    RE: Reinstalling MLBTS 2019...

SDS - Please read this... This.... Sums it up...

Especially the Henderson / Cabrera / Kershaw image... This game isn't playing and "becoming a player" balancing Strengths/Weaknesses anymore. It has become "a fantasy were your past decision won't impact your future at all since you change everything with 2 clicks".

Realism is gone... Our RTTS players aren't fun see evolve anymore... They're just image of "what do I wanna do today? Who cares about the past or the future?"

But who cares about realism when the goal is simply to link everything to DD which is their monetized game mode...

Any news on if SDS plan to let us have more than one RTTS player???

If the plan is to have only one player in RTTS and if we don't have the ability to start over from scratch, just be honest and let us know. Would be nice to know if it's on your roadmap or not.

    Thanks.

I'm curious what type of communication people expect?

Do you want them to come out and say

"Yeah, our servers are awful. We are trying every night to resolve the issues to the best of our ability but at this time we have no estimate on when they will be 100% working".

Will that make you feel better? Will it just upset you more? They can't give you answers they don't even know yet and they are not going to go into technical details about the servers. They are not going to discuss compensation or remedies until the problems are resolved.

And this is not me defending them or excusing the inexcusable down times. It is honestly me being curious as to what type of communication would satisfy you?

Any good company that employs any one with decent PR experience would tell you :

    1. Acknowledge the problem. It will also help angry people reposting the same problems over and over since we'd know they are aware of them. Provide a simple list.... (That's Easy)

    2. Show empathy and say you're sorry. At least it would help the tone of certain post around here... If I'm ignored, I'm angry and I'm direct... If I feel someone cares, I'll be open to discussion... (That's also really easy)

    3. Show your roadmap. Tell your customer what you will fix and explain what you won't fix. If possible provide a timeline, but at least let people know your priority... E.g.

    • Server problem are a top priority,
    • RTTS Equipments will be fixed priority #2,
    • Having more than one Ballplayer in RTTS isn't feasible this year but will be addressed in 2022,
    • Custom Music in "sound of the Show" isn't a priority, it won't be planned in a near future,
    • etc...
(That requires a bit of planning... But It's been 3 weeks, they should have a roadmap by now)

If they do that, it's basic, simple communication. Instead of writing/reading hundreds of post, at least we'd know their plan and what to expect... It would solve probably 50% of the topics on this forum.

You need a way to be able to call your agent instead of waiting for his yearly one call.

This is a frustrating oversight specifically, IMO. If we're going to have locked positions based off our current loadout, we need to be able to request a position change whenever we want to be start working on a new archetype without having to start a new career.

I get your point but it's a "Maybe" for me as doing that would take even more realism away... I can't imagine a 1B in real-life converting to CF overnight...

However, if they plan on keeping the universal Ballplayer it's probably a good idea... Starting over in AA with a player that has all its base attributes maxed out isn't realistic at all... So... If they keep this feature, they already allow us to change our player's attributes overnight, so it make sense that we could change position... I mean of you want to build something unrealistic, go All-In with it!

I think the best way would be to revert to the old mechanism. You can build different players for different purpose and "live" different career paths. Take RTTS 2020 and add the choice to be 2Way player would be pretty good. Make sure to ask only one time at the start though...

I'd get rid of the Loadouts, but it would require a lot of rework which is impossible to ask as an update on a yearly released game.

I have hopes for 2022, can't wait for SDS to confirm their intentions with RTTS....

Why not Bellinger plays 1B and OF with like 75+speed

If you keep the same skill set at every position, I'm ok with it... 2nd position were in the game prior years and versatility is a key part of baseball.

My point was that it's mind boggling that one day I'm a slow power hitter and the next and a Speedy defender that can bunt for hit... Play me at another position or ask me if I want to try a new position, that's great! But I should come with my attributes, my strengths and my flaws. I should not be able to change 2 cards and now be the best in the league at that position.

But anyway, since they said yesterday that this is "the foundation" of future RTTS iterations, if they keep loadouts and if we're stuck with ONE player without the ability to start over, might as well have complete liberty and let us change position at every game depending on how we feel...

