How do you honestly feel about this year?
-
I saw from the beginning the potential drawbacks of Sets and Seasons and almost all of them have come to pass. From making us buy/grind for multiple best versions of the same player so that they are eligible in the current season to having to use lesser versions of players as you go deeper into the season.
Team based theme teams seem to be getting weaker with every new season.
I enjoyed the ride up to a point but have barely played in August and will probably play less in Sept.

Coming from me this might sound weird, EA does one thing right. Start at a lower Ovr, and work up more slowly. First 99 being the WS MVP. No 90s to start Live series. First non collection 90+ in first program. Pretty much all 99s by Dec/Jan. Set restrictions hasn't worked. It's time to try something else. Put all cards in standard packs, people will buy if there is a chance they will get the current top card in the game and a guaranteed Diamond. All current programs can still be used. Just don't go overboard or use multiple currencies.

Some good, some bad. Just like any year.
Lots of 99s, but I already spent over $100 on the game. Cant' keep most of them if I want to complete the collections.
Great game additions. The entire NBL is awesome. Jeter is better than I thought he'd be. Still some glaring absences, but SDS can't control the families of the deceased. It sure would be nice to have Cobb, Williams, and Yaz though.
MTO has been great. Still need choices for callups and fast tracks, and trades are laughable. Otherwise, best offline mode to me.
All in all, a mediocre installment. Looking forward to when they stop supporting PS4 and Xbox One for new installments. Switch will still bring it down, but until Nintendo puts out a worthy console, online will always be lacking some.
I forgot about the NBL. Those 99's were/are nice.
I disagree with MTO, only because it seems they don't want you to win with the cheating I've seen.
And forget those 'Finish the no-hitter' scenarios. I beat it once in 3-4 years, and only did MTO to get the Trophy/Achievements.
I wouldn't say mediocre, just an off Trea Turner like year for SDS. Sorry Philly fans -

NBL was definitely the big win this year.
Good points

I like the captain stuff although I barely use it
Hitting wise. PP are not very rewarding on the most part but it does seem to reward better swings than previous games. Last year I seem to remember much more flukes.
Pitching is horrible. PAR means nothing. You get the occasional pitch down the middle for no reason.
Content is boring and the best cards are hidden behind 20 hour grinds or a paywall.
I don’t like the sets. Most people end up having the same team. Already.
I give gameplay this year 7/10. Content 5/10.
-
To summarize my year:
Launch - end of April, had a blast. Great content, great gameplay. Still knew sets would ruin it all but I got my $70 worth.
May - end of June. Starting to die. Content was slow, only cards in programs were 92-97s. The thing holding this game up was how great Set 1 was and that they were still usable.
June - July. They seemed to focus on TA 3 and All Star content. Extreme was the most fun I’ve had with it before. Great time for content. Downside was this was the peak of everyone abusing the stamina glitch.
Once the excitement of Extreme wore off. The game died for me. Content was a slow crawl, programs require buying cards again, went a couple of weeks with barely anything except new Diamond Duos.
Unfortunately that’s it for me. I don’t see myself getting back into MLB again this year. The content structure was awful, sets/seasons need to be gone or I 100% won’t be buying 24. Hopefully they learned their lesson.

These last 2 posts sum it up pretty good. I would give gameplay about a 4 due to connections/servers. Pretty on par with 18 for me as far as product.
-
So for me i don't like the new content format, not a fan of expiring cards and doing mass collection fodder to get a 99 card vs 99s in high value packs. S3 was pretty much ruined by Stamina glitch and set 1 glitch and they let it go unchecked for so long without even a oops my bad sorry guys from SDS. I've done the surveys, so they have my opinion.
Things i do like are the POTM Programs, how ya able to to em in a day, and field a usable team ie the Ohtani POTM was a really good one.
Gameplay seems alright as well, I haven't had many issues with lag at all total of 2 freeze up since launch of the game.
-
Not at all a fan of sets/seasons or high diamonds everywhere at launch. I much prefer the old, slower team building progression. The older model would have made captains a fantastic addition but instead they're mostly just...there.
Also, 2 week content gaps in an 8 week season are inexcusable.
POTM remains the best program. Most of the other programs were much grindier and felt like busy work. The retired number program in particular is awful. Do all the program steps and still come up short? Get that **** outta here.

