HOF Ruth Moments... and my wife

For the Ruth moments, I started off by playing in order, like I always do. Beat the Orioles. OK. This is easy. Decided to skip straight to HOF challenges at the end. For me, this is no easy task. I beat the AL East, 1-0 mainly because of a bases loaded walk. So, I skipped to NL "final" for the heck of it. Yikes.

I'm struggling away. I'm facing Sheffield in the bottom of the 5th, score 0-0. My wife walks into the room mid-pitch and says "hello". I look up to say "hi", wasn't paying attention and grooved a fastball straight down the middle. He blasted a no-doubter 450 feet. My wife says "Yay! Nice one!" I said "that wasn't me". She said "I thought you were good at this game. You play it all the time."

Top of the 6th, down 1-0. Scratch out 2 walks, then my newly acquired Posada hits a 3 run HR. My wife says "Awww... another HR? I'm sorry." I said "that was me this time". She said "Oh. Did you put it on an easier setting?"

Married 22 years. Love her to pieces. Still.

First to parallel level V with...

Hunter Harvey, 59 overall with the Orioles. This is quite possibly the crowning achievement in my long and illustrious MLBTS career. Why Harvey? Well, I certainly wasn’t going to be able to do it with any of the “A” players. But, I can proudly say I did it with one player before anyone else.

So, when you’re looking at your Orioles live squad, and thinking “who in the world wasted an inordinate amount of time bringing this guy to level V?”... Now you know.

    Your Day-1 action plan

I will be here on the East Coast, logging in at 12:00:01 a.m. Friday. Here's what I'm doing:

    1. Watch the opening video for the first and last time all year.
    2. Spend a few minutes figuring out the navigation of the menus. I think I just jumped in last year and didn't pay attention. Focus!
    3. Rip open my packs. Sell any Bronze/Silver/Gold LS cards that are overpriced.
    4. Work through Conquest and Moments to earn more free stuff. Start earning FotF cards, whatever that entails.
    5. Do NOT play online yet.
    6. At 3:00 a.m. when I head down to bed, have a good excuse ready for the wifey. When she groggily says "What have you been doing? Playing that stupid game?", I will say "No, I was searching the internet for tasteful photos of Anne Hathaway". She can't possibly be mad at me. I mean, Anne is slightly attractive and has won an Oscar. Classy. My wife is a fan. It's not like I'm searching for Selma Hayek - if I was, she'd be furious.

I will not be switching to Madden

Since everyone is posting about their Madden intentions, I am just here to say that I will not be switching. I will play inning 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. I will finish TA4, 5, 6.... I will attempt Extreme. I will collect whatever collections remain. I will continue to happily flail at high sinkers and 102 fastballs.

I'm sure you're all relieved to know what it is that I will or will not be doing for the rest of this game cycle. You're welcome.

    This is why I play...

I am not that good. Let's just start there. I will admit to recently losing a Moonshot event 19-1. So... I'm not that good. But, I don't quit, and I love this game, warts and all.

I just played a RS game. My rating going into the game was in the 460's. So yeah... not great.

I'm playing mainly to get affinity points and daily rewards (innings with the Reds, and 4 RBI's). The guy I'm playing is probably better than I am. He's mowing me down with 100 MPH fastballs that I put weakly into play. Heading into the bottom of the 6th, I'm down 8-1. Every home run he hits, he replays it. Whatever. I need my innings and the odd RBI here and there. I scratch across runs in the 6th and 7th, and hit a 3 run HR in the bottom of the 8th to make it respectable, 8-6. In the top of the 9th, he hits a 2 run shot with Jackson a mile, off of Fingers. Again, the replay. Again... whatever.

I come up in the bottom of the 9th, down 10-6. He makes the move to a relief pitcher, and starts throwing breaking pitches. Here's what happened:

    1. Posey hit to right for a single
    2. Dietrich doubles to left (need my Red's innings)
    3. Correa fielders choice, 1-2. Runners on 1st and 2nd
    4. Larkin lines to LF for a single (Reds again)
    5. Anderson lines to right for a single. Dietrich scores. 10-7.
    6. Justin Turner batting. Opponent brings in Kirby Yates. Hangs a slider down the middle. Turner hits a 353 wall scraper to left. Final 11-10.

I will probably never do this again. But for this 450's-ish player, it was fun.

Finally finished LS collection - thank you to the Forum

I've been playing MLB the Show for 10+ years, mainly RTTS. Starting in May, I dipped my toes into DD. Not sure why I waited so long.

