I know this will be hard to predict
  • VK_Ratliff_PSNV VK_Ratliff_PSN

I suspect they'll keep creating new seasons of RS and BR and events because it sounds like MLB 22 appears to be in a bit of a delay. You'll have time.

But if you want the Billy Wagner experience, you can get that right now for free. Go to your bullpen, and replace one reliever. Then, you will be able to select a new reliever. Using the filters, find a common that is no higher than 62 rating, and make sure he's a lefty. Now, pretend he's Billy Wagner, and bring him out online. You will give up 7 homers in a row, just like if you had the real Billy Wagner card!

Yo this is the MLB the show forum. They didn’t install the Taco Bell drive thru yet. So either move your car or we are going to tow.

  • Mookie Betts isn't a very good hitter. I think I know why.
  • VK_Ratliff_PSNV VK_Ratliff_PSN

I just got done playing an Event game against a dude with a World Series icon and a 12-0 banner. His leadoff hitter was Mookie Betts, and I got a little glimpse of his numbers with him. He wa[censored]ting .225 with Betts.

I immediately knew I was up against a monster, cause my own batting average with Betts is .161, and I've used him enough to get him to P4.

I don't think I've ever played anyone that wa[censored]ting well with Betts. Anyone with decent numbers with Betts has at least 6 other players on their team with even better numbers, IMO.

So we can conclude that this Betts card can't hit, which isn't a surprise, cause no Betts card has ever been very good. But why?

    2 Part Theory:

    • Betts is a RHH and Degrom and Cabrera are both RHP. Relevant particularly for this event, but also overall. In my case, five out of six online at bats have been against RHP, and this is a large sample size. So that's tuff. But Marcus Semien is also a RHH, so there must be more, and that's this:

    • Betts is classified as an "extreme pull" hitter. Have you ever tried to pull a ball in this game? Any swing even a millimeter on the early side of perfect, on any ball down the middle or anywhere inside, high or low, will be pulled foul. Perfect/perfect foul [censored] (always on the pull side) are a thing in this game. This results in all of Betts' best contact simply sailing harmlessly foul on the pull side.

    Conclusion:
Betts is a liability at the plate. If you can hit with Betts and have good stats with him, I might believe you, but first show me your stats with Semien. I guarantee you Betts is doing worse. The conclusion is, avoid pull hitters.

It's true, the rubber banding in this game is so obvious, I haven't even seen anyone from SDS bother to deny it anymore. I don't like it. But when you pay careful attention, you realize that the pitcher confidence meter is how this whole game operates. I don't think this game would even work if it was just a neutral thing, like the role of the chess board in chess. It wouldn't even work I don't think, unless they went XCOM, and actually let it be RNG. Perfect/perfect? You get a 90% hitchance, and it's actually 90%, regardless of gamestate. Late/Ok? You get a 15% hit chance, and it's actually 15%, regardless of gamestate. Don't even get your PCI on a pitch? You get a 0% hit chance, a swing and a miss, 100% of the time. And so on.

Such a game would be so awesome. But so would living the life of Leonardo Dicaprio. Odds of either happening are about even, at 0.0%.

  • DDA in sports games
  • VK_Ratliff_PSNV VK_Ratliff_PSN

I agree with you. And don't call me a nerd, hear me out. The state of gaming will not change. Games are sold to children and children these days expect a trophy and a ceremony just for showing up. It'll only get worse.

I did find the solution, and this is where you need to not call me a nerd. Chess. That's right, good old fashioned chess. Impossible to fill with DDA, and therefore EA and SDS don't make it. But that's the point.

I'm just learning but I'll smoke you with my Sicillian Defense. But if it goes south, at least I'll know that's cause you beat me, not cause the game had me scheduled for a loss there.

When will SDS incorporate the concept of relics into their cards? It might already be too late now that Fanatics thinks that all baseball card collectors are just gonna put their money into Fanatics cheap trash. But in real life baseball cards, relic cards are a big deal. I personally own a Hank Aaron gold refractor Topps Finest, numbered to 24, that is worth about $5K (there is a green relic on ebay right now for 4K and mine is better). It has a real sliver of his real actual game used bat incorporated into the card (as well as a hand signed auto).

