Serious question: What's with the sliding into first base, after your batter hits the ball?

What's with the sliding into first base, after your batter hits the ball? In all the times I've had this done to me, they've NEVER been safe.

It does work sometimes on feeds from the first basemen if the pitcher is going to tag the runner. Other than that, I think it’s just people wanting to feel like they are doing something.

Sometimes the game will do this weird animation where players will slow down and stop on the bag instead of running through first so sometimes they might slide to avoid that happening.

Also, if someone isn't using button accuracy, the throw may be "up the line" and you may be able to slide under a swipe tag. rarely happens, but I have seen the animation.

Otherwise, some people do it all the time kind of like the folks that jump in the air and run around in circles on fly balls or have OFs "run" the ball back to the infield a la The Sandlot.

For me, it's a twitching reflex action. Not sure if it actually helps, but I find that having runners advancing while running down the line, sometimes eliminates the slow jog to first and can trigger the defender to rush the throw a bit.

There is one legitimate reason to slide into first in this game. Ballz hit weakly to right field. Sometimes the runner rounds the bag (not controlled by the user) and he could get tagged out. Happened a lot in 17. I had it happen to me once or twice this year.

In that scenario I slide every time to prevent my runner from rounding the bag. Problem solved.

Otherwise, it’s pointless.

Like some other guys were saying, every once in a while the fielder's will throw it up the line if they aren't using button accuracy and also plays where the pitcher is running their banana to the bag and go for a tag, both times sliding saves you. Otherwise it's an OCD thing or hope and pray for me.

This has actually happened to me before. Throw was offline, and my guy dove right under the tag.

Sliding into first should slow down the runner. Unless avoiding a tag, it should never be a good idea.
