Your MVP, Cy Young, Reliever of the Year
-
The game cycle is over as we hold our breath for '23.
So it's a good time to hand out our individual awards.
Please base awards on a minimum of, say, 200 plate appearances, 15 starts, and at least 15-20 innings for relievers. My MVP: For the 5th consecutive year is Kenny Lofton. Hit .300 for the 5th time, 50 stolen bases, a ton of runs, and able to cover the Grand Canyon in CF.
Cy Young: I used Kerry Wood all year and he squeezes by Nolan Ryan for me as my Cy Young. 8-2 with a sub 2.00 ERA. Led team in QS's.
Reliever of the Year: Tough call because my pen is a revolving door, but 99 Finest Chapman was my most reliable closer in years. No blown saves.
Honorable Mention: Goose Gosssage.Surprise of the Year: Al Kaline. They finally gave him a card worthy of his greatness. 125/125 vs lefties and a stud outfielder in RF next to Lofton. He and Lofton were my only parallel 5 position players.
Disappointment of the Year: For the 2nd year in a row, I allowed Adley Rutchman's great offensive numbers and switch hitting bat to use him as my #1 catcher.
Outstanding defense, but hung in the .230's all year. Again.
Great glove and hit 8th.You guys and girls?

Yeah, his swing is amazing. I loved Cano and Utley too but Morgan was my favorite.

Keep in mind that almost all of my games are played at the All-Star level. These favorites were a surprise to me, if I base these awards simply off of stats and not "feel".
SP: Online - Takashi Mussina
CP: Online - Breakout Andrew Miller
Position: Online - Finest McCutchen (I would have sworn I would have put a switch hitter here)SP: Offline - FotF Stroman
CP: Offline - Finest Chapman
Position: Offline - Takashi Foxx. The only player with over 100 ABs where I hit over .500. No one else comes close. I have no idea why, as I haven't hit well with him in past years. -
MVP....No doubt George Brett
Cy Young....Nolan Ryan
Closer....Billy Wagner
Surprises...99 Austin Riley-Card rakes
99 700 HR PujolsBiggest Disappointment....He is still at P5 but Willie Mays got shat on this year
-
Interesting topic.
Keep in mind almost all my games are offline and mix of Rookie, Veteran and some All Star when I need it for a mission. And when I P5 a player I pretty much put him away and try other cards.
MVP: Early-MA Devers Now-Takashi Griffey
Cy Young: Finest Zack Greinke though MA Zac Gallen was more dominant for me. I reached P5 with him so quickly he did not accumulate the stats compared to Greinke
Rolaids Relief: I could pick Finest Sutter or Takashi Wagner. They are just about a tie in stats as well as my feeling for who was most effectiveBiggest surprise. When I started the game, pretty early on I acquired a rather modest Topps Now 90 OVR Josh Rojas and back when I was still learning hitting I raked with him. It seemed like he hit a home run every swing; it was almost comical. I eventually put him away for MA Devers, but it killed me to do it. Looking back, I still don't know why he hit so well for me.
Biggest disappointment. Other than me not improving my hitting over the course of the year as much as I wanted, I would say it is the glut of amazing players at certain positions. Early on my best hitters were TN Rojas, MA Devers, and MA Austin Riley and they were all 3B so I had to be creative to keep them in my lineup. Now my outfield is so stacked with players I hit well with I cannot put all my best hitters in the lineup.

Great point about Mays.
You can make a very valid argument that he is the GOAT-- 600+ HR's, speed, great glove.
They finally did Kaline right.
Now give Mays his due. -
MVP: George Brett
Cy Young: Kershaw
Reliever: 90 Chapman (in my bullpen since day 1) -
1st half of Season (No 99's)
MVP: Rafael Devers FOTF
Cy Young: Randy Johnson Takashi
Special Mention Cy Young: Common Aaron Slegers with his small head and giant body. Best pitcher in moonshot events
Reliever: Topps Now Duran2nd Half
MVP: Hank Aaron (Most of stats were on Ranked Seasons on HOF or a couple game on Legend) Other players stats were inflated because of Events with many hitters batter .450 or higher.
Cy Young. Randy Johnson Milestone
Reliever: Finest DuranSurprise of the year:
Batting: FOTF Mitch Haniger and Finest Don Mattingly
Pitching: FOTF Casey Mize and Topps Now BumgarnerDisappointment:
Batting: I still can't hit with a Mookie Betts card....
Pitching: Finest Bob Gibson. I got his 90 card P5, but have his FInest card with a ERA above the 10's -
Mvp Foxx
Cy. Either randy version
Reliever. Surprisingly I would go with Joe Nathan. Didn’t expect much.Surprise Jose Ramirez. Normally don’t do much with his cards but this year has been a beast.
Disappointment probably trea turner. I usually do better with his cards.

After going back to Mini Seasons over the weekend I want to change my Biggest Disappointment. I was cruelly reminded of hearing Chris Singleton nonstop say "Man, that is one of those at bats where you have to reminded yourself it's about the process" is definitely the biggest disappointment in the game all year.
