Defense only seems insane because of the dives, otherwise it seems normal. I will say defense actually seems to matter more at 1B this year. I’ve noticed a ton of plays where Thomas doesn’t make a play I know a Diamond fielder would/has consistently. Still not a huge risk but it can be the difference between a hit or an out.
For me it's all the same, in BR I draft mainly offense which usually results in very average defense and they make all the plays almost all the time.
They make routine plays and will keep balls in the infield most of the time but have you played with a Diamond 1B a decent amount?
No, but what does it matter? An out is an out regardless of defensive rating or defensive shield.
A ball knocked down instead of fielding it cleanly can be the difference of turning 2 or not, plus the range chasing foul pop ups can be the difference of a foul or out.
I don't think you understand, I'm saying that bronze or even common fielders make all the plays all the same when it comes to the auto dives.
They don’t though. I’ve seen many times where Thomas and Giambi don’t field it cleanly. It was a noticeable difference to me.

So my thought, would it be a good idea to display or advertise the % chances? Sort of like how they show pp averages? Bronze fielders have a 40% chance to make a diving play etc?

I think they should just tone it down altogether. Both the instances where they field it cleanly for an out or even a DP, or where they prevent it from going to the OF and potentially save a run. Both animations are almost standard whenever you hit a line drive that's not going straight to the glove.

Sure, but what does toning down mean? Because obviously the percentage chances already exist, so what are they? What percentage would it be after toning down?

Impossible to say if we don't have the actual numbers. Which we never will.

Let’s not even talk about the fact every pitcher in the game plays gold glove defense like he’s Ozzie Smith and every infielder sprints to the ball in the outfield. If you just took away those two things and the auto shift you’d see so much more hit variety
-
Yeah the range of the diving plays need to be scaled back, guys are diving and snagging balls 20 feet away. I laugh about it about it need to be adjusted no question

The infield diving plays are ridiculously OP. Fielding rating doesn't matter one bit, everybody is a Platinum Glover out there. Let's see who disagrees and thinks this is totally realistic and "JuSt BaSeBalL bRo".
When I play against the CPU, The CPU team: guys that should make easy routine plays will sometimes boot the ball, but then players with bad fielding make the diving amazing plays.
-
CPU is like Ozzie Smith, Robbie Alomar and Brooks Robinson rolled into 1 and the outfield...bonds, mays, and clemente...at every position....they dive...it's caught! every single time it seems like!

I noticed since patch 4 or 5 the AI will start their dive even earlier making it look more ridiculous than before, the player dives and then as his 20’ dive slows down the ball rolls into his glove. It's preposterous. so looks like the devs are really into this nonsense.

I know right they just fall and slide perfectly until the ball gets there.

Anybody can dive 15ft and make a play. Ask a diamond IF to turn a double play though... 🦥
-
Happens every game some nobody makes a wow play thats just baseball bro
-
hitting a single through the infield on the ground is borderline impossible. it shows a weird animation that covers about 10 feet either way when you dive. tbh its gotten to the point why not dive on every single play, let alone the ball plays like clay so if it even hits you it wont go far and the animations to pick up the ball and throw are comically short
-
Think it is one of those things they overcorrected. In the past almost every time you tried a play like this the ball would glance off the glove usually in the opposite direction you were diving and no way to make the play, no matter how good of a fielder they were. Now they all seem to make the play.
