Starling Marte and Sonny Gray are both diamonds in 20 (although I'm not convinced they'll start there in 21)

Where does your buddy Tim start in 2021? Gold?

If he starts out as a Gold and you lock him in towards the White Sox collection and he eventually gets put in the FA section of the game; is he still locked in?

    Yes, he is still locked.

And does that mean that you're now 'obe short' for the White Sox collection?

Normally, you shouldn't lock down a player until you're ready to lock down the entire team. The only reason to partially lock a team's roster is if, in cases like MLB18, where you got partial credit for locking down partial rosters. And even then, I'd go out and find a common before locking down any gold/diamonds I didn't have to.

Also, have they (SDS) ever 'down graded' a player that is injured? IE: Gold to Silver?

    Rarely if ever.

You mentioned not picking in a player until you have the whole team.

So, you don't lock in the 10, 20, and 30 levels to get those stubs and XP as soon as you have that many players?

You wait until you have all of the team's cards and then lock them in; thus getting XP and stubs 4 times at once per team?

I guess everyone is different but, since I know from the very beginning that I'm planning to finish the LS, I see no real benefit to waiting to lock in players until you've got the whole team. Even on the first day, you can probably lock in to the 20 or 30 levels for almost every team for really cheap. All that XP will help you progress through the XP path so you can start unlocking better cards earlier in the year.

I imagine they will put him back to gold (it seems like SDS just doesn't like TA -- it took until the very last update last year to make him a diamond, even though a lot of guys were getting upgraded for doing way less). He won the battle title in 2019 and came in 2nd (I think?) in 2020, and he's got very good speed and decent pop so I think he's worthy of an 85 or 86. He needs to figure out the defense a little better if he ever wants to be higher than that though, imo.

I wait until I have everybody. Because I was emotionally scarred in 2017.

Had 39 Cardinals locked in. Acquired #40 (Seung Hwan Oh) early on a Friday, but couldn't get to my machine to lock it in. At 2pm, the Roster Update dropped and added Magnerious Sierra to the roster, meaning in order to finish the collection, I had to pay 1500 for a common. NOPE!!! Took another 2 weeks before I finally locked in the team and I've been a completionist ever since.

If that happens again, I will Venmo you $1.50 so you can buy the 1500 stubs that it would take to lock in the team.

And the White Sox are going to trade for Trout

I have it on good authority he's going to the Pirates.

Team collections don’t change. Whatever team his card is on launch day is where it will be all season. All that will change is his card art if he gets traded.

Not correct at all. If a player gets traded to another team, he is now on that team in DD.

He will still be on the squad. To be taken off the collections list the player needs to be off the 40-man roster.

Didn't this issue arise with the Rockies last year, when everyone was fighting for a Common A.J. Ramos? Maybe it was because it was late in the cycle. I can't remember.... but I know you do.

And it probably wasn't A.J Ramos... but it WAS a Common that took forever to get.

As for the op I’d just sell eloy for 5-8 k or whatever he will go for day one and save it up. Even if he remains on the Sox roster you can fine back and but him for cheap within a week when people start to realize he is out and not a good diamond gamble card.

The thing is that a long term injury like this allows the team to put him on the 60 day DL and remove him from the 40 man roster while still keeping him, as long as he is on that 60 day.

Right but he will still be on the teams collection page. Verlander will be on the Astros page all year despite never picking up a ball.

So that has to mean that the 'The Show' 40 man roster is not exactly the same as the actual 40 man roster. There is no way a team would leave a 40 man spot open for a guy who is out for the year with TJS rehab. They need those spots for guys they can plug in to various roles over the course of the 162 game/6 month marathon.

    Correct.

There are ways SDS can cheat around that though. Over the past couple of years, the Astros have been notorious for not having a full 40 on SDS's rosters. Usually, it's because they're hiding a couple of Rule V guys on the back end of the roster and since they haven't played a game in the majors yet, SDS can't give them LS cards.

Yessir. In rare occasions they've even had 41-42 players on the collection screen.