That game was supposed to be a simulation built for realism and was advertised as such but we got an arcade game mode built for fun and instant gratification. That's why I'm angry at SDS... They should have said what they took away from the mode in the feature premiere instead of hiding everything and only talk about a podcast that 80% of players skip as fast as they skip ads on YouTube...

    Thanks.

You just start a new save...

Having 2 players and starting new saves are two completely different things...

Starting from scratch with a new player/career is different than having your already All-star level player at the MLB level start back in AA with a new save...

Starting over from scratch provide a replay ability within the mode. Starting a new save with the same player is taking away even more realism than the loadouts have already taken away from that mode...

That's why I asked @Collin_SDS_PSN if they plan on letting know their customers what is their plan...

If you take off all the equipment, archetype and perks you can start AA as a 60 something and just add stuff to progress yourself when you think it’s time. 😐

So basically, players should compensate with their own set of made up rules when design decisions break something that was working perfectly fine before...

Granted that It's a workaround to keep a relatively realistic playthrough, but paying 100$ on a game, my expectations as a customer are that the game should improve over time... SDS self branded TheShow21 as the most realistic baseball simulation... Unfortunately that title applies to TheShow20, not TheShow21...

I don't ask for it to revert back to what it was, I'm just asking what is their plan. It's their choice and if they want to steer everyone in the Fantasy card playing/trading/buying, I'm ok with it... I just want to know what is the plan so I can decide if I keep on waiting for that iteration of the game to be updated or if I put the game away.

The way they handle this situation will help me adjust my customer behavior and future buying decisions regarding their products.

That's simple customer service 101 for a company that claim to "listen to their players"...

Granted, they never said they replied to their customers, they said they listen...

    RTTS Broken with MyBallplayer

I love to play different positions and start different RTTS saves with different teams. With the "MyBallPlayer" I can start different RTTS but it's always the same player and the attributes carry from saves to saves...

Which means I can start a new save but the player is already a beast at the AA level... No progression, no fun... We need to be able to have multiple Ball Player or RTTS is now a worthless game mode...

The mode is not meant to build a player from the minor to the major anymore... It's about building a Beast that slams dingers and throw fireballs effortlessly...

Realism and ability to have fun build different player is gone... Please patch this and make it possible again to have different players with different careers with different attributes... Using loadouts of the same player over and over without the ability to start from scratch on different RTTS Personnas is Boring...

I deeply regret my purchase... Please fix it...

Yup, immersion and realism are gone...

Loadouts are great for DD, but they contribute a lot to ruin the RTTS experience... Being a speedy gold glove defender on monday and a hulking power hitter on Tuesday makes it really hard to relate to your RTTS player...

First time I ever experienced a career mode where everything changes on the fly without consequences... Who would have thought that in real life, players got better by playing cards instead of actually practicing and showing greatness on the field...

But I doubt it goes back to the old method. Though I hope I am wrong but I think the load outs are here to stay.

You're right - loadouts and Archetypes are definitely here to stay. SDS has said as much already. Something about how this is the direction they are going to build on in the future. But my opinion is that they definitely could have implemented this without impacting RTTS nearly as much as they have in 2021.

The game play in 2021 is actually quite good, and there are things I like about the Archetype system. SDS could "fix" RTTS, imo, by making one major change - allow second and subsequent RTTS careers to NOT be linked to the Universal Profile. Meaning they could start at "30" all over again - could have a different physical appearance - maybe could even learn to throw a knuckleball and also not have the exact same pitch selection as the "main" RTTS save - and pick their own secondary position if they truly do not want to be a 2-way player. Yet at the same time allow games played with the "non-linked" RTTS career to count towards Archetype and Program progression (because everyone wants goodies). This fairly simple (in concept at least) change could resolve about 95% of the issues that players seem to have with RTTS.

And, yes, allow RTTS to function in offline mode. Points you earn towards progression should simply be in local cache until server connectivity is restored.

Hopefully in a future version. Obviously not going to happen in 2021, so I'm back to playing 2020 for now.

I hope you're Right. It is a viable compromise if they do everything you said.

Let's hope they'll listen to this.

@SamuSuppiluliuma - I salute you sir. Your post is well written very detailed and hopefully something SDS looks at when trying to figure out what went wrong with this year's version of the game.

