Best Catcher in the Game?
-
At the point where I’m thinking my power focused CAP catcher isn’t the best option behind the plate. Catcher is the last position on the team that I need locked down.
Been using Realmuto for a few games and like him so far, I’m hot and cold with Pudge as I’ve used him, and haven’t used Piazza yet but curious how he does?
For those that have had a revolving door at the catcher position, who do you believe is best and why? Thanks for the responses!

I used to have a revolving door. Then I got Johnny Bench. Took some getting used to but he's by far the best option as far as I'm concerned. Hits for power, hits for average, great D (which is a glaring issue for Piazza) and has an absolute howitzer for an arm. Only thing lacking is speed. Piazza, Pudge, and Realmuto may have Bench beat on 1 or 2 attributes, but he does everything you want out of the position.

I am going to probably die trying to get Realmutos swing down. But pudge has been a nice surprise for me lately.
-
JT is my catcher, but hey it doesn’t matter how good they are, they will miss balls in the dirt routinely
-
Posada or finest JT
-
Jt has been great for me so far in about 20 PA. Hasn’t been a liability behind the plate either.
Probably going to run with him for a while and once I hit WS, probably sell the reward and try out Posada

I have a decent amount of past balls with Bench. Is Piazza that much worse? Is it a passed ball every time with him? I’m considering Piazza for the 600 star reward is the reason I ask.

I just started using a cap and even the gold 82 rating seems better than anyone I've used all year. 2008 chippers swing is money

I just got Realmuto today via Finest rewards, can wait to use him, but have to hold off because currently using Garver just to finish up with Team Affinty point to unlock the final card to use for my collections towards Honus. Curious to see how he does for me. Want to see if he dethrones Pudge as my everyday who has been my everyday since I got him. Before that I used Carter, Torre, LS Realmuto, etc, none were great for me. Pudge has given me the best results thus far. I have not tried Piazza yet since I got Pudge due to Piazza's slower running speed & for me that is a must being that I am losing speed with Frank Thomas & Miguel Cabrera as it is in my line up.

I've used every single diamond catcher in this game. Offensively, you're on your own. It just depends on who you think you hit best with. But defensively, they're ALL garbage. I use 99 Molina, arguably the best all around defensive catcher by attributes, but the way SDS programmed this game, he's garbage. Every single catcher in this game including Molina allows a ridiculous amount of passballs, particularly resulting in either allowing the batter to reach 1st on a strikeout pitch, or allowing runners to advance. I mean pitches in the dirt that little leaguers could make and keep in front of them, for some reason, catchers in this game just cannot.
I really hope this will be one of the many issues with this game that doesn't become a reoccurring problem in MLB20.

Really depends who you hit best with. There’s no definitive best catcher in the game besides maybe Posada. I’d start with Realmuto, Grandal, Santiago, McCann, and Garver and if you can’t hit with any of them move to Piazza and Bench. After that Try Molina and Pudge. Don’t bother with Russell Martin he is absolute garbage
-
99 Posey has been the best for me I would say. I don't have Posada. I think I tried his card in BR once and he raked. That was on All Star though obviously.

The passed-balls are not as much of an issue if you don’t throw the breaking pitches that bounce three feet in front of the plate. I mean, you can throw a chase pitch that the catcher can actually block. It IS possible.

I don't know dude, I've thrown fastballs down the middle and have the catcher somehow vacuum the ball into his armpit and straight to the back stop.
Now I just use Piazza for his bat and accept the fact that there's going to be some swings and misses on pitches in the zone that still won't be caught by the catcher lol.

Brutal. I guess I’m lucky to have not had the worst of the passed bawl luck.
-
Bench for me

Passed ball problems are really bad and prevent you from pitching the way you want it’s pretty dumb.

I’ve tried bench, realmuto, carter, and piazza. Carter and Piazza have the smallest sample sizes, but I’ve hit the best with Carter so far out of everybody. I’m currently using Piazza. I have about 40 at bats with him. The hitting is not great but he’s throwing out runners left and right. Go figure.