Other collectable cards have pieces of jerseys in them. SDS should get into that, again, before Fanatics takes over and turns baseball cards into trash collecting.

  • Wow this Finest card art is the best
  • VK_Ratliff_PSNV VK_Ratliff_PSN

Johnny Bench, in real life, was probably the best catcher of all time. But in the game, he's demonstrably worse than Jonah Heim. Anyone that uses Johnny Bench, no joke, I feel a degree of sympathy towards. Poor guy doesn't have the time to try out all the different options, so he goes by ratings and thinks he has a good card. He doesn't know. He doesn't know 😞

  • Who is NOT Grinding for Griffey?
  • VK_Ratliff_PSNV VK_Ratliff_PSN

I got him right quick. Put him into a ranked game and right away he comes to bat in the 1st with 2 on, 2 out. His very first pitch an inside cutter and I swing and FLY AWAY BASEBALL!!!!!! No doubter to right center. I'd tell ya the distance but unfortunately my opponent's connection gave out while the ball was still in the air. That's a walk-off in the first by Reds legend Griffey Jr.

Since then, a few games, a few bombs here, a few more there.... He's on a tear out there! A true card to fear if you're pitching to it. Cant recommend enough. 4 out of 4 stars, would grind again.

The most fun I ever had in this game was McCovey at San Fran, hitting dingers into the cove, people rage quitting before it could land.

I cant think of the name of that cove, but if it was up to me, I would name it after Willie.

I have a whiteboard on my wall. Whenever someone dashboards on me, it goes on the wall of dashboards, which I call the "wall of shame". Here, I have recorded all dashboard against me (for the last few weeks) by player and the type of HR dashboarded. Here is how the wall stands just for the last month or so:

Ken Griffey Jr: one 3R HR, one solo HR (both RS)
Brian Reynolds: one solo HR (RS)
    CJ Cron: GRAND SALAMI (RS)
    Jorge Posada: 2R HR (event)
    Mickey Mantle: 2R HR (event)
    Kyle Tucker: solo HR (event)

I actually quite enjoy getting dashboarded now cause it helps the list on the wall grow.

  • Babe Ruth calling his shot
  • VK_Ratliff_PSNV VK_Ratliff_PSN

I have a buddy that plays this game a ton, but so do I. We both have Babe Ruth and we savagely compete about who can put up better numbers with some lady named Baby Ruth. He tells me, and he swears he's not lying, that there is a rare walk-up animation that you sometimes get with Ruth, where the camera starts off from behind his back when he is coming out of the dugout, and then he slowly walks to the plate, and actually points to right-centerfield, calling his shot, just like the legendary true story.

I have not gotten this animation and I think my buddy Jim the Flim is pulling my leg. Any of you Show vets ever seen this animation?

Alice in Chains were great and Dirt is one of my favorite albums ever. Not many bad songs on there if any.

Now I'm the guy that gets depressed by a song. That last "Live in Concert" that Layne Staley did, shortly before he died, have you ever seen that? He was clearly on his last legs, his skin was so yellow it was almost green, but he still killed it. Every song he killed it. Rest in peace, Layne.

Yes I've seen it, he was amazing. I never got to see him preform live although I wish I had.

AIC was better than Nirvana in those days in my opinion, but Nirvana got more hype. I liked them both, but AIC was more raw.

I prefer AIC because they leaned more towards metal/ hard rock then most of the grunge bands. I don't mind Nirvana but like I said earlier I love AIC.

It's a bit of a different genre, but the same sentiment. You ever heard of Elliott Smith?

I've heard of him but I haven't listened to his music no.

duuuude you're in for a treat if you can stand depressing stuff. He died by suicide, and his manner of suicide was by stabbing himself with a knife through his own heart. So he was pretty emo.

I recommend "no name #1" by elliott smith. He won awards for the soundtrack of Good Will Hunting though. He wrote and performed that entire score for that movie.

Edited to add: King's Crossing. I'd recommend that over no name #1. Both are dynamite though.

  • 99 Griffey: Anyone else getting some outrageous defensive plays (or lack thereof)?
  • VK_Ratliff_PSNV VK_Ratliff_PSN

Ken Griffey Jr.'s 99 card in this game has terrific defensive stats, and they only get better when you get him up to P5 like your boy VK has. But I've had 4 very suspicious plays with him in CF in RS that I never had with my previous lock-down centerfielder, whom I also P5'd - Jasson Dominguez.

