My thoughts are that the show will be released on time with few new game play /game mode features due to covid / work from home etc. If they can’t get new features integrated by the end of March, I can’t imagine a few extra months of work from home will make a difference.
At the end of the day there is too much money to be made when they could easily do 4 simple steps:
1.) Ctrl + c, ctrl + v
2.) Find ‘20’ replace with ‘21’
3.) Roster update
4.) Save as mlb_the_show21_vfJust so late. No news. I've played the show since 2013 and it's never been delayed so long. And with covid idk.
I think OP got it right, it's basically gonna be copy and paste and hope they don't destroy the ps4 (and I guess Xbox one now too) version. Look what they did with cyberpunk on the ps4/Xbox one systems, complete disaster. I get maximizing what the game is for the new systems, but the problem with that is a LOT of people don't have those systems yet, neglect the ps4's of the world and you're gonna lose a lot of customers.

Solely based on the fact that we've never gone this late without news, combine that with the impact of Covid-19, and it's a very plausible idea that it could be delayed.
It wouldn't surprise me if it had something to do with covid, mainly California's coronavirus lockdowns and restrictions. While this is the digital age, something tells me that it's not easy to develop a game remotely. Patches and updates, yes, but not sure about a full game.
I've heard that so many businesses are closed that it's hard to find a bathroom in San Francisco that isn't a porta-John. So it's quite plausible.
But I do find the lack of news, even leaks, very strange. Usually the cover player is announced in late December or so.

Communication as never been a strong point of SDS but I think the lack anything regarding '21 has red flags up for a lot of people. '20 was announced in October '19, six months prior to release. We are essentially two months from when the game would normally be released and there isn't a single known fact about the future of the series.

Y'all are forgetting it was promised to release on other platforms. The standard ctrl+c doesn't apply to other platforms.
I don't see where MLBTS 21 gets dropped on Sony consoles and then released later on other platforms.

All I know is they need to give enough lead time so that we can ask off for time from work the first couple of launch days.

I just watched a YouTube video. The stadium atmosphere is unbelievable! Not going to lie, other than not understanding a [censored] thing it looked like fun.

yeah i think its better then the show.... you can choose the play from high school and go pro, and play a high school season then you get a girlfriend ive made it that far.... you have the season/dynasty where the more games you play the better players play....if you have a pinch hitter who is like 2/30 his PCI is tiny.....the pci is also self adjusting in season... to hit a homerun its not like the show.. you have to have your PCI just undet the ball enough with the right timing.... too much under and its warning track.... the game is probably the best $50 bucks i spend all covid

I really depends on what they plan to do with all these different versions. Are they going to release a current gen version now, then a free upgrade to next gen later on down the road if you buy a certain version. Like Madden and 2k did. Or they going to release both versions at once? Will there even be a next gen version. They could simply release this on PS4 (and now xbox one) and say next gen won't be until next year. Which would be a really dumb move imo. But who knows.
Who knows with these game developers anymore. I wouldn't be shocked if the game is copy and pasted with a late March or early April release. They blame Covid and promise changes next year. I also wouldn't be shocked if they actually put in a ton of time and delivered a solid game worth the new $60 tag. That drops in May or June. They have a whole new group of gamers who will have access to the game now.

I just wish we could get any insight. Like if it's going to be delayed, which given it's already January 11th, just come out and say it's going to be delayed. I'd actually be good with that. But again, it's the silence that is beyond frustrating. You can't tell me that at this moment they don't know what their plan is.

we will hear something in time with CES 2021... im assuming it will have online cross platform as well, and either it will have massive updates, rtts updates, franchise and season, with commentary etc....

Yeah, it’s like when you’re in a restaurant and have ordered your food and are waiting forever for it to come.
It makes a huge difference when the server comes over to tell you what’s going on and maybe comps you a drink... -
they just tweeted out a promotion to buy MLB 20 as part of their "holiday sale". forget being released on time, I am starting to doubt if there is even a game coming this year.

this could be a PES situation...1\2 price roster update with new DD cards and a full blown next gen multiplat release in 2022