Back in May, I was a newbie. I was buying all of my cards using the dreaded "Buy Now" button. Yikes. I don't know how many 10's of thousands of stubs I wasted. I started reading the forums and learned the ways of the "market", Showdowns, Team Affinity, Online Play, etc. There is so much good advice (and funny stuff) out here. Thanks in particular to @raesONE , @SchnauzerFace , @bhall09 , @olivegarden2 , @SaveFarris - I've learned a lot from you folks.

So... I finally finished my LS collection today. I don't spend any money to buy stubs, so I look at it as a small victory in my first year in DD.

    Thank you!

    I did it!

I have managed to go the entire MLB 21 game cycle without picking a single duplicate TA card. It was my biggest accomplishment this year, and I'm very proud of myself.

Well, I guess that's all there is. See you in 2022.

Daniel Murphy or Josh Bell would be quite the surprise.

The Moment for Josh Bell would be "Tally 1 hit over the next 7 games".

Early Thanksgiving wishes for the forum

I know it's early, but I thought I'd send out a note to the DD group. I will use a lot of words here, so I apologize in advance.

I've been a long-time RTTS player, and dipped my toes into DD for the first time this year. I've had a blast. My learning curve was shortened considerably by following this thread and reading all of the tips/tricks/etc. It certainly made me a better player - from "terrible" to "less-terrible".

So... for the slightly sad part. About a month ago, my father was diagnosed with an aggressive form of liver cancer. I spent a lot of time with him in the ER, Hospital and finally, Hospice. The good news is that I got to spend a lot of time with him and my family. We reminisced about the days we went to Fenway Park, including game 1 of the 1975 World Series. Watching the Reds at batting practice was a highlight (Morgan, Foster, Perez, etc.).

During those times with him, when he was resting and I needed a distraction, I'd scroll through the forums. I know that not everyone agrees on everything out here. But it's still entertaining. And again... a good distraction. Some of you guys have amazing senses of humor, and I'd just sit and literally laugh out loud at some of the posts. It sounds corny, but it was therapeutic to me.

So... thank you. You guys made a terrible situation for me better. I appreciate it more than you know. Have a great Thanksgiving, go hug your family... whatever makes you feel good.

I know, whom cares, right? 😉

As a dedicated English teacher, I thank you for correcting the youth of this generation! 🙂

From one of my favorite scenes of The Office:

Ryan: What I really want, honestly, Michael is for you to know it so that you can communicate it to the people here, to your clients, whomever.
    Michael Scott: Oh okay.
    Ryan: What?
Michael Scott: It's whoever, not whomever.
    Ryan: It's whomever.
Michael Scott: No, whomever is never acutally right.
Jim Halpert: Nope, sometimes it's right.
Creed: Michael is right. It's a made up word used to trick students-
Andy: No. Actually, whomever is the formal version of the word--
Oscar: Obviously it's a real word- but I don't know how to use it correctly.
Michael Scott: [to camera] Not a native speaker.
Kevin: I know what's right. But I'm not gonna say. Because you're all jerks who didn't come see my band last night.
Ryan: Do you really know which one is correct?
    Kevin: I don't know.
Pam Beesly: It's whom when it's the object of the sentence and who when as the subject.
    Phyllis: That sounds right.
Michael Scott: Well it sounds right but is it?
Stanley: How did Ryan use it, as an object?
    Ryan: As an object.
Kelly: Ryan used me as an object.
Oscar: Is he right about that--
Pam Beesly: How did he use it again?
Toby: It was, Ryan wanted Michael, the subject, to explain the computer system, the object--
    Michael Scott: Thank you!
Toby: ...to whomever, meaning us, the indirect object. Which is the, the correct usage of the word.
Michael Scott: No one, uh asked you anything ever so whomever's name is Toby, why don't you take a letter opener and stick it in your skull?

You know if you don’t win in the next hour, some anonymous bronze added in the roster update is going to make you tear your hair out.

Very true! Which is why I grabbed the rest of the series while waiting for Tatis to clear waivers.

P.S. I learned this trick from you two years ago. So... thank you!

Well you need to follow them on Instachats or Facespace if you want the real inside scoop. Everybody knows that.

Don't you mean 'MyFace' or the updated version of the EBDB?

My best friend Brian and Tall Guy have one of those I think. I should get one.

I hate showdown as much as anybody, but this was super easy and I finished it on the first try without any sweat. Very easy 15K.

Weird how this game works. I've had zero issues with Showdown this year, and this one was a pain for me. I kept failing in the 3rd stage. Took me 4 times to get through. I can't remember that ever happening.