I like sets. Enjoy not seeing the same cards from start to finish. I like there are more collections than the past because card collecting was my favorite. I think hitting is as easy as it has been since I’ve played online (or I have just gotten better). I also like that it’s harder to collect all the cards. More stuff for me to do at end of the game instead of having 20 mil stubs. The amount of different cards can be overwhelming though

I haven’t played the show much this year because life hasn’t allowed as much time as I’d like for video games. I haven’t been active on the forums much either. When I have had time I find myself playing Hogwarts and some other games I wouldn’t even have installed during baseball season. I have been really underwhelmed with content this year overall. I liked the seasons idea but execution has been subpar because of the watered down cards and so many of the same players with similar attributes. I know this will be an unpopular opinion but I miss the truly elite cards. I don’t want immortals back with the stupid exchanges but it makes sense to have 5-10 cards be the best at that position. And for the love of god bring back the topps card art. I can’t stand the kaiju and number retired and all star card art at this point.
I want to see if I’m just out of the loop here or if my opinions are shared. I’ve thought about doing some of the surveys but they turn into 10 min processes.
least amount i have played since 2017 - i hope everyone is having a blast with it - that is how im feeling about it

Gameplay: 6/10
Hitting was better, but p/p outs still seem too high. Pitching was worse. It’s like a dice roll with every 4th pitch going wherever. Pitching in general needs a complete overhaul. When you are forced to give pitchers outlier and sinkers just to make them usable you have a problem. Waaaay too many glitches and exploits that took months to fix.Content: 3/10
Expiring cards is cancer in a game focused on collecting cards. Day 1 99’s ruined any sense of team building and progression. Grinding ~5 hours in August to complete a program and not a single card makes your lineup is horrible. The most exciting thing all year was Easter egg hunt and Extreme. Every other program is a copy/paste. Making every program card non sellable is EA levels of criminal. Forcing people to buy cards/packs to complete a program is also EA. Dumping a “set” and then disappearing for several weeks and using “weekly wonders” as content was terrible.Captains: 4/10
Awesome idea ruined by expiring cards and day 1 99s. Last year this would be an easy 10/10.Overall: 4/10
I stopped playing 2 weeks ago and have no intention of starting again. I’ve played DD since ‘17 and this is the earliest I’ve quit. Without a progression/power creep I have no interest in grinding for collection fodder anymore. -
Eh, It's an average game, I enjoy playing it most of the time. Still not sure how I feel about these sets, and captains really didn't work with the Sets.
-
As previously stated, I still hate expiring cards.
Other than that, it's ok. -
I find myself dreading the next 3 sets. While I did want more content, the copy and paste approach to the affinity seasons is boring to me. I would be okay with a first and second half TA, but I'm already over it after 3.
-
I happen to think this years game is the best it’s ever been. However with that being said, I’ve played less this year than any other. I finished TA1. It was such a long grind it kinda burnt me out a bit. I also just don’t have the time I once had. I’d rather spend time outside during the summer. I still think it’s cool but it’s not as fun as it once was for me.

I play offline so I generally just want an immersive experience but this year it has been tough. You have play-by-play commentary that is the exact opposite of what is happening. I've had games where the announcers said a CPU player hit a homer in his first at-bat when I'm throwing a shutout. Other times the announcers say a player who homered in his first at-bat struck out. Moments start in the 3rd inning and the pitcher (a starter) has a pitch count of 0. "Billy the Kid" is apparently in his third season despite the fact that the card represents his age 33 (11th) season. The limited usage window for most cards doesn't help either. Has anyone else noticed times between innings where their pitcher walks towards the opposite dugout than the rest of the team?
All that said I like the new collections for each season. Collections are my end goal so it keeps me working towards something. And Storylines was a great addition.

Being a baseball fan, and the only game I play, I love it! I don’t mess with the toxicity of ranked, I enjoy offline grinding and playing games against friends.. No complaints here ️
