It just looks weird in this game because they don’t have enough animations for good swings out of the zone. IRL players will lunge or drop to a knee or really extend their arms or fall back, etc.
In mlb 22 you just get stock swing for the most part. They seem to have way way more varied animations for swing and misses than swings for pitches thrown out of the zone.
You really want the pitcher to pitch from second base and throw all balls and pitches on the black to my monthly cards but then throw a couple lazy BP cutters over the heart of the plate to my non-monthly cards?

Just my opinion others might have better fortune with him…I did not like his swing in his new spotlight moment. Castilla was no fun either.
The moment is a good way to test the cards out even though batting feels suppressed in moments.
What I will add is I noticed when grinding monthly pxp on rookie with 6 monthly players playing, my Piazza and Julio Rodriguez always got notable player mentions at the end. Just always felt like after Dawson led off and did whatever the AI would center cut the first pitch to Julio and he homered every game.

What year was it? 18? Early on you could tinker with the sliders outside of DD and they would apply to moments in DD. Suddenly moments were fun, the pitcher located pitches in the strikezone, hooray! Hits meant something!
Then SDS found out and patched it so sliders didn’t work inside DD. Moments went back to what we have now.

I noticed since patch 4 or 5 the AI will start their dive even earlier making it look more ridiculous than before, the player dives and then as his 20’ dive slows down the ball rolls into his glove. It's preposterous. so looks like the devs are really into this nonsense.

This still makes no sense, so you could lock the cards in for optional collection early then get no sell dupes as your reward or wait until you get the final 90 pack in the program path.
But then why would you do the collection if you got the final 90 pack? There is no more progress and nothing to unlock after that pack.
It looks like SDS messed up and put the rewards in the wrong order.

Exactly, is it get to Rizzo unlocks stage 3 or do you have to clear every stage 2 pxp mission? If it’s the latter I would need to spend about 50k to get no sell cards and that won’t happen. I will just stop with rizzo.
Sadly they do this all the time. Nobody at SDS can do math. Nor can they playtest anything,
Last year so many player programs had you needing to use the featured player to get 5 xbh or whatever and that would get you 10 points.
Except um, you could not get the player until like 48/50 points and 50 would be 1 show pack.
So what would be the point of doing the player mission?
Or things like you are at 38/50 and 48 gives you the featured player. You could play AI on allstar for 10 points or chose path B and do 2 collections for 9 points total. Wait what? So collections were pointless because you would be 1 point shy and still need to play the AI on all star. Sigh.
The simple fix for what they have effed up here is to make the topps now 2000pxp repeatable in stage 2.
Has anyone figured out if getting to Rizzo unlocks stage 3 or do you have to clear all the pxp missions in stage 2 first?
Edit: Lo and behold there is an example of this in the current monthly program. Last reward is a 90ovr monthly card. Once you get to that pack and acquire the card guess what? The program is over and you don’t need the points that cards pxp mission would give you. Sure could use that card and the mission points now. Why does SDS do this?

Yeah this part makes no sense. Same cards you could pick earlier and sell, are later in stage 3 packs no sell.
Because why?
The batting is rng. Which is why we are not allowed to move in the batters box or open/close batting stance.
If they added those things they would have to adjust the bat contact result table and possibly create several more results tables for open and closed and how we could adjust our timing by moving forward, back or side to side.
So instead of adding in something lots of other baseball games had from the start, they just don’t because it would take too much coding to hide the rng.
I feel like the ball, much like it is in fifa, is not a free object. In fifa the ball is very rarely loose, which is why it seems so scripted/rng because the ball must always be rushed to the next player or the game will break.
In the show the ball does not seem to be free. I see examples of it when the ball is hit and the fielders know exactly what rebound to play or angle to take. It seems to also be tied to the pitcher/batter in a way as well. It’s too random with results vs where the ball is pitched making it very much feel like the outcome is predetermined
Like there is a hit result pool. Ball is thrown and does not matter the location in the strike zone, a table is consulted that has probability percentages. 7% homer, 3% triple, 6% double, 10% single. 20% foul 14% groundout 20% pop up 20% fly out.
I think this is exactly how they tweak the game to get us to bat like real life numbers. If they need more hits they just add a little to hit percentage. Less just take some away.
I have gone through a bunch and settled on offset 2. I like how it gives you a little extra peek at pitches breaking towards you.
Yep the insane CPU defense is a “feature”. I have been playing a bunch of offline DD on rookie and veteran and even though I have won just about every game (yes, Rookie in conquest has beat me this year) the CPU has collected every defensive award available.
Things the rookie or vet CPU gold glovers have done defensively my nice collection of FOTF and other nice diamond cards have not done.

Any passed balls the CPU catcher knows where the rebound will be AS the ball is passing him. Sigh.
Meanwhile I have made 2 diving catches in the outfield.
