I hope it's Jackie Robinson again, because that hasn't been beaten into the ground enough.
It has to be Otani.
He's arguably the best player in the game, is an international superstar, and a good kid.
Or keep it going with the youth movement-- Juan Soto, etc.
The young guys with some flash.I think it could well be Jeter
I was thinking the same thing once the other person mention him; but if they're going to have a huge player like Jeter; they would want to make him a Collection Reward.
Can't imagine having a cover athlete and them releasing a decent card late in the year.
How do you think a Jeter card would actually translate to the show? High contact, low 80s power, silver, maybe gold defense when paralleled, and 70s speed with no secondary positions. Good card but he won't be the best shortstop for very long. He'd have to be released before any of the other good shortstops to be a starter.
I think it's important to remember that the vast majority of players who play this game are not competitive and simply want to play this game and use their favorite players. Jeter sits in that level of popularity that very few have reached in the last 50 years of the game.
Yes his card would at best be a mid range card but as a cover athlete that is used to market the game he is a no brainer cause people will buy it because he is on the cover.
Also stats really mean nothing and he could get a boosted card that plays.
We need to stop looking at this game from a strictly competitive aspect and more a history of the game where you can collect and use players from all generations of the game
Valid points, but if they're going for popularity and marketability then imo Ohtani is a better choice than Jeter. Ohtani is a bigger international draw and more likely to bring in casual/non sports gaming fans than Jeter is.
Jeter would be fun to use for sure, but the very vocal online competitive community would probably hate him lol.

Prediction - Kirby Puckett.
Or Robby Alomar.
-
It's gonna be Jeter catching a pop-up

I don't argue Ohtani as being marketable for sure but is Ohtani a more recognized name in the game then Jeter that is a universal hose hold name I would argue not yet. Also I think there is a real discussion to be had that SDS might have considered a lockout could happen so using a legend for the cover made things alot easier even if no CBA in place had no impact on the release of the game so a Jeter cover again makes sense.

If it's Jeter it'll be one of two images. Him pumping his fist or the Jeter Flip.
-
The silhouette cannot be the actual player! Look how scrawny those arms are!

Othani is the obvious choice among current players. Of course there is a lot of factors in play here. Remember that Trout has never graced the cover and has deserved it.
I don't know when they have to make the call on the cover athlete. But if it was in the last month they could have very easily gone with a legend since the status of the actual season is in doubt.
Fans have been wanting Jeter on the cover for a while now so that is always an option.

They will make him super jacked just like they did with Tatis, reality be damned. Tatis as a diamond fielder? Get outta here.

I didnt read through this whole thread, but I am assuming everyone is speculating Jeter right? Time Square, Jeter now in HoF, got to be right? No way we get Joe DiMaggio.

I'd love to get a Joe D card but yes, the speculation is over Jeter. Would be nice to see him added.
