Not sure what you’re smoking but it has fouled up your ability to think clearly and rationally about what you’re claiming that you have the ability to do. Have a good night in your alternate reality!!!

So I stumbled across this YouTube video of MLB pitches from a batter's POV and it made me realize, "This doesn't look that hard to hit." The pitches don't seem that fast, I think I could hit these.

I haven't played baseball since middle school, but I'm a young adult in pretty good physical condition. I believe I'm getting a hit in 20 ABs versus an average MLB pitcher and defense. I said this in a group chat and basically got flamed, but I'm pretty sure I'm right here.

You’re wrong. Especially if you haven’t played since middle school. Hell I played college ball and when I joined an adult league at 28 I needed cage work before I could touch 87. Once I did I was tearing their butts up, but without practice most people ain’t hitting even 75. I still throw 84 at my age, and I could hit 95 after some practice but you ain’t a doing it without practice.

At least we can agree baseball is one of the hardest sports to learn to succeed at.

I played ball through upper little league and then high school , all star teams you name it. Tim Wakefield use to come and mess around with our church softball team. I tried to hit a baseball off of him. Forget it. Was embarrassing. There is a reason I stopped playing in high school lol

What are you saying here exactly? That you can make contact? Put a ball in play? Or actually get a hit against a professional pitcher with a defense behind him?

I am talking about the worst hitter EVER in the MLB. In all likelihood I am a better hitter than him.

That is literally the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard on these forums. And I have seen a lot. On my momma I bet you arent better than the worst DIv 1 College hitter ever. Much less any other pro baseball, including minors, overseas in whatever Country, and dang sure not the Majors.

If you are talking about just getting a fastball over and over, sure, you may make good contact a couple times, might even get one fair and squeak by for a hit. But if it is a pitcher that can actually pitch to you and try to get you out? No chance.

You’re wrong. I hadn’t played baseball since high school and joined an adult league at age 27. I had to relearn just about everything. Fielding came back relatively quickly.. hitting is a whole different story. If you haven’t even seen high school pitching, I doubt you even touch a single pitch. Have you even used a wood bat?

Watch the video, it doesn't look too fast, if I get 20 ABs I can just sit fastball and take a swing in the zone, that's probably 100 pitches so statistically I should connect with one and find a hole

I faced 90+ 1 time playing legion ball and I made a fool of myself and when I somehow hit the ball I jammed my hands so bad I had catchers thumb for a week only to ground out to second on a ball that maybe went 40mph off the bat. There’s no way you could get a hit. Yes you could make contact but with a wood bat you’re more likely than likely going to break the bat if you’ve never used one. Also the worst mlb player of all time is 10 times better than anyone who never made the show

Yeah this is just wrong, the worst pro hitter ever isn’t ten times better than me. Oftentimes, bad pitchers will go up there and take three pitches. I’m at least swinging every AB, increasing my chances of a hit, did you also have 20 ABs to adjust?

I’m going to be honest here I played competitive and travel baseball since tee ball and I swear on my heart I would never get a hit off of 90+. And the 10 times thing dude come on now that’s like you’re saying you’d be better than the worst kicker in the nfl who had only 1 field goal attempt cause you can kick a college PAT. Dude still had to beat out millions of people to get there makes no sense. It’s like saying Alabama would beat the jets or jags on a game sure Bama has a ton of talented players but the ones on the jets or jags are still way stronger and faster and just isn’t going to happen

Exactly I've been a top prospect once in Canada and trust me baseball here was like a joke back in the days... Just to imagine going in like the low A made me shnit myself !!! I've been to Florida for a scout Holly hell it was like a dream but an unrealistic one !

Yessir agree completely. There’s always going to be a bigger fish. I was a catcher and let me say I’ve caught a lot of good pitchers 85+ and is hard to catch let alone hit. Maybe if he goes behind the dish and doesn’t break his hamate from catching it wrong maybe he will see how hard it is to hit

You're now my brother in "knees" ! I was a catcher too it's tough enough to block a slider in the dirt imagine hitting one. Or just when the pitcher miss your sign and he throw you a high fastball when you think low change ( oh never mind it was just a bad ref behind the plate hahaha )

confused as in your definition of hit the ball, as in I made contact and hit it, or I got a hit. sure if you have your bat propped in the middle and pay the pticher to throw at it yeah youll hit it. otherwise if youre swinging based on your middle school self and a youtube video, can I makee a bet on you not contacting the ball going 92 plus. I played division one baseball and im not confidently stepping into any at bat years ( a few) later at anything above 85.

I remember our coach setting the pitching machine on an MLB level curve. Knees buckled 5 pitches in a row and I knew it was dropping in for a strike each time. It always looked like it was coming at my head!
You say it doesnt look hard and then say oh if i just randomly swing i might hit 1 in 100.....that would make it pretty difficult sorry

A high school freshman Josh Hader struck me out when I was a senior. He was unhittable in high school.

OP, you'd get smoked. Ive seen too many good batters go into deep slumps. That's guys who see this type of pitching on the daily. The number 4 prospect in baseball, since call up, can't even much get it going. You think you could hold your own? Think again. Youd be lucky if a pitcher didn't try some chin music while he laughs as you pi** all over yourself.

Watch the video, it doesn't look too fast, if I get 20 ABs I can just sit fastball and take a swing in the zone, that's probably 100 pitches so statistically I should connect with one and find a hole I feel like.

Bro... It’s a lot harder than you think haha. I don’t think you’d get a hit in 20 ABs against a Single A pitcher. Unless you played high level baseball into your 20s, you aren’t touching a thing without a ton of training and practice.

The worst hitting pitcher ever had about a .045 OBP in the MLB. Most pitcher only players still take BP and stuff so that’s not surprising, but that goes out the window since this is the worst hitting pitcher ever, in all likelihood, I can hit better than the worst hitting pitcher ever, and being an 18 yo male with a decent build, I think I could.

I think you’re underestimating how difficult it is to hit a baseball. Especially live pitching. And then you’re going to do this against someone who has trained their whole life to play baseball professionally and was good enough to make it into the MLB? Not to mention the highest level of ball you’ve played is middle school? Come on dude haha. Do you have any idea how good you have to be to even sniff the Majors?

I am talking about the worst hitter EVER in the MLB. In all likelihood I am a better hitter than him. It’s nothing against the pitchers, but they aren’t untouchable, in 20 ABs you could probably guess and swing early to find a hole somewhere in there.

Lol you must be tripping, even the best hitters ever have had slumps where they go 0-20.

@kdclemson_psn said in I could get a hit off of an MLB pitcher:

I feel like the sheer number of ABs and pitches are on my side, each AB will likely be at least 3 pitches (unless I get a hit). That’s a minimum of 60 pitches without any takes on balls, any walks, or any fouls. Say I can get 2 balls on most ABs or 1 foul 1 ball, already 100 pitches.

In 100 pitches I can guess and have a decent chance at a hit, or I could adjust as it progresses.

At a certain point I feel like statistics is on my side.

Orioles Chris Davis says you’re wrong.

This entire thread is a big ol' LOL.

    Who cares?

I guess it beats the posts about unanswered tickets, R2, Cronus Zen and Mickey Calloway.