Two of these four plays were routine fly-outs to CF. As routine as it gets, you have that little blue circle to stand on and you catch the ball. But Griffey's hands are at his sides, and as the ball descends, he's not lifting them!!! The ball bounces two inches from his shoe and rolls to the fence. Twice this has happened - no animation kicks in whatsoever, like the game glitched and didn't realize there was a play to be made.

The other two times, I can't definitively rule out user error on, but now that it's happened twice (compared to zero with Dominguez), I note them. Also on fairly routine [censored] to CF, you gotta move Griffey over maybe 10-30 feet for the catch, and in the process, he DIVES like a clown for no reason! And you're almost positive you did not press the dive button. The ball rolls to the wall for the inside-the-parker.

I'm curious if anyone else has gotten a particular amount of defensive trouble from Griffey. Should I banish him to a corner outfield spot, or chalk it up to user-error and flukes and keep truckin?

  • Thank you SDS for teaching us how terrible of an idea Communism really is
  • VK_Ratliff_PSNV VK_Ratliff_PSN

In capitalism, there is a free market, and the laws of the market (supply and demand), determine price. If a commodity is scarce, you can expect it's price to be higher than a commodity that is common.

In communism, nothing costs anything, cause the government provides it for you. But then nothing gets produced, cause why break your back to produce something if the end result is the same? And supply falters, demand stays strong...prices do not rise though - the commodity just cannot be acquired at all.

I know that it's considered unAmerican to be into capitalism these days, and that communism is all the rage and I should get on board. But here's why I can't:

Ever try to buy a Trea Turner lately? You can't. His price is totally affordable in theory, just 1 million stubs and no more, but supply is 0, so that 1 million isn't a real price.

Ever try to buy a Vlad Guerrero Jr. lately? You can't. His price is totally affordable in theory, just 1 million stubs and no more, but supply is 0, so that 1 million isn't a real price.

Ever try to buy a Harmon Killebrew lately? You can't.

I can and might go on.

You played some good ole Texas hold 'em with Correa and he didn't pay up?

After losing half my sports betting account balance on the Super Bowl in 2017, I decided I'd make it all back and then some by hitting on a hero bet: the World Series winner preseason prop. This was just before the Dodgers became the constant mega-favorite dynasty of all of baseball - they were like the 6th or 8th favorite or so headed into that year, but I had a lot of faith in Farhan Zaidi as well as their operating budget, so I threw down on that bet like a champ. Like Nostradamus.

7 or 8 months later, the Dodgers lose to Correa's merry band of trash can cheaters in game 7 of the world series. I want my payout and I want Correa and/or buzzer boy Altuve to write the check.

Ah yeah that's rough. One of the reasons I don't gamble.

You're probably smart. I have a crazy history of getting as close as you possibly can on big futures bets with big payouts, only for my team to fail super late.

    Two additional examples:

In 2010, the Netherlands lost to Spain in the World Cup finals, by conceding the game-winner very late (I think in extra time). The Netherlands were fairly big underdogs in that Cup but I had made a decent bet on them to win it all before it started, because I felt the odds were just too good to pass up. They had crushed it in the Euros headed into the World Cup. But I lose on a goal in extra time 😞

Circa 2008, my Oregon State Beavers were projected to finish dead last in their conference in football. They were literally the biggest underdog of the Pac10 (I think this was before it became the Pac12). But my superfan buddy talked me into the Beavers being highly overlooked and we both put down bets on the Beavers to win the conference. It was like 50 to 1 - like taking the Royals to win the Series in MLB this year.

Flash forward to the Civil War game (last game of season, OSU vs. Oregon), and if the Beavs win, they win the conference and head to the Rose Bowl for the first time in my viewing lifetime. I think it was like 4 grand or more I stood to win just on that one game. They'd already shocked the world by winning enough to get to that spot, and they were at home. I got tickets along with that superfan buddy (he stood to win 20 G's) and we tailgated and boozed and were right there in person with our orange on to watch the Beavs....get utterly destroyed. Massive blowout. It was the saddest live sporting event I've ever attended.

Who needs Disneyland when you ride rollercoasters like that?
