For anybody paying attention to the Cardinals and the messaging from Chaim Bloom this is not a surprise. They are trying to build back to having a sustainable pipeline of homegrown players. They are going to get who they can for whoever has value while freeing up payroll. I am not sure many players are safe. There is a lot of talk of trading Donovan with JJ Wetherholt (who is MLB's #5 prospect for the league) waiting in the wings.
As sad as it is, if the ownership is not willing to spend more on payroll then this is the path they have to take for now. Arenado will be tough to move and they will have to eat a ton of that contract as well but I know that they are trying to move him. I would not bet against Contreras going either although all of these guys have no trade clauses.
Clarke has had limited outings but so far in the Minor has a 14.2 K/9 rate and a 4.0 H/9 rate in very limited minor league action. So there is some potential there. He will be coming up along or just behind Liam Doyle.

Kind of Expected. Hope they don't make any more trades with the Red Sox as we have already acquired
RHP Hunter Dobbins, RHP Yhoiker Fajardo and RHP Blake Aita were the haul for Contreras
Earlier we got right-hander Richard Fitts and lefty prospect Brandon Clarke for GrayI am not sure Boston has any more pitchers we can get from them.
I am seeing fans from both sides calling the Contreras trade both good and bad so it must be a pretty decent one for both teams. Red Sox needed a 1B and the Cardinals are stockpiling young talent.

I'd call it salary relief since they are still paying the overwhelming share of his contract, although I think some of it is deferred. They are also eating some of Gray's Contract.
Still curious if they trade Donovan. From everything I have heard their asking price is high, as it should be . They have already agreed to arbitration so I say why not keep him
2026 is definitely going to be a let's see what we have. I think it will be a make or break year for players like Gorman and Walker
As for the game I hope we get the 99 versions of some of our flashbacks. This year other teams got the 99 versions of Goldy, Arenado, Holliday, McGwire, Rolen