Going to sound cynical for a minute. They will look at 1 thing. How much money did it make

If initial sales were good, and if people felt obligated to pay real money for stubs to purchase things like equipment and perks, they will look and say “yeah there were complaints but they still bought it”

So any real change probably won’t come til the year after next. And then only if sales next year are awful. And let’s be honest, they probably won’t be awful

This is the direction they decided to go with RTTs so barring a financial loss I doubt a major overhaul will occur next year

In fairness I can live with the loadout system. Just don’t make it attached to DD so I can play when the servers are offline

I kind of disagree with you on that point even if it seems to make sense. Any good company with strategic management wouldn't risk to wait and see next years sales to make changes.

We're online 100% of the time. Even if I bought the game this year, they have in their Stats that I played this year release maybe 27% of the amount of time I had played TheShow20 after a month of release. They can track us and measure "customer engagement" easily. They'll compare our playing time and our playing habits.

If RTTS play time drops, let's say 40% since it's so broken but DD increases 35%, I agree they probably won't change anything since players are still engaged but are playing differently. On the other hand, if Total playing time (like my case) drops because their offline mode are broken, they'll address it right away.

Engagement is the key since it's measurable all-year round. Pre-order and sales are the final indicator but since it happens only once a year they'll be foolish to base their entire strategy on it.

2B for the Blue Jays. First year in the minors. Team traded away Vladdy and Bo for some C Potential scrubs after 4 weeks. This must be the improved trade logic.

    Ouch!! Sorry to hear this...

That's why I always carry a backup save of all my RTTS saves since the show 09...

Once every 8 games I go into the "Transaction" screen to check the league/my team transactions. If the Manager did something awful, I quit, reload the save from 8 games prior, make a new copy, and continue from there hoping the GM won't make the same mistakes again...

Unfortunately with RTTS21 since you can't start from scratch with your Ballplayer, it is a must because a bad GM making 3-4 mooves can ruin your save file real quick!

@samusuppiluliuma said in If you had to choose right now RTTS 2020 or RTTS 2021?:

    20s RTTS hands down.

TL; DR: RTTS in 20 is better as a career sim than 21 in virtually every conceivable way.

    In 20 you have:

-A save file where all your player's info, appearance, and attributes are easy to find, read, and change. You can access your inventory at any time and change your player's equipment up whether online or offline.

-You start off every career as a scrub and naturally build him up over time with good play. Every new career you could choose your starting three pitches. One of those starting three pitches could even be a knuckleball!

    • The only "narrative" is that you've been switched to a different position to try out and get a secondary position. You're secondary position, as a position player, was never SP.

-In 20 you can go to my player--stats and awards and check your performance trends (bar graphs that show your swing timing, contact/good contact %, discipline, and pitch recognition as a hitter. As a pitcher it shows your pitch location and pitch type percentages), a game log that shows individual game stats and the outcomes of every single AB or innings pitched for every single game you play in a season, stats by pitch type, stats by count, scouting report, career stats, and events and awards

-In 20 if you win an award or lead the league in a category your manager emails your inbox and tells you that you've won things.

-In 20 you can raise every single attribute cap to 99 overall and train/play your way to 99 in everything regardless of archetype. Any equipment you have, except for the attributes hard-capped at 99, will go over that 99 threshold.

-In 20 you can influence your draft spot through the showcase. You have the option to go to college and reject a team that drafted you.

-In 20 you can use showtime to locate pitches/hit

-In 20 you get promoted largely based on your overall compared to others at your position. If you’re on a terrible team with no depth then you can get yourself called up in May and June once the AI decides you’re the best option. However, the allstar game has always been a trigger for promotions.

-RTTS 20 has tired old code that actually worked with itself

    In 21 you have:

    • A ballplayer menu that changes your equipment to their default locations any time you check archetype progression, a graph that isn't totally clear on what parts of your overall/attribute levels are from, and you're entirely locked out of your inventory if the servers are down. You can only have one ballplayer with one appearance at a time.

-No naturally linear player progression. Get your CAP up to 50 once in the attributes and you can't go below mid-70s in overall with only an archetype badge active. You get to choose your pitches only once, upon the first setup. And once you get your pitching attribute up to 50 in every pitching category the game FORCES you to change out a pitch to get to your next appearance. I literally changed out my fifth pitch fifteen times in a single season.

