I try to buy every card that’s near quicksell , that way if I get low on stubs and need a card I can recoup at no loss. It’s like money in the bank. I try to keep 200k viable and the rest in cards

This is the best thing you can do if you have enough stubs. Worst-case scenario, you bought a card for 5100ish, it doesn't go up and you quicksell later for 5000 when you need stubs.

But if there is a Honus collection, some of these cards will explode and you've made a huge return at essentially 0 risk.

Yup, i’ve got 500K tied up in cheap diamonds i bought for 5K a pop

You’re also going to need future stars prospects and faces of the franchise. Besides just buying anything and everything you’re going to need to do some grinding for some players too.

Get all of the 1st and 2md inning golds first. They're the most expensive. Avoid rookies until the market declines. Buy up every gold flashback/legend on the market, all of them 5 each. Purchase any cheap diamonds, 5 each of you can afford it. Continue working towards more. Once that program hits you can sell off all your excess cards and potentially earn your 200k back and purchase more.

That's a good point, you literally can't lose on that deal cuz quicksell is tax free!

Do you know if all the inning bosses were needed for Honus?

No they were not, just broken into card types like the collection area always is. They just add more rewards, you needed like 4/5 of every kind of card. So I would expect the same, like , prime, SS, all-star, prospects etc

Sounds good, so if I already have live series, and most of the "Legends & Flashbacks" sections with 10ish collected, I should be in good shape?

Trying to gauge what other stuff I'll need, maybe all the prospects for Wander Franco?

I'm interested in this topic as a 1st year player

I just watched a video on last year's Honus and you were needing like 60 rookies, 60 breakouts, etc

I would buy everything you can near qs value, like the 87 Ted Williams, 86 Ryan Braun currently, sixto Sanchez, etc (the 2nd tier from those packs are pretty cheap too) and keep them unless you need the stubs. Every time a free prospect pack drops you can get the cards at qs value thru buy orders.

When I was still grinding ls (when 3rd inning dropped) , I was constantly flipping nick Madrigal buying at 5k and making a couple hundred per flip. Now that it's been a few weeks, the buy orders are over 7k for that. Next time he's cheap again I'll be grabbing them for the collections.

All that said, I don't think I'll lock the prospects in quite yet

100% buy all the cards cheap but do not lock in, that way if you don’t want the honus card you can sell and make serious bank and get several people you do want

Remember to that the program last year at the October/Novemeber mark was pretty cheap to complete and by that time you will have 3/4 of the cards needed just have to decided if you want a fast fire or a slow burn

The collection was really easy later in the year last year. If you get all the cheap ones right now, you won’t have to buy that many when it drops.

The only part that was expensive was the Signature Series collection, but even it was pretty easy after a while. Remember, they’ll keep dropping new cards (a lot for free) so you don’t need to do it right away.

I'm guessing it'll be too expensive for me, but I'm going to try and find that video. Interested in when that'll drop as well.

I think I find the collecting and prestiging a bit more fun than the gameplay LOL 😲

It dropped third or fourth week of July. Don't remember details as I didn't have a prayer

It wouldn’t surprise me if Honus or something equivalent required a certain number of fully Prestiged cards

Checked the stats for last year's honus, def not worth the millions of stubs. If I need a high contact / vision hitter, I'll use Tony Gwynn #lol

I doubt it. They want people to spend stubs to complete the collection. You can’t spend stubs to prestige cards faster, and it would likely turn even more players away from trying to complete it.

So I have Mantle and about 220K stubs. Should I be buying the diamond stadiums and other legend cards now while they're cheap?

I wouldn't buy the stadiums. You can earn them for free in the Innings.

I think it will either be Honus again or nobody. The purpose of having that Honus card so rare and expensive last year was because the most expensive real baseball card was the real version of the virtual Honus Wagner card that was out last year. It was dubbed to be for only the best collectors. It doesn't really make sense if it is a different card if you ask me.

Yeah he or some other old school player are the only “rare” choices but....

Well if they had the rights to Upper Deck the 89 Griffey used to be a holy grail, but not after market saturation. But in the early 90s it was coveted by every young boy that collected lol

I doubt it would be Wagner to get this treatment 2 years in a row...

I'm hoping for Yaz or Pedro.

I just found a binder of some of my old cards that has the Upper Deck "Dream Team" cards. A shirtless Canseco, Will Clark in a suit, Doug Jones with the baseball on fire, etc. I remember at the time they were kind of chase cards due to how different they were. LOL.

Edit: My mistake, these were from Score.

If you want to get it done early, then Rookies, breakouts, allstars, veteran, and postseason cards is what you need now. Prospects and the players league cards I am fairly uncertain on whether they will be included or not. Future stars shouldn’t be a problem as you would likely need most of the TAs maxed out to get the collection done fairly cheap anyway. Prime, SS, and Awards cards will be given out like candy later in the year so if you done want the collection done right away wait until october/november when there is a bunch of them given out for cheap plus the eventual headliner bundles will drive those cards way down

Agreed. There’s a good mix of players to challenge Honus anyway. And some of the future stars cards are so beefed up anyway I’ll take those for free
