Ok. So Eloy Jiminez is out for 5-6 mos; so most of the season.

If he starts out as a Gold and you lock him in towards the White Sox collection and he eventually gets put in the FA section of the game; is he still locked in?

And does that mean that you're now 'obe short' for the White Sox collection?

Also, have they (SDS) ever 'down graded' a player that is injured? IE: Gold to Silver?

If you finish the white sox collection he’ll be locked in regardless of where he ends up.

There is no way Eloy would become a free agent. He in the middle of a 6 year contract.

I don't think they downgrade anyone for injuries.

I'm not saying that Chicago makes him a Free Agent. I'm saying that SDS does what they did this year and when a new player for the White Sox gets a card ; they take Eloy out if the Team Collection to make room for that card. Like they did with Osuna from Houston this year.

What I mean is say that I get him a n one of my Gold Choice packs.

If I lock him in and there are 40 players listed in the White Sox collection; that means that I need 39 more to complete the collection.

But if SDS moves his to the Free Agency Collection, to make room for another player on the team, does that mean that he no longer counts as one of the 40 for the White Sox collection?

Uhm, if you complete the WS collection it doesn’t matter if they move him.

If you don’t complete the WS collection it does matter if they move him.

Team collections don’t change. Whatever team his card is on launch day is where it will be all season. All that will change is his card art if he gets traded.

You’re really overthinking this. If you get Eloy Day 1, and finish the collection, he’s part of the collection regardless of where he ends up. If you don’t finish the collection then he is where ever he is.

If you’re worried about this, I’d suggest not locking in any cards for a team until you’re ready to finish that collection, that way if someone gets moved you don’t lock in a FA. They can also get moved to a different collection if there is a trade, often teams will be easier or harder to complete around the trade deadline because they traded away or acquired a Diamond player. Best way is to just not lock in cards until you have them all for that team and lock them all in at once. Once the team is complete, it’s complete forever.

    Yes, he is still locked.

Normally, you shouldn't lock down a player until you're ready to lock down the entire team. The only reason to partially lock a team's roster is if, in cases like MLB18, where you got partial credit for locking down partial rosters. And even then, I'd go out and find a common before locking down any gold/diamonds I didn't have to.

Also, have they (SDS) ever 'down graded' a player that is injured? IE: Gold to Silver?

    Rarely if ever.

Hi! Your xbox designation signals you must be new here.

    A. Team collections DO change as players are signed/traded/released/promoted. Roster Updates typically happen every Friday (Attribute Updates usually every 2 weeks. I know they did updates every week last year but last year was weird.)

    B. MOST of the time a high-profile player will receive new card art when traded, but not always. I'm sure some of the old-timers can chime in with their "favorite" cards that haven't seen any art changes in multiple years despite rampant team-hopping. (Looking at you, Jesus Sucre)

Eloy Jimenez is a clown and a half. This is the fourth time he's hurt himself because he plays the outfield with the grace and coordination of a newborn giraffe. I'm a huge Sox fan and I love Eloy, but come on.

As to your question -- I see where you're coming from, but the only way to game the system is to have the gift of foresight.

For example, if you somehow knew Trout is going to get traded to the Pirates this year (which seems legit), you could lock in the Pirates at the beginning of the year for basically peanuts, then wait until Trout gets traded and lock in the Trout-less Angels for really cheap. In this scenario, you would NOT need to get Trout at all, because the Pirates would already have been completed (and you wouldn't need to add any new roster additions, unless it's just to satisfy your own OCD), and you would be finishing off the Angels after Trout is off their roster.

Did this with Machado in 2018. Saved almost 75K stubs.

I forgot about him going to LA for a couple months! Nice savings.

I wonder if there are any players this year who are going to be diamonds and also likely to be traded before the deadline? Trevor Story seems like the most obvious candidate. Baez is another reasonable guess, but I just don't see the Cubs making any moves. Starling Marte and Sonny Gray are both diamonds in 20 (although I'm not convinced they'll start there in 21), and either of them could potentially get moved I guess. Cleveland's best option for the future is probably to do a fullass rebuild, but they would be fools not to build around Bieber. So I guess maaaaybe Ramirez but he would need to bring in a really good return.

And the White Sox are going to trade for Trout, but everybody already knows that.

You mentioned not picking in a player until you have the whole team.

So, you don't lock in the 10, 20, and 30 levels to get those stubs and XP as soon as you have that many players?

You wait until you have all of the team's cards and then lock them in; thus getting XP and stubs 4 times at once per team?

I guess everyone is different but, since I know from the very beginning that I'm planning to finish the LS, I see no real benefit to waiting to lock in players until you've got the whole team. Even on the first day, you can probably lock in to the 20 or 30 levels for almost every team for really cheap. All that XP will help you progress through the XP path so you can start unlocking better cards earlier in the year.

I imagine they will put him back to gold (it seems like SDS just doesn't like TA -- it took until the very last update last year to make him a diamond, even though a lot of guys were getting upgraded for doing way less). He won the battle title in 2019 and came in 2nd (I think?) in 2020, and he's got very good speed and decent pop so I think he's worthy of an 85 or 86. He needs to figure out the defense a little better if he ever wants to be higher than that though, imo.