-Forced two-way narrative (It’s actually happenin--!). It's stupid that my position player gets asked to pitch and my pitcher gets asked to hit multiple times every single season. You start out every career as an SP until you lock yourself in and you'll always have pitching/whatever position you picked to field as a secondary position.

-In 21 if you go to my player--stats and awards you only see stats by count, scouting report, career stats, and event and awards. To see your performances you have to go into the calendar and manually check the box scores to see if your character played in a game or not.

-In 21 if you win an award or lead the league in a category you aren't notified at all. You have to remember to go to the league leaders and awards menus at the end of the season to see if you won anything yourself.

-In 21 there are 6 unique archetypes for pitchers and 24 for position players. You have to mindlessly grind out stats and once you get to 100 in each diamond archetype you are given one diamond perk. There are 49 diamond perks in total, 21 of them pitching related and 28 for hitters. If you grind out every single pathway you STILL have to buy 19 diamond perks to get everything in the game related to Ballplayer/RTTS. At 8,500 stubs a piece, a common sell now price for perks, it would cost at least 161,500 stubs to get everything even after you've spent hundreds of hours grinding out every single one of these stupid archetype loadouts.

-In 21 you are forced into an unskippable cutscene and chosen by a team, always drafted in the 3rd round, and do not have the option to come into professional baseball as a 19, 20, 21 year old.

-There is no showtime in 21

-In 21 the call ups are so obviously scripted, even more than in 20. You can be a 95+ ovr and the best player on your team from day one and not get called up to AAA until the day after the AA allstar game in July. You will get called up to MLB on August 1. The “oh he’s blocked at the big league level” thing is painfully obvious too. I had a 96 ovr catcher on the A’s get traded because he was “blocked” by 82 ovr Sean Murphy. What?

-21 has the same old code that desperately needs improvement but now with forced new systems and progression without any thought put into how the mode works with two-way players and archetype loadouts. The overarching goal was clearly two-way player and DD integration above all but in doing that the mode was delivered broken in every way possible and devoid of most of the fun the mode provided in previous iterations.

Woah.... That's one of the most impressive and extensive list I've seen so far... Well put, it covers pretty much everything. I 100% agree with you.

@texaschick44_psn said in If you had to choose right now RTTS 2020 or RTTS 2021?:

The game is ok. I like the idea of being a two way player but like the guy above me said if you go as a full time starter and hit in between you do not qualify for the hitting titles. Even if you have enough at bats. I also agree that we should have more control over our player. Let us talk to the manager when we want to let us choose our own agent. Let us decide when we need a rest not the computer. Let us qualify for both pitching and hitting titles. Add a story mode to it make it more about our rise to greatness if I am pitching I should not lose my hitting attributes. On days you pitch you should be able to choose both a pitching loadout and a hitting loadout.

Loadouts are one of the top two things that kills any attempt at a realistic simulation experience. They should go and we should be able to build attributes based on what we're doing on the field. (Just like in the past)

That way your past choice's influence your future progression and just like you said, if you're a two way player, you're not stuck with the problem of "forgetting how to hit" on days you pitch...

Honestly, the worst thing about the whole thing is that you only get one player and your stats carry over to new saves. It completely kills the mode, there is no longer any reason to have multiple saves, your character isn't a character he's just a COD style set of loadouts. They've ruined the journey element and taken all personality away from your player.

Truth has been spoken... Couldn't have said better. No personality, no replay value, just a one and done grind thing... It's sad...

People have to realize something when it comes to patches. There is departments pretty much that work on different parts of the game. A designer who is working on artwork and stadium detail isn't the same guy that works on servers or generally how the game works in any way, just that one specific thing. If he fixed something that he or his section worked on, why wouldn't they release a fix for it? If there is 40 small updates and it fixes everything over time, I don't care. That's why you see updates that have nothing to do with the larger problems.

Yup I know and every human being that worked on software development will agree that 40 small fixes are WAY better/easier than 1 or 2 Huge patches... The smaller the improvement cycle, the better it is.

Problems are mostly lack of communication and planning...

If people don't know what you're doing, they assume your small stadium fixes are the only thing you work on...

Transparency is the key here to keep customer faith... (I don't say keep customer happy because, well with this release happiness set sail long time ago...)
