Video game companies monopolizing sport games

It seems like every year rather it's 2k with NBA, EA with Madden, or SDS with MLB. We get the same boring experiences with zero creatively, poor effort & copy/paste.
The ps3 mlb the show games were so good bc 2k made mlb games they had to make good games to survive. Now the get to coast along making boring games bc the lack of competition.
Same for 2k & EA.
I miss the days when we had options. When 2k made mlb & nfl games. Those were amazing. Especially 2k5.
Its always funny to go back and few decades ago and see how many different sports games there was lol. Now it's only 3.
You'd think more companies would want to cash in. Instead we are left with boring games.

The 2K MLB games were some of the worst sports games ever made. But this is an MLB deal with how they do their licensing. I'm sure their are other companies that want to make sports games but can't get licensing they need from leagues.

@RealMessiah_XBL 2k gave up in the last couple but early on 2k was awesome! We played 2k6 all the time on ps2!!

Is there an exclusivity deal though or have the other companies just given up?
People have been complaining about this for years, even in years that RBI Baseball was still being released. Now, RBI was not a serious competitor but it still had a license from MLB.
So, is it an exclusivity deal or is it simply a case where the license costs are so high that being the second or third best selling MLB game (or NFL, NBA, etc) is not worth the effort?

@Weshill627_PSN 2K was not good. Sorry. MVP baseball was the best game. Too bad EA got out of the game. Here is the best part, you dont have to play. you have that option too.

Madden is the only game with an exclusivity agreement. Everyone has been welcome to make NBA and MLB games for several years; they just choose not to because they want to see immediate success to boost stocks, which isn't very practical for new intellectual properties.
Unfortunately, money is all these companies care about now. Every game they make, and unfortunately, what they choose not to make, is always purely a money-driven decision. So, unless an independent company with money to burn shows up, we are stuck with these sports games.

Unfortunately, the USITC does not consider the "types" of video games (sports, fps, rpg, etc.) a distinct market, outside of the "video game market". I empathize with your concern, but as long as their are multiple video game companies competing against each other, we will continue to see this. While in essence, having exclusive rights to a MLB baseball game could be considered a monopoly, in economic trade, it is not. ...I.E. You may not like Target, but the Twins franchise has the right to sell their exclusive stadium naming rights to Target, if it wants. -

no they were not. 2k baseball games on 360 were incredible. one of the most fun I've had were those games. they had pinpoint pitching 15 years ago which SDS eventually copied.

MVP baseball was good but that' doesn't make the 2K games bad. it sounds like you never played them or gave them a fair chance. or they were not simple enough for you to understand.
High Heat series was on par with MVP. HH2003 and MVP2005 were the best.

We can spend all day naming great baseball games. Too bad those don't exist any more. Point is, I want options and they are not available

SDS deal with MLB is the same as EA's with NHL: It's not an exclusive license.
2k withdrew from NFL, MLB, and NHL because they knew the NBA was their money-maker and they didn't have the resources to throw at the others way EA did.
That being said, The Show was amazing when they had healthy competition, the same with the NHL and EA.

@RealMessiah_XBL I completely disagree with you. The 2k games were good games. And a lot of what the show uses was taken from them. A la "Pinpoint pitching" That was in 2k11 when did it get to the show? lol

MVP Baseball 1997 was the best …
… But I want to get back to the argument side: I play baseball videogames for the last 40 years … sometimes we should look back and take a close look to what we are comparing this game with … Yes, you can argue about the economic side of the game … stubs, yearly release … But we got an awesome game on our handTherefore I got a big tip: You can play each years version for years! Yes, the rosters will not upgrade but I did not have that in 1997 and neither on the early baseball game for the Commodore 64 (my first one) … So maybe take a real look in the back mirror, if you really want to complain. As good as MVP Baseball was, I would never go back to my Gamecube to play it

@YOSHI24_XBL I went back and was playing MVP 04 (the one I had and am nostalgic for, sorry 05 fans) on a PS2 emulator. It was insane how fast I had to swing to make contact lol. Because of the graphical limitations at the time it felt like the pitcher was right on top of you.
