I like Rob Manfred

I think people give Manfred too much slack. They dislike the COVID rule changes but he’s trying to navigate a minefield trying to give players reasonable travel schedules and game lengths during a pandemic.
People get on him and say he’s doing a poor job, but in reality his job is to protect the owners interests and then negotiate when necessary. People give him slack because he doesn’t do what you want, but ultimately what the owners want is usually motivated by revenue, which will eventually intertwine the fan interests

Then why is Adam Silver loved by pretty much everyone, owners and players alike? He has the same responsibilities as Rob Manfred, same hurdles to take. The answer is because he is way better at his job than Rob Manfred is.

Yikes you like manfred ? I mean what is there to like he hasn’t really helped grow the game in any meaningful way he doesn’t excel at just about any aspect of his Job IMO.

Anyway, Manfred is a stooge. He actively puts his foot in his mouth whenever he can and has done more to hurt baseball than help it.

First, I think you’re using the wrong word, slack means he’s essentially being given a break. I really think you mean flack.
Second, Manfred is horrible at his job. The sport is bleeding fans and revenue, his job is to grow both. His constant wishy washy, back and forth on gimmicky attempts to speed up the game is doing more harm than good. Also, he’s horrible about transparency. Everyone knew they messed with the baseballs, but he wouldn’t admit it until it was too obvious to deny. Same thing with “sticky stuff.”
Like him or not, Bauer called him out on it 2+ years ago and proved how beneficial the stuff is, he essentially told Manfred and the league he would win the Cy Young and he did. Again, Manfred waited too long to address the issue.
Lastly, the whole Astros fiasco was and still continues to be a sore spot with the league. He handled it horribly, both from a players standpoint, but more importantly, for the fans.
There’s just a few issues he’s managed poorly, this list could go on quite a while.

Adam Silver knows the players have the power. No minors , small team roster. Player driven league where fans go to watch a Super Star play ( actively involved every minute on the court ). He does his job knowing the players have the power and acknowledges that and works with them from a position of less strength.
Mandred job is wholly different. Yes they both have the same "job title ". Like a lot of jobs in life, title means very little. Manager of your local Starbucks job is wholly different than a manager of a factory. Same title ,diff job.
Manfred knows the sport is driven by Team Branding more than player branding. Baseball owners have control over a players life the first years of their careers. Manfred manages from a position of strength. It's why baseball players can't strike without huge backlash on them. Yes, owners get backlash but not as much as players. Most baseball fans complaints when a players is doing bad ? Overpaid.
IMO, Manfred does a better job at instituting rules and such for the betterment of the league. Sticky Stuff, steroids, length of game and so on. When they make a rule, baseball has no issues enforcing it because the commissioner has strength.
Basketball? Weak enforcement, can't even get players to stop flopping. Players have the power and Commissioner can only ask for changes abs beg players to behave.

One thing that shows how out of touch Rob Manfried is. After they started checking pitchers this year and Scherzer and Romo did their little stunts and fans are booing when asked about it he said he thought it was going very well so far.

Smh, you do realize a person in power and responsibility for a whole league can't really say what he thinks. Look at Twitter. Everytime someone in the public eye says what they really think, they end up apologizing.

To be fair, analytics ruined the game, not the commissioner. I don’t blame team management for trying to get an edge, but efficiency is making the game stale: 3 true outcomes, shifts, launch angle and so on have made the games longer and less attractive to fans. Not to mention it’s hard to sell a slow game in the overactive and attention span divided era we live in. Can’t sell players that bat 4 times a game in 3+ hours like a point guard or a QB that have the ball every play.
30 years ago, entertainment was books and TV, and you were stuck with whatever 30 channels were putting on. Now you have what you want when you want, on demand. Baseball hardly fits in that world.

Not a cop out. It's the world we live in. Do I like it? Hell no. I can speak my mind because I am nobody. Others can't for fear of losing their jobs or money or what not.Sticky stuff = steroids issue. In hindsight , baseball acted too slowly because fans were loving the home run chase and revenue was rolling. Manfred is trying to get ahead of the problem this time. He is DOING HIS JOB. Protecting the game now and for the future regardless how people may think of him in the " moment "

Manfred’s job is to grow profit for the owners period. As long as the owners are happy with their ROIs, they will keep him there. They dont care about the integrity of the game, being equitable with the players or giving value to the fans. What baseball needs is lose their anti trust exemption.
