While it was a disappointment this one is much different than past blown leads. The Mets stumbled a bit this last month but overall had a great season, the Braves just played out of their minds for the last few months.

    Season starts again Friday

Nope we not doing this. If you take a look at the Braves record the Mets did not "collapse". Braves just over took them... and if Mets win one more game than the Braves head-to-head then the Mets win the Division but Braves swept in Atlanta to win the season series 10-9. No worries... Mets get Padres, Dodgers and then most likely Braves and Yankees to cap off an amazin season with an amazin run through the postseason.

Go Pads! Not gonna be easy though, the Mets are good. We're gonna have to face Scherzer and Degrom and with our struggles at times to score runs those 2 guys will be tough. We've got some good starters too that we'll be running out there so this should be a good, fun series. We got a shot though for sure and I'm definitely looking forward to it!

No collapse this year. They played really well all season and won 100 games. Only issue for them was they stumbled a bit in September against a couple of inferior teams and the Braves were literally the best team in MLB since June.

The biggest factor about having to play the 2/3 Wild Card bracket though is that even if you do win that series you may only have your top pitcher for one start in the next round.

It wasn't so much that the Mets collapsed, it's more that the Braves started the year off slowly and then hit the gas and never took their foot off.

    That's why we play 162.

This OP is waaaaaaaaay off. The Mets didn't "collapse". Atlanta took over after they called up MHIII and promoted Strider to the starting rotation and they dominated the entire MLB from that point on. New York suffered from several missed starts by their best 2 pitchers due to injury. Atlanta has so many weapons in their lineup from top to bottom. They are at the top of the league in every major stat category production wise from the 7-9 hitters stat bracket. They have 3 legit aces in Fried, Wright and Strider with Wright being the MLB only 20 game winner. Atlanta just straight up took the division title. The Mets did not squander or blow it at all.

I would like to congratulate the New York Muts for once again blowing a seemingly insurmountable division lead in September.
Lucky for them, baseball is turning into hockey and any team with a pulse makes the playoffs (including my Phillies, who are horrible and have no business being there either).

    To recap...

2007: Mets hold 7 1/2 game lead with 17 to play. They blow the lead and the glorious Phillies win the division on the last day.
Tom Glavine, who didn't want to play in Philly as a free agent in '06 ("I don't want to have to be a mentor to a bunch of young guys"), gets destroyed by a Little League lineup of Marlins in game 162 ( 2 IP, 7 runs)

2008: Same as above. Crumble to the Phils in the last 2 weeks. Phils win WS.

2022: Slowly, painfully, the Mets blow a double digit lead and give the division to the Braves.

Good Luck, Mets! Thank the baseball god's for your participation trophy.

(BTW, is sports the only place in society where we can bust each other without fear of cancellation?)

You do realize the Mets have been blowing the division lead to the Braves since the Mid 90s? This isn't new territory.

Mets have the 4th best record in baseball and the Braves #3… that’s a collapse?

When you blow a double digit lead in September, it's a collapse.
    Sorry, Mets fans.
After the Padres finish them off, y'all can go back to being Yankees fans until the next time the Mets are decent.

By some of your reasoning, '07 wasn't a collapse either because the Phils played out of their heads.

There are over 20 other teams in MLB who would love to "collapse" their way to 100 wins and a wild card spot.

If I remember correctly the Mets played like absolute trash at the end of that year. They had 2 bad series against bad teams last month which screwed them and then got swept by the Braves to seal the deal. They won 100 games and the Braves have been the best team in baseball now for months. The fact that it took the Braves until the second to last game to win the division even with the tear they were on proves that it wasn’t a collapse.

A few counter points to your claim that the Mets blew the lead.

    1. Mets still won 101 (assuming they win today's game as they are up 9-2) games, which is a great season, Second most in their franchise.
    2. The Braves record since June 1 is 78-33 which is amazing.
    3. The Mets were 66-44 over that same stretch which is a +22, not bad at all.

Mets made the playoffs in a division with Atlanta, the team that may be the best in the all of baseball. They have Degrom, Scherzer, Carrasco, and a decent bullpen. Thay have a real shot. CONGRATS ro the Mets

I agree with you, man. They still won 100 games. People really like to talk bad of other teams, but for what?
A real congratulations on a great season.
