Conquest

Conquest has become a staple mode of DD since it was introduced. I still remember how thrilled I was to actually figure out how to sim games and only play stronghold games and steal fan games.
Fortunately, the steal fan games are generally not mandatory anymore, which is great IMO.
One thing that has continually gotten worse over the years is the stinginess of cpu pitchers and the general cpu defensive excellence.
I understand fully the need for challenging the player, but it has reached the stage where the cpu generally pitches pretty much like the meta in online modes.
What is the fun of building an ultimate team of legends and current stars when the game makes the LS Detroit Tigers equal opponents?
I don’t want to work the count against bronze or common relievers vs cpu.
There has to be a better way. Maybe this mode needs to be revisited. Hell. Make the stronghold games against iconic players from that team’s history or something if the games need to be close.
Asking us to grind out at bats against LS no-name pitchers to get on base and turn the momentum requires a major suspension of disbelief.

Wait until you lose a SIM where cpu has 7 fans and you have 22 fans.
-
Honestly … Conquest is more of a grind than it is challenging cpu-wise. Lower the difficulty, that should help … I mostly play Veteran CPU grind, which is fairly easy

Nobody ever seems to talks about the times you SIM with a 22 to 7 advantage and they lose all 7 fans while you lose 1 or 2.
As for the difficulty I have actually been doing better of late, but I play on veteran.
Last 10 games: 64 runs, 86 hits
CPU last 10 : 1 run, 3 hits. -
@YOSHI24
The difficulty isn’t so much a problem.These are just observations. Years ago, the cpu pitchers threw a lot of hittable pitches in the zone. Now you can walk four times in three innings on veteran.
I want the gameplay to be more transparent and not feel so forced, just so the box score seems somewhat realistic.
I know, not gonna happen.
-
Has difficulty ever changed how CPU pitchers pitched? I know that lowering the difficulty makes the batter's PCI bigger and slows down the pitch speeds but I am not sure it ever actually made it so pitchers grooved the ball more often.
-
I would say yes, it did. It has been a steady shift away from that, IMO. It may have had to do with the increased importance of pitcher confidence and other variables.
Things really started to get weird when over 100 attributes were introduced which, if I’m not mistaken, was in 2018 with the “immortal” cards.
-
In my 3-year observation: Lower difficulty leads to more balls in the (middle of the) zone. I am master in beating up the Rockies on Rookie at Costco … lots of times, you get meat balls … but some batters, the pitcher will only throw junk

This. They need to go back to the old attributes. And they also need to go back to the old rating system where a Diamond was 90 and above. Plus back to old QS format where any Silver is worth 100 stuns QS etc.

We really made a thread complaining about the pitching in conquest?
-
@kcartledge
You are free to not participate in the thread!
There’s not a lot of activity with the game at this point of the year, and this, imo, is one of the reasons why.Obviously, if you are enjoying playing conquest the way it is, then this thread is maybe not for you?
-
You‘re right but I am enjoying conquest as it is … imo hasn‘t changed in 3 years
-
@halfbutt I just dont understand what you want to see. It sounds like you want to score 7 runs on 10 hits, and the 3 innings take 10 minutes or less.
That just wouldnt be realistic baseball.
-
It changed 3 or 4 years ago. On rookie, it used to be grooved balls down the middle the majority of the time. I would just never stop running to get out on purpose to end innings a lot of the time. Now, most games are 3 runs or less and cpu pitchers are mostly on the black. Still very easy as the computer still can't hit but the pitching has very much changed.

Did Coors sell the naming rights?

@kcartledge
I’m mostly happy with the outcomes of my games, but I don’t find them “realistic baseball” at all, to borrow your words.I find the gameplay feels very forced. The premise of the mode is not at all “realistic”, which is fine. We all love the fun of building a god squad of top tier current stars and legends of the past. Unfortunately, after we build our fantasy teams, we learn that they are no better against the cpu than a LS team.
Now, I understand why the game challenges us, but if “realistic baseball” is the goal, Conquest needs to give us a more believable scenario. It can’t just elevate the play of bronze type cards to equal 99 diamonds.
My .02 cents

I do not understand that. A team full of diamonds fares better against the CPU most of the time. If not, than it is me being impatient. To be honest:I think you‘re trying to force an issue, but nobody understands it
-
@YOSHI24
Sure, a team full of diamonds fares better most of the time. My point is, if we are looking for “realistic”, that’s a pretty huge compromise.Many video games understand the super power fantasy and appeal to that. I’m thinking of like Destiny or Ghost of Tsushima for example. Obviously, enemies are scaled to challenge the gamer appropriately, but there is generally a payoff.
For me, beating the cpu Detroit Tigers 2-0 in extras because your three hard hit balls in the first inning made outs (hello pitcher confidence) is very underwhelming in that regard. Fine if you’re playing with the LS Guardians, not so much with your god squad.
Now am I trying to push an agenda? No, I’m just expressing my experience of playing this game since 2015 or so, and how I think it could be better. That’s it.

Yeah but you can't play conquest games in a created stadium because all the games are on the road
