You do realize that's a cop out way of thinking. So anytime someone says something dumb you can just say they were "bowing to the mob" but if they say something you like then they really mean it. Grow up dude -

First, I think you’re using the wrong word, slack means he’s essentially being given a break. I really think you mean flack.
Second, Manfred is horrible at his job. The sport is bleeding fans and revenue, his job is to grow both. His constant wishy washy, back and forth on gimmicky attempts to speed up the game is doing more harm than good. Also, he’s horrible about transparency. Everyone knew they messed with the baseballs, but he wouldn’t admit it until it was too obvious to deny. Same thing with “sticky stuff.”
Like him or not, Bauer called him out on it 2+ years ago and proved how beneficial the stuff is, he essentially told Manfred and the league he would win the Cy Young and he did. Again, Manfred waited too long to address the issue.
Lastly, the whole Astros fiasco was and still continues to be a sore spot with the league. He handled it horribly, both from a players standpoint, but more importantly, for the fans.
There’s just a few issues he’s managed poorly, this list could go on quite a while.
To be fair, analytics ruined the game, not the commissioner. I don’t blame team management for trying to get an edge, but efficiency is making the game stale: 3 true outcomes, shifts, launch angle and so on have made the games longer and less attractive to fans. Not to mention it’s hard to sell a slow game in the overactive and attention span divided era we live in. Can’t sell players that bat 4 times a game in 3+ hours like a point guard or a QB that have the ball every play.
30 years ago, entertainment was books and TV, and you were stuck with whatever 30 channels were putting on. Now you have what you want when you want, on demand. Baseball hardly fits in that world.

Not a cop out. It's the world we live in. Do I like it? Hell no. I can speak my mind because I am nobody. Others can't for fear of losing their jobs or money or what not.Sticky stuff = steroids issue. In hindsight , baseball acted too slowly because fans were loving the home run chase and revenue was rolling. Manfred is trying to get ahead of the problem this time. He is DOING HIS JOB. Protecting the game now and for the future regardless how people may think of him in the " moment "

Y'all gotta relax. Kieran created this thread, knowing it's a polarized topic. He enjoys himself at this moment when he sees people going at each other. Y'all forgot what trolls do?

Well, that’s obvious. But it’s nice to discuss this instead of conspiracy theories about pack odds and secret gameplay tuners

Yeah I guess. Although that is DD related and this isn't. But I hear ya, I'd prefer to see neither.

Manfred’s job is to grow profit for the owners period. As long as the owners are happy with their ROIs, they will keep him there. They dont care about the integrity of the game, being equitable with the players or giving value to the fans. What baseball needs is lose their anti trust exemption.

The many blunders of Manfred still don’t make him the worst in pro sports. I’d give that to Bettman. The only commissioner to cancel an entire season for a labour dispute and has had two more lockouts that I can remember. The game isn’t growing in popularity, franchises are being financially supported by the big clubs(Looking at you Arizona) and he continues to water down the league with new franchises. The NHL is also probably the worst league at marketing it’s stars. Ovechkin, Crosby, McDavid and Matthews as examples. None of them are really household names in the sports world like Brady, James, Trout etc. Now I realize part of that is on the players because they don’t market themselves well either.

It can get annoying; no doubt.

Hockey as a whole isn't a popular sport in America. NHL is a very very small portion of hockey globally. Overseas, Hockey is more popular and thus profitable.

Just realized the fundamental flaw in your argument after i responded. You said pro sports. You do realize pro sports is a global term right? Should of said USA Professional sports. Rugby and Soccer ( only really called Soccer in the states ) are the most popular sports globally.

See? I can nitpick small details too!

So are we just supposed to not discuss polarizing topics? I personally think it’s better to have a conversation and find common ground

May have teams based in other countries, but they are incorporated as USA organization. Its why non USA teams had issues with visas and playing fields/arenas during Covid and so on. I get what you are trying to imply, but no, you are wrong.
MLB, NHL, NFL.NBA are USA Professional sports who may have teams in other countries from time to time.
-
P.S. there are other organizations but no one cares about them
-
hardcore NFL fans agree Manfred is the worst of the 4 major commissioners and Roger Goodell would be their first target if the purge was real. Bad take Kierian

Pretty terrible take. After his lockout a different team won the Stanley cup for over 10 straight years and in that same time every single team also made the playoffs at one point. He fixed the entire structure and now manages a league with the most parody. So much parody that the “watered down” team he added who got to take the 7th best player from each team actually made the Stanley cup finals.
Before Bettman we had two line passes for crying out loud. He’s always been the fastest to change medieval like rules and look for ways to improve a league unlike others, triple overtime in February for one point? Yeah everybody misses 2 am Wednesday nighters. The guy has grown a game that America hates to the point it was able to leave the olympics and just host its own.
