At least 15 losses due to disconnection? But, ya got through 23 wins just fine? Dunno. But on here you'll hear opinions ranging from get gud to get a better TV/monitor to just all sorts of nonsense.

Just the baggage this game has always carried is the most likely cause and the only way to fix that is keep that $69 in your pocket next year or invest in a different distraction. 23 has more warts than a Bourbon Street hooker with chronic HPV.

This is the first year I'm not flipping, I have accepted that I don't need to chase every card (Had every single one last year) and trying to just enjoy the game

Thank God. I'm thinking watching paint dry on a wall would be more fun than flipping digital cards.

I semi understand the physical baseball card collector mentality because there truly are real-life profit opportunities. And, it's pretty cool to display a mint Mick Mantle in your man-cave or locked securely in a sports bar. But in this game no one really cares, surely wouldn't be impressed, but the person collecting the cards I wouldn't think

And, for sure, there is no value other than the satisfaction that you've accomplished some objective that no one else really would care about. And, don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with personal objectives. You, as an individual, own them and whatever distraction keeps you getting up every morning is righteous.

Set 2 is a disaster. They made it so if you actually play the game you can't actually profit off of the programs anymore. Only way to make stubs is to sit on the market, guess on cards which they never upgrade who actually should. It's so corny to make stubs now. I get sheckels thrown at me for playing games. I would say I could make it to ws to get a ws card and sell it, but sds thought it would be hilarious to reset my rank 3 times in 1 day, "seasons over!!" 3 times bruh. so I have to start in spring training. Sent in tickets about that and the no xp and haven't heard back in 3 days now. Don't start this bogus EA stuff where you just funnel people into the store to buy stubs please.

Ppl really care about making stubs in the market? I mean, I've heard comments about it but is that a fun thing?

I actually like the commentary overall... the first couple times. Sometimes it's even interesting. But seeing and playing with so many of the same guys just makes it stale and I keep debating turning them off.

I think good commentary can make a game more immersive. The game needs as much of this as possible all things considered. Until it becomes repetitious and distracting. And, obviously, when they just throw in commentary that isn't correct.

Nothing screams "we don't really put in a lot of effort" when you hear the announcer say about Max Scherzer "One of three pitchers to have struck out 20 in a game. Clemens and Randy Johnson being the others". And any Cubs fan, and most baseball fans, will add the most exciting/dominating 20 K game was Kerry Wood. Not mentioned at all in the amateurish audio clip likely spliced in by some developer that doesn't know anything about MLB history and grabbed the first tidbit he googled to put into a production product the company was going to sell for $70 a pop.

I mean, how silly does that make the company look when they are "supposed" to be this masterful MLB gaming company that blows it on audio that all their fans will hear over and over and over. Makes them seem like they just fell off the turnip truck. For sure questions their credibility.

Who knows why they don't put more effort into it. Maybe it's just too daunting of a task. Maybe no other sports game does a good job with commentary. Anyone familiar with good commentary in an EA game for example?

I know I am pretty critical at times, but what's it gonna take for SDS to start polishing the really dull parts of their product? Sure ain't going to be a customer base that only wants to talk about how great all these Diamonds are that land in their lap. All the new content and features that take one step forward and two back.

Oh well, whatever they want to do.

The 2 biggest cities in a country by far. The 3rd biggest city, Vancouver, is 1/2 as big. To make this comment is like saying Tokyo (most populated city in the world) produces the most major leaguers from Japan.

I would say stick to just calling outs-strikes-balls, but they get that wrong too. I've stolen 2nd a dozen times and been called safe by the announcer only for the inning to end because I was actually out.

    C'mon Man!!!

  • The power-hitting Jorge Mateo et al
  • ShowProdigy_MLBTSS ShowProdigy_MLBTS

Mateo has 23 homeruns in 4 years. He's never hit one further than 390. He's about as much of a power-hitter as Ozzie Smith. Why not the "base-stealing" threat Jorge Mateo. Or just say "speedster", "power-challenged", "lazy-bat", whatever...but Mateo is one of the weaker bats in the American League.

This gross misrepresentation is rampant. 58 rated relief pitchers that the announcers are drooling over as they talk about their "filthy sliders".

There are a lot of things about this game I'm sure are painstakingly difficult for developers to get right. Perhaps that's why most every online match "seems" to be a randomized script whereby one opponent is given a huge advantage over the other in key situations. A virtual let-them-take-turns-winning type dynamic and the AI will assure it.

Realistically trying to code a game that relies almost completely on something as mundane (and I'm not trying to be rude) as hitting a sphere that comes through a square(it's like pong in an MLB uniform) is nearly impossible to scale. Everyone that plays around with it for 20 minutes or so is going to be pretty proficient. There just ain't that many moving parts so, the code has to take over and dictate outcomes. I GET IT!

