100% agree, my friend.
This game (though good) is essentially a copy and paste job every year.
Some new bells and whistles, but rarely anything functionally different.
The hitting interface is tired.
I find it boring and didn't play hardcore in '23.
Came here to see if there was a buzz, but there obviously is not.

...but never will for '24.
- In lieu of a hitting interface overhaul, ELIMINATE the outer pci. In 7 years, no one has been able to explain what this is.
PCI size should be determined by a combo of contact and vision attributes.
Outside the PCI?
Sorry. Swing and a miss. - For the love of Jeff, get fielding under control. If you've ever played or watched a baseball game, no one this side of Ozzie Smith dives 6 ft., fields the ball clean, bounces up and throws a tracer to 1st.
Once? OK. ESPN top 10 play.
5 times a game? Sorry. - My pet peeve every year. You can't foul off a pitch that bounces. Reign in contact swing.
Don't triple the size of the PCI to make the game easier.
If you use contact swing in anything but an 0-2, 1-2 count, you are a little girl who should be playing The Show: NCAA Softball '23. - Seasons-- great idea!
But have a Wild Card for position players AND one for SP's and the bullpen.
These suggestions will not be implemented or even considered.
When you're the only "Show" in town with no competition, there is little reason to improve your game.
Copy and paste, and you have '24.Did I miss anything/everything?

Every once in a while, I run into a player who flat-out doesn't throw strikes.
I just beat a guy 3-2 with this approach.
No complaints!
It almost certainly works against most players, but despite being an average hitter on my best day, I always take a lot of pitches.
The aggravating part is when these players DO throw a strike, it's usually paint.
How do you guys approach these opponents?
I try to just sit in a spot (usually low and in), and spit on everything outside that area. -
Is there anything better in this game than absolutely pasting a player that bunt dances, tries to psyche you out by running down his timeout, and making him throw 80 pitches in 4 innings?
The answer is no.
There is literally nothing better. -
After a few years of trying to reason with a video game, I've made my peace with the Show.
How can infielders make insane diving stops and throws?
It's a video game.
How can Dumpy Pants Kyle Schwarber track a ball 300ft against the shift and make the catch?
It's a video game.
Contact Swing?
Yep. It's a video game.
SDS needs to make a game every year for the players between Spring Training level and Championship Series.
The World Series guys are a totally different league. I could never be that good-- too much time to practice and reach that level. So I'm treating the game for what it is.
No different than GTA or Red Dead or Spiderman-- its exaggerated reality.Find peace with me, my friends!
Namaste...

I just threw a 35 pitch 1st inning with Lorenzen.
Guy had a good eye, but he was literally fouling off pitches in the opposite batting box.
I think he fouled off a pick off throw.
Does no one else see how contact swing kills online?
If you have a good eye, you can just foul off pitch after pitch, spoil pitches two feet off the plate, and eventually hit a gapper or even a home run.
Can someone else who played the game at any level back me up on how unrealistic this is?
Or, do the majority of you think it makes the game better?
Or, am u the only one not using the big red wiffle bat? -
@Dolenz_PSN said in Contact Swing has Ruined the Game:
It would not be a season of MLB the Show unless we get several posts complaining about how contact hitting and timing swings are ruining the game and giving people an unfair advantage.
Contact swing using zone...
-
I can handle a few curve balls in the dirt being fouled off, but hitting 450ft bombs with the big red wiffle bat?
How do I know?
Because I hit one in an 0-2 count with Michael Brantley.
Ridiculous.
Isn't contact swing supposed to reduce power by 60%?
Pre championship series games literally play like early Nintendo RBI Baseball.
This, in my opinion, is the worst version of the game I have ever played. -
Guys, I swear, I'm not the complaining type, but you don't come to Forums to talk about all the things you enjoy, right?
Anywho, watch any MLB game and I guarantee that about 80% of check swings (on appeal) are rung up as strikes.
MLB made a point of this years ago to speed the game up.Why is the reverse true in the game?
Plate discipline, right?
So at what % does a player have every check swing called a ball?
80%
75%A check swing in the bigs is almost always a strike.
Make it so in The Show ( not [censored] likely) -

Ugh. I think I'm going to take a few weeks off. I've finished 5 of the 6 divisions for TA3, I'm 3/4 through the current BR reward path, and finished the RS path (using all TA3 players).
And... I'm... burned out. I feel like Forest Gump after he ran across America 3 times... "I'm kinda tired... I think I'll go home now".
I've come to look at this year's edition as "work". I gave SDS the benefit of the doubt with the whole "set" thing, but I'm absolutely dreading going through sets 4, 5 and 6.
So, I'll take a break. I'll be back for sure, but I'm just not enjoying the game as much as I should.
Let me know where your heads are at this point in the cycle. Thanks!
'23 started out great, as in the first 2 weeks.
But online play is laughable.
I think the only way to complete sets, affinity, etc. is to literally play 24 hrs a day, have no job or life, and probably go insane.
I play one h2h game a day after work, hit the gym, maybe a conquest game, then play Watch Dogs:Legion till bed time.
Online play is too aggravating.
If anyone has time to complete everything, I question their life choices.
Like, go outside or read a book. -

