1 run game, 1B was open, a lefty was on the mound, and a lefty was on deck. The move makes perfect baseball sense. Cabrera should’ve just gotten a hit earlier in the game lmao.
What happened after the IBB makes your argument pointless. For the sake of respect Miggy should've been allowed to try for a hit. Besides there were two outs anyway and he'd already struck out twice. It's called sportsmanship.
So now "sportsmanship" and "respect" take precedent over winning ballgames? When the yankees are fighting for a wild card spot this year needing every win possible, are they gonna look back and go "well atleast we gave Cabrera an attempt at 3,000, that's all that matters".
And people wonder why no one respects baseball anymore.
Everyone had a problem when they walked Jeter before his 3,000th. If it was wrong to do that to Jeter then it's wrong to do that to Miggy.
Coming from a huge Yankee fan and I can speak on behalf of over a dozen people in my circle who are about as die-hard as it gets....no one thought it was "wrong". Disappointed? Yes. "Wrong"? No. Baseball is still baseball.
My god. What a genuine crock.
I've lived in NYC or Hoboken for 49 years. Yankees fans were crying, cursing and behaving like it was THEY who got IBB, HBP and caught looking all in the same at bat.
Yankee fans should shut it, wear it and move on.
Well, similar to this forum....you have fans who are realists and truly understand the game, and you have your babies who have nothing better to do than [censored] and moan.
All of the Yankee fans in my circle played baseball our entire lives. Some until college, some through college and some as high as AA. Fair to say we have a little bit different perspective on things than your typical NY crybaby, so no its not a "crock" you were just surrounded by idiots.
Keep pumping up your resume. You know nothing about me or anyone else's pedigree with the sport. Hahaha. I'm so glad you feel inclined to provide information that means nothing on a forum.
Good day to you son. Enjoy your blinders.
Then again, I should watch what I say because apparently you report everything.
Best of luck!

I am not a Yankees fan but given the game situation as described earlier in this thread it seemed like a good move to try and win the game. Miggy even said this before the game.
“I know history is very important,” Cabrera said before the game, “but we need to win first. It's not about me. It's about the team.”
If it had been a blowout and they did this I could understand the anger but in this case with a runner on 2nd and first base open in a one run game the move makes sense, regardless of whether it worked out or not.

It would've made more since if they did it with less than two outs. They walked him on TWO outs. It just makes the whole thing stink.

The Yankees got MLB The Showed 22
The Tigers got showed 22. The moment is get a hit in one ab and win the game. The cpu pitcher throws you no pitches over the plate. Walks you. Moment failed.

I could be mad at Roberts for pulling Kershaw when he had a perfect game going against MIN but the dodger won the game and do not need any injury to Kershaw. It is not about Accolades but is about winning. We fans may not like it but winning should be first.

Sportsmanship are you serious ---its called you're a Manager of Major League Team you do what's best for your team - you're making it sound like that was his last at bat for the season. I know Detroit doesn't have much to look forward to but seriously it was the right move.
"Right" move or not, it was a [expletive] move and the world knows it, except you apparently.
Ha. The world knows it? Even the majority of the people in this thread doesn't agree with it.
-
Baseball move, even if Miggy is pedestrian now.
The worst I've seen is the 1993 AS Game in Baltimore where Cito Gaston (huge a**hole) put his own closer in a 9-3 game instead of Moose.

I’m a tigers and huge miggy fan but I would’ve done the same thing as Boone to try and win
-
Thursday day game. Lots of kids there because they're off from school. As fans, it's ridiculously disappointing. Could he have gotten the hit earlier? Yeah. I'm sure there were scoring decisions during the previous 2999 hits as well.
The FANS in person on a sunny day game were let down by Boone not pitching to Miggy. Even trying to pitch around him would have shown some brass.
I'm mad as a fan of the sport. My kids are off too, and tuned in on this as well. Sure you can watch it on YouTube in a few days whenever he gets it. Not quite the same.
I'm done here. I apologize for caring. I'm certainly not a Boone fan, but we'll see what gets said by him, Miggy, MLB Network etc.
-
Kind of related, but in an RTTS I was doing in MLBTS20, Miggy retired on 2999 hits and 497 homers:

Now that’s a cheap move

It was an at-bat where he could have gotten his 3,000 hit. A major milestone that not a lot of players reach. And we actually do have a lot to look forward to, including shutting you out of the postseason again. "Right" move or not, it was a [expletive] move and the world knows it, except you apparently.
wrong...what if the Texas leaguer ended up an out and the yankees won 2-1....it was the right call. Ask yourself, would have wanted Barry Bonds to try for number 756 when it was a 1 run game and an open base bc "sportsmanship"? no...and I know he was roided out but still, same concept.
-
Miggy went 0-3. He got a chance. Just because you want him to get 3000 today doesn’t mean Boone or the Yankees had it out for the guy. Late in the game you make tough decisions to win the game or put your team in a better situation.
Now if Boone worked around Miggy or intentionally walked him in the beginning of the game then you’d have a case.
This is udder lunacy. This ain’t the last AB of Miggys career. He’ll get it.

Uhh no he shouldn’t be allowed. Are you serious? He’s not above the sport. Yankees were trying to make a baseball move and win the game. That’s like saying an NFL team should punt the ball back to Tom Brady so he can have a chance to at a TD pass milestone. You must be apart of the participation trophy era.

Why should Boone care about what Tigers fans think? Why should anyone other than the Tigers care what Tigers fans think? If you actually were a fan of the sport, you’d applaud Boone for making the correct managerial call and not pandering to fans and going against the best interests of his team.

I am not. Are you trying to be a troll by saying that? Cute. I'm not saying it was illegal for Boone to do that, but it was terrible of him to do that. By the way an entire stadium in Detroit disagrees with you.
