I'm just expecting all the Cardinals cards to be downgraded from last year.
On the plus side, they should be far more affordable to collect.

Ah, I forgot that is how they do the ratings reveals. Would have been obvious when the first 99 overall popped on the screen. Doesn't change my initial thought that most Cardinals will get a downgrade this year.

I'm not trying to be a smart alec, but who still plays franchise? Is it still fun to play and try to win the WS? I haven't done this mode in 8 years.

It may not be the majority but there is a group of players who pretty much only play franchise. Just check out the Operation Sports forums for The Show. They are almost entirely devoted franchise players.
Why don't we hear more from that group? Because, honestly, there has not been much to discuss. The mode only sees a few small changes every year and they don't get constant content updates all year long so once the game releases there is not much to talk about.

I want a Winter League mode so I can play as Asdrubal Cabrera and clothesline a player as they round 1st after hitting their third homerun of the game.