But, why..oh why can't the team get the audio to a point it just isn't silly? All that would take, imo, is effort and time. Unless SDS figures the majority of their customers don't really know the game that well..have seldom watched a MLB game. Don't play fantasy baseball or look at box scores. The historical data and player "personality" audio is subpar to be kind..and inept and lazy if you were not trying to be nice.

And to me, that's a testimony of how much they don't "appear" to really care about the details. This in a product they know millions (maybe I'm generous with that number) of ppl will play. Where is the pride inside this company? Isn't there a reckoning when the commentator spiel just constantly goes off the rails? Maybe it's just an inside joke within the walls of SDS. Perhaps they do it on purpose. Whatever, it's pretty annoying. WE ALL KNOW THIS CAN BE TURNED OFF. But, why design a game with such a horrible component customers would want to turn it off?

Whatever, you could forgive the dummied down commentary if the game had any consistency of play.

Jesus how can people play the cpu on rookie all day? Weird..

Previous years I could destroy people online but all of a sudden this years game I can’t throw a pitch in the zone without giving up home runs… interesting. Doing the same stuff but different results.. wonder what made them want to change the game and cater to bums…

Don't know if you're intentionally trying to find a gear to spark interest or market interest, but pretty much anyone that has played this game (even sporadically) has teams composed of 97-99.

For one of the first times in the series (and I've played many) you don't really have to grind. Just play a couple conquests, showdowns, trade a few cards..and you're loaded.

I don't suspect your comment to be genuine but, if so, it only requires about 6-12 (depending on how gratuitously the slots are working for you) hours to build a team of all 90's north of 95. It takes longer than that to get to chapter 6 in RE 4.

First thing, conjecture is not a valid way to begin an argument.

No offense, but conjecture is about all any of us have. And again, no offense, but imo your rebuttal to his conjecture was more conjecture.

You did a much better job of presenting your conjecture, but he could be exactly right and nothing in your reply offers quantifying fact or stats to suggest he's not correct.

I would have to say my own personal experience suggests diamond pulls are pretty much just random chance. But I, for sure, have zero foundation to support that. one way or the other.

Would it make perfect business sense that if SDS could generate more pack revenues through a well-researched and formulated method of "randomizing" diamond pulls they would? Irrefutably Yes most would agree.

And I don't think anyone would have to produce stats, facts, or a smoking gun to insinuate SDS would prefer making more money than less on their product and micro transactions. So some speculate they do..and that ain't anything more than following the money so to speak.

To speculate a company wants to make max bank through whatever method they hide behind the curtains is not "conspiracy theory". It's basically stating what you might do yourself if you held the title CFO of a software gaming company.

There is no perfect context in a debate where no one involved has the answer. You throw darts and sometimes you hit the bullseye and don't even know it.

But SDS does release their pack odds. That’s my point. It’s public knowledge. A diamond pull is 1:50 for normal packs. I think 1:10 or 15 in BIAH and same for Diamond duos. You can view those odds on the pack opening screen. So I have not offered conjecture to support my argument I’ve used the given info to base my argument on. Also I’m the the one questioning his premise. The burden of proof is not on me it is on him.

Sure, and perhaps they actually honor those odds. Understandably, it's all stats/probability but I opened 78 packs (that is accurate) before a diamond this year..Shane McClanahan (no excitement there) and have opened 50+ (stopped counting exactly) more w/o another diamond.

I've pulled 4 in Ballin' is a Habit packs. Which I haven't counted but guess I've opened less than 80 of those.

So both of my experiences would be Waaaay low. But, again, if you trust SDS odds I'm going to go on a huge streak of diamond pulls, or someone else out there is pulling one about every 7 packs or so. So, not sure whether those odds are your personal odds..or odds over the entire spectrum of customers that might also purchase packs with real money and thereby sucking up the odds of the non-pack-buying customers. LOL.

Who knows. This year, though, I get very little "rush" out of pulling diamonds just because they rain down on me in most of other facets of the game. Couple years ago I might have been stoked about that McClanahan card and 4 other BIAH (all 80's BTW) diamonds. This year I haven't used one of those.

  • TA Season 2 is underwhelming
  • ShowProdigy_MLBTSS ShowProdigy_MLBTS

I think it's the "cause and effect" of their multi-season strategy this year. I understand they are trying to avoid the logjam (and resulting customer indifference and mass exit) of lineups composed of nearly all perfect cards by July. I'm, for sure, one of those.

I've read countless accounts (how true..who knows) that pack sells drop by 80-90% by July 4th and pretty much start dipping incrementally until only the most dedicated niche customer market are still hanging around. Everyone else has just bailed due to the staleness of it all and moved on to some other distraction.

Starting these "new seasons" may, perhaps, keep a few more customers interested. It might keep me around for a bit longer to see how it goes. Hope it works out for them. They are the only game in town, and w/o SDS 'da Show we would have few other options.

  • ShowProdigy_MLBTSS ShowProdigy_MLBTS

Dap..very good point. Andre Dawson won a single MVP..playing for a last-place Cubs team and wearing #8. Did go into the HoF as an Expo, but not his choice. He made a public statement following his induction “I’m disappointed. I can proudly say that, because Chicago was my preference.”

