No secret to anyone here what I think of how SDS has managed their video game MLB The Show for the last several years. It's decidedly negative for many reasons. That said, now that the World Series has ended the 2026 baseball season, it isn't too early to ask the biggest question out there.

What happens with MLB The Show 27? In my opinion, the most likely result is the entire 2027 MLB season will be cancelled due to the lockout that will almost certainly begin when the current player CBA ends at 23:59 on December 1st of this year.

One cannot easily count the number of customers participating at this community forum who have consistently told SDS they have rested far too long on their previously earned laurels. That they have spent the last several years spending woefully inadequate human time and resources on keeping the game engine and the overall game experience as realistic as current video game technology can support. The game has become choked by overly layered code that often operates against itself, producing wildly inaccurate presentations during a game.

Is SDS going to "mail it in" another year for 2027 and release MLB The Show 27 with nothing more than cosmetic changes in how the game functions, relying more on marketing slogans to repackage existing game function into enticing but false promises of new and better function? That's been the trend for too many years. People are noticing, and another year of that approach, combined with the near certain absence of an actual MLB season for 2027, doesn't strike me as an intelligent strategy.

We don't know. Do they still have the MLB license to use all players. If so I assume it will be much like this year minus content based on games played (Topps Now)

They'll just need to come up with more content like Mural and Cityscapes. They could do retro Topps Now cards. More History style missions. Lean on legends more next year

They'll figure it out. Whether the fans would like it is anyone's guess
