Crosley Field Scoreboard Robbing HR's !!!!
-
I have played at Crosely Field 1,000's of times over the years as the Visiting Team. I never choose that park for my own. I have played online & offline there as well. Seen 100's of HR's hit in that park. Mostly hit by me offline & mostly hit by others online. LOL
But just now I finished playing the Pinheads in Mini which uses Crosely Field as their home park. I hit a "Perfect" swing with Dawson & it hit like a foot or 2 below the top of the scoreboard in Left/Center Field & it was not counted as a HR. Instead it was like a ball hitting the Green Monster Wall at Fenway. I still made it to 2nd Base for a Double before the ball was fielded & thrown to 2B. However in "EVERY" Stadium (MLB, Classic, Minors or Spring) anything hit over the wall is a HR, regardless if it hits the scoreboard or not. This was 1st time I seen this happen. Not sure if it was a 1 time glitch tied to Crosely Field or if there at that park it is always like that.

From the web about crosely field:
"The scoreboard in left-center field was a major impediment to home-run hitting. At 55 ft (16.8 m) tall, and entirely in play (yellow lines appeared on walls many years later), many hits that would be home runs anywhere else became two-base hits, bouncing back to the outfielder. A sign to the right side of the clock at the very top of the scoreboard offered a free suit from a local tailor to any Reds player to hit the sign. Small consolation for a near miss on a home run."

As far as I remember the scoreboard there has always been in play.

Alexa, what are ground rules in baseball?

Same thing applies to that MLB THE SHOW sign on top of the wall in Griffith (or at least it did a few years ago). Thought I hit a walk off bomb and it hit the very top of that sign and was like a double instead.

I would love to see them put in some more of these old stadiums with weird configurations. This of Houston with Tahls hill or maybe the old Baker Bowl in Philly.
