight, so it make sense that we could change position... I mean of you want to build something unrealistic, go All-In with it!
I think the best way would be to revert to the old mechanism. You can build different players for different purpose and "live" different career paths. Take RTTS 2020 and add the choice to be 2Way player would be pretty good. Make sure to ask only one time at the start though...
I'd get rid of the Loadouts, but it would require a lot of rework which is impossible to ask as an update on a yearly released game.
I have hopes for 2022, can't wait for SDS to confirm their intentions with RTTS....

Brilliant post and I completely agree with everything you've said. I absolutely love RTTS and and main liner it every year. This year I was intrigued by the idea of a two way player especially playing in the NL. I decided to create a SS for my Yankees because Torres is not the future SS.
I really enjoyed playing every fifth day as a SP and then every other day playing as SS. Both loadouts were progressing really well and I was doing some damage at the plate even with equipment bonuses not working. I finally got called up to the bigs and even though I knew I couldn't DH the same day I was pitching I was already thinking long term about a switch to the NL.
Finally the day came where we were playing on the road at the Braves and I was starting pitcher. A light bulb went off in my head as I started at the loadout selection screen, I can only select one loadout so what happens to all of my insane hitting attributes in game. The answer was the end to the last remaining bit of immersion, my guy steps up to the plate and has 50 contact and 50 power base attributes as opposed to close to 100 in each for my hitter loadout. My SS is the best hitter in the league and here I am at the plate having suffered temporary amnesia and have forgotten how to hit.
1-3 at the plate on the day with my only hit being a grounder in the gap to get a single. Also had a perfect prefect die at the warning track, if it had of been my SS it would've gone a mile.
I don't know how this made it through testing, simple solution is being able to activate 2 loadouts for games - one hitter and one pitcher.
-
Hey! Exactly similar to my post. The loadouts. Same base stats for each save is so bad. I want multiple completely different players all starting from the bottom. Getting rid of that because of DD tie in is the worst decision they ever made. Also the 2 way player they had to make loadouts for it to work. Sigh.
-
I don’t know if it is possible, but perhaps instead of My (only) Ball Player they could make it My (current) Ball Player, so we could cycle through different player builds with different positions or pitches?
