Happy Birthday Derek Jeter!

Growing up, Jeter was my hero. I’d stay up late with my dad watching the games, and while I loved many of those Yankees: Mark Teixeira, Brett Gardner, all the way to AJ Burnett, there was nobody like Derek Jeter.
I remember his 3000th hit. I was eight years old at the time and my dad would set up the game on the computer, to where I would watch for hours in his spinning office chair. As he hit that home run to left center, I sprung out of my chair and screamed in excitement to my family. He turned a normal Saturday, into a great memory of my childhood.
People can bring up whatever weird and flawed metrics they want to discredit the captain, but the reality is that the lessons he taught me (and thousands of other boys) about leadership, sportsmanship, and being a good teammate is something they can never overrate. Jeter was the Captain, Jeter was a winner.

As a kid, my favorite player would change every few years. From 2008-2013 it was Jeter. From 2013-2016 it was Gardner, from 2017-2020 it was Judge. And now it’s Gerrit Cole and Aaron Judge.
Yankees fan today, tomorrow, forever.

I felt old reading this too. I'm a Yankees fan thinking fondly of adjusting my antennas to get a slightly better picture to watch Don Mattingly play lol
