Finally got my Mays yesterday, but now..
-
Where the hell do I play him? I’m running Soto in LF, Trout in CF and Mantle in RF. Tempted to keep Soto as a bench bat but that would leave me with only one lefty in my lineup (Ruth) and hit over .325 with both Trout and Mantle. Tough decisions man
-
Haven’t gotten Mays yet. But when I do, I think I’ll be taking out Trout. Leaving Soto and Mantle in. Put Trout in the later innings for defense.

Do you actually do defensive substitutions? I've never seen anyone do that nor have I ever done that.

I do for the last couple of innings. Soto and Hornsby defense isn’t great. I don’t want their lack of range/arm be the reason why I lose. Plus, who uses their entire bench every game for pinch hit? I do not.

I have Pudge and Cobb on the bench for exactly this purpose, subbed in for Foxx and Soto respectively

I run Ted Williams in left, so after his 3rd at bat (or if I need a speedy runner/better arm for him efore that) prestige Mantle comes in. Or I double switch if I use Mantle as a pinch hitter for my pitcher earlier in the game.

I benched Mantle, it was an easy decision. I grew tired of him for months now but he produced so I couldn't really justify benching him for someone else until now.
Edit: prestige Mantle that is. I play Griffey, Trout and Mays over him.

Soto bench? I suck with Griffey for some reason
-
Go Trout, May's, Mantle if you are worried about defense. I love Soto's bat but his defense is the worst. I've had him misplay even easy hit ball right in from of him. He has the ability to turn a base hit into a double for the other team. I will say though that Mantle on the bench really gives some flexibility. You can sub him in to pinch run for Soto and leave him in for defense. I also like having a switch hitter on the bench, just in case. And heck yes to defensive subs, Pudge takes foxes spot any time after the sixth and I'm winning. Although I might just play Realmutto there full time so I'm not wasting a bench spot.

Yes but only because I value defense out there and I rake with Griffey. But Soto is better offensively also with the quirks and all that.
-
Mays, Trout (prestige), Soto for me. As someone else said, just tired of Mantle as I've had him since May. Soto has been too good for me but Griffey is first bat off the bench.
-
Well I'd never bench Trout so if I were you that leaves you with 2 OF to decide from, not a ez choice at all I'm going through that myself but I did leave Trout and Mays out there.

Yeah I hate Mantle. He’s even more underwhelming than Willie Mays was last year. At least I could hit with Mays.

I agree, looks great on paper but unfortunately isn't it. At least for me, I know many people still rave about him.
-
I'd swap out Mantle assuming you've had him for a while. Either card is elite, have fun and use different ones. I benched prestige Mantle 25 AB's after I got him in order to put Griffey in.

None of the collection rewards were very good this year. I’m a huge ‘90s guy as you know, but Biggio swings a wet newspaper and is about as useful as Pudge with the bat, albeit with a lot more positional versatility. Sheffield is another card I was super hyped for, but I’ve yet to prestige him and I’ve struggled with his swing. In retrospect, I can’t really say any of the big three collection rewards were worth it, the divisional rewards certainly weren’t unless you completed them within the first couple of months of the game being released and even then..... Meh.

I'm huge on Sheffield this year man, his swing works for me I'm not sure why but it feels great & I sit middle in since everyone tests you right away with the up and in sinker, especially against him it seems. Perfect description of Biggio, sometimes he would hit tanks and I'd be surprised due to all of the squared up flyballs that would die before the track most of the time.

I did like Biggio and Sheffield, although I too struggled a bit with Sheffield. But they got replace rather quickly once the better cards came out.

I’m curious who else makes your wet newspaper list. I had the same experience with Biggio and Pudge, yet hate to give up because I’m a fan of both. Another wet newspaper for me is Jackie outside of a few outlier titanic bombs.

Jackie isn’t too bad for me but I don’t use him at all. There’s so much more than power ratings that go into a card and affect your success though. Swing type is a big one because it affects bat speed, but even a players height, which obviously dictates the size of the zone, can make or break a card.
