Why did they downgrade Turner and Soto so fast?
-
Dante Bichette was a huge HR & RBI Machine Monster when he played. But he hit very low for average, strike out more then the league average & his fielding was horrible & his base running was a nightmare. I'm not saying Soto & Turner are like him. All I am saying that there is a lot of different things that goes into how & why a card goes up or down in overall rank & with attributes.
Go to YouTube & see these MLBTS streamers talking about Gold to Diamond or Sliver to Gold upgrades. They get it right about 50% of the time with thier picks However how & why they say a player will be upgraded or downgraded is what you need to hear. They break it down with the players real MLB stats within certian catagories that will effect & influence their upgrade/downgrade. This is what you need to hear & see to get better insight on this.

Stats matter, but I do feel like WAR has the most impact on what they do. I don’t know about Soto. But I do remember looking up where Trea was and at that time he was just outside of the top 80. As of today, he’s not even in the top 150 for WAR. Also just the 9th best on the Dodgers. It seems like they’re upgrading more based on the “year” and not “years”.

You're not wrong about overall ratings, but you're completely missing the point. The hitting attributes were lowered. That has nothing to do with fielding.

Real Life Hitting Success is not only what contributes to a players card going up or down. Fielding has a big play into it & as well other A-Stats such as with WAR
Do you even know what they did to their hitting stats after three weeks of play? Soto is like 70/70 against lefties and Turner is like 70/60 against righties. Your comment is literally pointless.
Took them a whole year of solid play to gain those attributes and they take them away after a few weeks? Soto is off to an OK start and Trea had like 20 rbi in the first month. Give me a FLIPPIN BREAK!
Not sure what RBIs has to do with contact and power stats?
Juans hitting .170 vs lefties so reduced contact makes sense.
Turner has hit over .300 for 4 years and is off to a slow start (for him) and only had like 4 xbh in the first few weeks so they dropped his contact and power a few points on each stat which unfortunately dropped his overall.I think the adjustments are an accurate reflection of what they are doing now and were required adjustments based on their release day attributes. SDS clearly thought they over ranked Juans lefty and Treas numbers and had to adjust.

Not sure what their numbers were before but for Soto, the drop against lefties makes sense. Soto is a career .279/.378/.486 vs. lefties ... this year ... .170/.291/.255. Massive drop.
Turner, career .295/.350/.484 vs. righties, this year hitting .253/.337/.373 vs. righties. A bit of a dip in average and pretty major drop in slugging. Turners Avg/OBP/SLG are all significantly down this year compared to the last three. A drop in his numbers makes sense.

Getting advice from a streamer on upgrades? And they have a 50% success rate? Lololololol. It's not rocket science when it comes to upgrades and downgrades.

I think attribute updates should be once a month and include things like speed and fielding as well. Instead of just making knee [censored] hitting upgrades and downgrades every other week. I miss how they weighted the years before. Now it seems like it’s heavily weighted to the current year and it’s just too hard to judge a player in such a small time frame.

They were downgraded after three weeks. Typing out a heavily worded response doesn’t automatically equate to a better argument. I don’t give a fk if Soto was batting zero after three weeks it’s too early for such a significant downgrade.

Yeah I’m sure guys that have been watching/playing baseball since they were eight years old need to hear some dipshit streamer’s opinion.
Most of the kids streaming probably can’t even bench press the bar.

Thanks for proving my point. They are both coming off of great years and have excellent career splits and yet they get significantly downgraded after three weeks?
It’s idiotic….

It's a double edged sword. Everybody wants their favorite players upgraded after several hot weeks to start the season but even those people complain when some of their other favorites get downgraded.
It is also a case where now we are saying that they came off great years so don't downgrade them so quickly and yet when someone had an awful year previously we want them to ignore those and just focus on this season.
Double Edged Sword

I am "NOT" taking thier advice on all of thier picks. I just like to see if the actually mention the cards I was already looking into myself. want to see what their take was on that card with how they break down current real life MLB stats for that player. I like how they pin point certain things that make sense.
Also them being 50% correct with their predictions is pretty good. Thats a .500 batting average. Can anyone in here really say that they are 100% correct all the time with their investment picks, or even 75% correct?
You are just trying to throw in a wise crack cheap shot at my post reply to get a laugh or a like from others. However you need to understand the context before commenting on something way off base to what was really said.

Many here might benefit from it though. How many times do we see posts saying some pitcher should be ranked higher because he has a good ERA, never realizing that ERA has no bearing at all on MLB The Show's pitcher ratings.

Totally agree. I like weighing the current season heavier as I like the cards to be a good representation on the player. But like OP said, three weeks shouldn’t erase 2-3 previous years. More accurate, but less often changes would be great. Every two weeks is such small sample size. But…
They are overdoing it just to get the hype and attention. All the customers playing and all the social media guys, YouTubers and Twitch. SDS is just trying to play into their hands to get more hype. I hate it. It’s also so they can say “look how many new diamonds we created.” Even if their choices are somewhat artificial.