I don't recall, in MLB the Show, ever seeing Dawson as an Expo. I do remember him seeing his card as a Cubs player at least a couple times and wearing #8.

However it only makes sense, if you put a player in a certain uniform of their career..to use the # they wore on that uniform. I don't know if SDS is consistent with whatever formula they use. Not really sure they have a formula or always a lot of deep down research/knowledge into MLB history.

But, if you brought Bonds into the game would it really represent his prestigious abilities (juiced or otherwise)? I mean, we've got a boatload of 99's floating around at this very moment that are about as topped out as a card can be. It's pretty much a bunch of nearly identically rated cards with different faces/names.

I'm pretty sure Bonds had more detractors than fans. His own doing. Comes from the Cristiano Renaldo school of "Your love makes me strong..your hate makes me unstoppable". IMO, the skinny Bonds was one of the greatest players ever..the 'roids just solidified the fact. Still believe him to be a poster child for the narcissistic modern athlete that has zero genuine allegiance to the fans that made 'em. Take him or leave him..just another 99 brick in the wall.

That's the very paradox of this game. It's marketed seriously as a MLB sim, but it's not designed seriously. Undoubtedly the company wants the buyer to seriously believe they are getting a serious sports sim, but we get a superficial randomized non-competitive experience.

Are we sure Meter pitching isn’t just broken?

I’ve been using Meter…and it’s felt broken all year. I have pitches I barely miss the meter on that go 5 feet out of the zone.

Then I have pitches where I miss the meter by a lot…that are only a few inches off.

I’ve had inputs that show Perfect on my screen…and then register as Very Early on the feedback.

I only use meter so I don't have a great point of reference.

I do find it peculiar, you can see that in the video as well, that when the animation shows my accuracy nearly dead on the line I'm getting "early" feedback and then the ball ends up 2-3 feet from where I setup. As close as I landed the accuracy with a pitcher with pretty good control..I shouldn't have missed my target by more than 6-12 inches. Well, that's typically what happens anyway. It's a crapshoot. Don't even know why I keep bringing up what most know anyway. Guess it's therapeutic...Ha.

I agree. Meter is either broken or I’m starting to believe more of what you post.

Played a game today against a guy who couldn’t touch 98% of my pitches. But miraculously hit 3 pitches I got “Perfect” releases on that mysteriously went right down the middle.

Pitches aimed at the black or outside the zone…and all with “Perfect” releases….and all went in the middle of the zone.

    Sure was odd.

Also odd is that when using Meter…I often just BARELY MISS on a release…and the pitch goes 5 feet from where it was supposed to go. Often for a pitch that the player doesn’t even have to look at…it’s an OBVIOUS ball as soon as it leaves my pitchers hand.

But then when I miss a release badly…the pitch only misses by a little bit. I have to miss a release in the red for it to miss by a ton.

It’s been this way since launch…and it happens multiple times a game for me. Online and off.

Well, if it's broke ya know the Developers know it as well. They introduced Pinpoint a few years back. I played with it somewhat, but you always go back to what is familiar.

I would be all for the company just pulling Meter if it's inferior. I mean, just make the official statement that for whatever reason metered mode has glitches we cannot overcome whereby we spent tons of development hours coming up with pinpoint which does address the shortcomings of other pitching modes.

I mean, just having ppl out here say pinpoint is better doesn't really inspire confidence they are correct. Just like my claims..take them or leave them.

Why can't the company just say "hey customers, metered pitching has got a ton of flaws. You will not be as competitive using this mode. Switch to Pinpoint". I would surely take their official suggestion and make myself proficient with Pinpoint.

Brother, if you play 365 more power to you. You got more staying power than me. Enjoy!

This is the only option for sports games for me. I’d rather fire up my Sega Genesis and play Tecmo Bowl than any Madden game the last several years and basketball sucks. Don’t get me wrong, I play other games, but this isn’t a forum for other games.

This guy feels it. Madden has got to be the worst experience that makes millions (billions) in the entire world of sports games. FIFA (or whatever it's gonna be called) isn't far behind but Madden is less fun than playing Tecmo Bowl. I wish I still had a version to fire up. Great analogy.

I'm also with you about the fact MLB the Show is likely the best (most fun anyway) sports game. I've never played NBA or NHL.
I don't believe SDS is even close to as obsessed as EA is with microtrans. I mean, I haven't purchased a pack this year and still have about 40 sitting in my queue and no real inclination to start popping them open. Sincere kudos to 'da Show there.

And, tbh, these guys have created a forum that truly allows folks to gripe and complain on occasion. EA has pretty much put a moratorium on anything even slightly critical of their games. Even suggest there is something "odd" going on in the code and they will shut you down in a heartbeat. Censorship is for fascists and those that have sucky products.

So, I'm probably going to keep purchasing this game and enjoying it more than not. It's the intangibles that matter.
