Yeah that Ankiel SS was on point.
It was the lowest rated sig series card. All sig series cards were jacked up. And for what it's worth, his rookie year he had a 134 ERA+ and 194 strikeouts in 175 innings.
Great, he should have had a RoY card then, SS is based off multiple years and Ankiel was...not so much.
He came on 2nd in ROY voting to Furcal. It was a multi-year card in the sense that it had good hitting attributes. He was an outfielder in the league for years afterward. He had back-to-back seasons with a 119 and 120 ops+. Hit 25 homeruns in 2008 I think it was.
Ok man you're right, a guy with a career WAR of 9.1, 13 career wins, 76 career HRs, a career .240 hitter and ERA of almost 4 with one good season certainly deserved an 88 Sig Series card.
As I said, all Sig Series cards were jacked up and his was the lowest rated one in the game.
It was a cool card. I specifically requested it once on here, but I thought a "what could have been" line of cards would have been cool. If they did that, he would have been rated even higher.

If you weren't a Cubs fan you wouldn't have such a hard on about it. Half a season, Flaherty threw 150+ innings in 2018 with a 3.34 ERA and 180+ strikeouts. In 2019 the only bad month he had was in June.
Half a season worth of diamond status lmao. Almost 100IP a . 91 ERA with 123 K's to only 23 BB. That was one of the most dominant stretches in a long time. There was no one close to touching him.
So in a system that places the most weight on the recent season, coupled with a good 2018 season, you have yourself a nice shiny diamond.

Pete broke multiple records in his first and only season. Tell me all the records Flaherty broke so far in his 2.5 seasons...I’ll wait. And no one said he played 3 full years just saying you can’t base his rating purely on last year. He doesn’t even have a winning record for his career yet and they handing him a diamond lol. ERA wise yes he was an absolute stud for HALF a season but that doesn’t justify a diamond imo
What does a winning record have to do with anything? I'm not saying Pete doesn't deserve a diamond either, they both do.
ERA wise lmao, go look at his strike out rate, walk rate, HR allowed, or any other measurable stat and try to say it was just "ERA wise"

Dude was a 6 WAR pitcher last year with a 155 ERA+. Couple that with amazing K/9, low BB/9 and a 3 WAR season in his first go around, plus youth and great projection.. ya, he's a diamond 100%..
My Jays could have traded Donaldson for him after the 2017 season and we didn't... I'll always be upset about that...

Juan Soto is a gold so they could generate hype around the roster updates once the season started. Obviously he should be a diamond but they did the same thing with Bellinger and Judge and nobody was expecting the most exciting baseball being played by MLB stars right now to be on Playstation.

I don't think it's fair to compare a pitcher to a hitter. A Gold Glove finalist I don't know, but he rated slightly below average as a fielder. I'm sure getting an 89 FOTF may have had something to do with it as well.

If the game ratings were based solely on last years stats then he would be diamond worthy but it’s supposed to be a three year average. And they dont use projections to determine ratings so it seems a little premature to throw the diamond label on him is all. High rated gold with a diamond upgrade later this year assuming he pitched at the same level would seem more appropriate
Chris Paddock being an 83 seems like projection.

He might be a diamond, but he plays like a bronze. Gives up dinger after dinger. Just like the game, he's garbage. So much so, he sits on my bench and I can't say that I've ever faced him, so I'm assuming others are doing the same or don't own him.

Just like everyone else - stats over past 3 years. And when you have a sub 1 ERA for over half the season I would say that’s diamond level.
