For me, I don’t really mind about the PCI size. I mean, make it as small as you want, but make the results of a swing definable.

Like, for example, if the ball is dead in the middle of the PCI, it is “perfect” or “squared”. If it is near the middle, it is “good”, if it is nearer to the edge of the PCI, it is “ok”, etc.

What irks me is the randomization. The same swing might give perfect, squared, good, or ok depending on chance alone.

I realize this will prompt replies of, “attributes have to matter”. That’s fine, let them matter, just tell us HOW they matter.

SDS

Good luck with that. They dont tell us anything.

Yeah, I know. Think about it though, you make a game but don’t tell people how to play it? It smacks of Las Vegas!

SDS

Also, I wonder how accurate the feedback actually is. Maybe the feedback shows the ball was in the dead center of your pci, but maybe it wasn’t. There are so many variables at play.

That’s a very good point. Again, it would be great to have some transparency around these issues/questions.

SDS

this is why this game will never be part of any competitive play for prize like madden.

this boils down to lack of skill and creativity of the devs. truth is, they just aren't that good. we've gotten the same game for about 5 years in a row with just tweaks to hitting and fielding. pitching is left untouched, same for commentary and graphics. then when the game comes out, they meddle with it all year long because they realize what a POS they released. then in the spring we all go YEAH! new game new features! then it comes out and its the same mess every year with the same bugs and the same broken patches. but SDS is a group of highly skilled innovative artists right?

its the people. dont kid yourself. they aren't good enough to deliver thats why the show will NEVER be in a truly competitive space like madden and call of duty. too much random math that usually makes no sense because they ppl that make the game are bottom barrel video game talent. truth hurts SDS huh?

I think he’s making a fair (though exaggerated) point. Who cares if BattleBones86 is any good at what he does? The point is that this is really the only legitimate baseball game on the market and the developers’ level of talent should be commensurate to the game’s level of prestige.

SDS

They talk to us through Victor & Collin+ the streams, if your waiting for a dialog on twitter with one of the devs it ain't happening.

you can bet your [censored] the if I was making game that generated the money this game does, that I would hire the best. this is a first party game backed by Sony. im certain they could lure and hire the best if they gave a [censored]. and by the way, yes I am the best at what I do for a living. Ive dedicated the last 25 years to learning my craft day in and day out and id go head to head with any person on earth doing what I do for a living.

I find that when the ball comes off the bat, you can tell if it was hit well or not, but the feedback doesn’t always match what I see off the bat. For example, I see that I hit under the ball and too much to be a HR, but my feedback says it was almost dead center. It was still a flyout, but the feedback just seems off. I can’t say its 100% of the time, but often enough to leave me curious about this

SDS

Good points, everyone. I guess lack of competition in the field doesn’t really help the matter. It’s like auto insurance where I live. There is only one option, so the rates are going to be high.

The only other game I play is madden and it is pretty much a black box as well.

Pretty annoying IMO

Ive thought that for years. I havent talked about it on here in a while because anytime I suggested that the feedback could be the problem I got shut down by whiners who want to blame the hitting mechanics instead of thinking about that possibility. Honestly I really believe if we had 100% accurate feedback people would get humbled real quick on their skill level. Which is why I think its inaccurate

Perhaps, like madden, you have devs and program managers who want a good product but executives who want revenue increases and allocate more resources to the things that will yield that effect. Madden gameplay product keeps declining but revenue does not.

SDS

PCI placement and swing timing are part of the equation, not the entire part. Ratings, pitch factors, environmental factors etc. get jammed in there too.

Don't always trust the PCI feedback either, it's been said by SDS themselves that isn't 100% accurate. You are playing against someone else and you both are connected to the server. Information is not processed 100% correctly.

The one thing we all always have to consider is they are programming off a sample size that that no single player would ever sniff. The individual player is always likely to achieve higher peaks and valleys.

It's not an excuse for them, but it does explain why adjustments that are made don't always seem right.

For the most part they have hitting dialed in as well as they have in several years.

Personally the fielding, pitching, and baserunning flaws that are directly impacting user input are far more game breaking IMO.

I’m on the same wavelength because it’s a whole other thing that gets programmed separately. I played my first ever online nine inning game last night and I remember specifically there was one swing where I swung at the top of the zone (the animation even had the bat swing at the top) and the feedback had my coverage at the bottom. That was so not correct.

But like everyone else, I have no way to prove it apart from what I think happened. Darn I just realised I could have saved a clip.

SDS

I don't fully trust this years feedback. I've hit several to the opposite field on a inside pitch and it showed "good" timing. Sorry, but if i'm hitting oppo, it's because I'm late.

I call BS on that, simply because you don’t have the logic to understand that a baseball game is a niche product and exclusive to a single console; it’s not raking infinite dough. It’s behind the NBA and Madden games in the US; same in Canada. FIFA, NBA and to a lesser degree, NHL sell in Europe; baseball is microscopic. No XBox presence. Sony is Japanese, not American. You could (probably) lie about your age, competence, field of work. So attacking people on their job when you have 0 idea what it entails means you don’t have any credibility.