I played someone today who was either blind or messing around. He literally swung at every pitch I threw.
So starting in the 2nd inning, I threw every pitch in the dirt (bouncing) or 2ft above his head.
I won 5-0 (he was a decent pitcher), but here are the results...-16 K's
-32 balls in the dirt fouled off.
-1 single on a slider to Donaldson in the left handed batters box.
-1 bunt single on a fastball in the dirt.
-1 ball to the warning track on a fastball up and in and well off the plate, head level.Do I need to explain my point?
These results are nothing short of silly.
The debate should be, which baseball game feels more realistic-- Mario Super Sluggers or The Show 23?I encourage you all to run this experiment as well, lest I be accused of shenanigans.
you know i read your subject header first and thought to myself "wow this thread is going to be absolute [censored]"
so i get into the thread, read your post, and besides how cringy it reads - i beg to ask of you good sir - what in gods name is wrong with you?
So, the point of my op was that contact swing can keep the worst players competitive.
And if I actually threw the fella strikes, he might have scored a few runs by accident.
The big red wiffle bat keeps everyone in the game! -

I'm looking at my team, and it's all set 2 and 3 players.
Why do I need to assign a wild card when my team, in theory, is already season 3 eligible?
Then I assign set 3 Adley Rutschman as my "wild card", and it puts Devin Williams in my bullpen for some reason.
Am I misunderstanding something?
Can someone help an older, confused brother out? -
My friend, we can list every legitimate issue with the game until we're blue in the face.
This is The Show 23.
Every year they promise "major changes" to online game play.
I'm still waiting.
This year was supposed to be more realistic defense. If anything, the defense is more insane this year-- 5ft diving stops then perfect strikes to 1st, outfielders covering 500ft to catch fly balls, defying the natural laws of physics. But here's the thing ..
NO ONE From SDS IS LISTENING!!!
So we all need to bite our tongue, and just accept the game for the absurdity that it is.. .
And I fall for it EVERY YEAR!!!
Probably will next year, too. -
So it looks like curve balls bouncing in the dirt, and pitches a foot off the plate are no problem to get to again this year.
Another issue SDS promises to fix every year, and then they don't.
More realistic fielding?
Nope. SS's tracking the ball into the parking lot, Adam Dunn running 350ft to make a diving catch, middle infielders diving, catching it clean, and throwing a tracer to 1st to get 99 speed guys out by 2 steps.Well, I'm joining 'em.
Started contact swinging, and it's a lot easier to hit bombs with the big red wiffle bat than the skinny yellow one.
SDS didn't fix ONE issue from last year.
Not one...
Copy and paste. -
I load my stadium to make a few adjustments, save it, then spend 2 hours trying to upload it.
No good.
And zero help from the administrators or devs from previous posts.
We buy these games and systems to have fun and enjoy ourselves.
... and crickets chirping in the help department . -
Before release, the games was advertised thusly....
- More realistic defense (middle infielders not diving 5ft to make a clean play, get up, set and throw elite runners out by 3 steps)
- Outfielders playing to their actual abilities (Kyle "Dumpy Pants" Schwarber not being able to track a ball 300 ft to his right to catch a ball tailing away)
- Fly balls reacting to Earth's gravity in a more timely matter. Put another way, the universal laws of physics being observed
- The notion of a single.
- "Stealing is back"
Of the five, stealing is back.
The other four have not only not happened, they've reverted back to '22.
It's the Show '22.Am I the only person who sees this?
It seems that those of you in the Forums rarely mention any of this. -
I thought my team was the only one that Chipper routinely kicked ground balls for, until he cost my most recent opponent a run that proved to be the winner.
Does Chipper stink for only myself and my poor opponent, or is this a thing?
He has diamond stats, but on his best day might have been silver caliber.
And considering the game has regressed to the point that every fielder is Ozzie Smith/Willie Mays, I find it unsettling. -
A few weeks ago, I asked for opinions on the ps5 vs ps4.
I bought the 5 last week, and all I can say is "Wow!"
What a difference. The game is beautiful, graphics are crisp, absolutely no lag or weird jumpiness.
To those who's opinions convinced me, my thanks.
I'm seeing the ball so much better, hitting and pitching well, etc.
Now, if they can somehow fix it so that every fly ball off the bat doesn't hang in the air for a half hour, I'll be happy. -
It's obvious that this year (once again) the game is going to be about HR's and power.
Great contact hitters are going to be unusable because any card with under 75 power is like hitting with a wiffle bat.
So how do you all build your team?I still like speed and high contact at the 1 and 2 hole (minimum 75 of course). Power guys 3-5.
One thing I didn't realize is that clutch is huge. What are the key attributes you guys look at to build your squad?
The game is really frustrating right now...
