If u are referring to DD, i think it's b/c the players can be from different teams and have same#, Usually the best version of player uses the name audio.

The database of last name voice files which are used for created players in RTS and Franchise was drastically reduced this year with the introduction of a new commentary team. My hope is that SDS will take steps to add lots of names back to this database next year and years to come.

But it is not just created players and RTS.
Most of the legends are called by number only. For gods sake, Albert Pujols is still an active player yet his Rookie of the Year card is referred to by the commentary team as #5.

The voice files, such as a last name like Smith or Rodriguez can be used for multiple players. There are both a first and last name database. However, for some players SDS has put the names in a different way,

The last name Boudreau was also deleted. No Lou Boudreau can be created with his name being announced.

Yes. The same with guys like Fisk Wakefield Berra Maris Embree, Yastrzemski Doerr (Bobby) so on and so forth. It’s frustrating and takes away enjoyment of creating and playing the game

Why can’t I pick Polanco as a last name but there’s Jorge Polanco who gets announced correctly?
