Ahh Yes, the Best Card in the Content Drop is Behind a Chase Pack….Again

@doobiebross66-72_PSN, yeah, I agree with you that that one is pretty drastic... I don't remember seeing a 93 with contact stats like that and 80+ power to boot.
I'm in a different place than you in terms of being okay with the business strategy behind it, but you're definitely not wrong that the attributes of the cards that cost stubs are better than the cards you grind for at this point in the gaming cycle.
I'd probably have to pull an Ohtani to sell before buying that anytime soon, but I wouldn't think twice if it was around 150K.

I love it. They overly balance cards like Chipper/Griffey/etc to be platoon guys, and then Chase Pack Willi Castro is an absolute stud because they lowered the non-gameplay stats and turned him into a Pay to win hero
There’s a reason they didn’t show off the chase pack card during the stream.
-
I don't care about that Willi Castro card in the slightest but I do have to say that making the inning bosses 92 overalls and not even making them the best cards released that day is a really bad look.
The inning bosses should not be outclassed so quickly.

Agree.
Even better, Willi is going to outclass a lot of cards upcoming in the next couple weeks.
I guess a positive is that for being a Chase card, it’s going to hold value for a very long time with his stats and swing

So if I were to have Willi Castro would I be considered a pay to play player? In full disclosure I don’t, but I do have Beltran and have had him for weeks. I could easily purchase Castro and not even worry about the stub cost. I also have spent a grand total of $150 on this game. $99 for the preorder and another hundred-$50 Xbox card I cashed my gamer points in on. The rest of my stubs were/are made by working the market on my app in my spare time. So back to my original question: does having a WC make you a pay to play player?

9 Chase packs already is a bit weird to me, we only have 12 headliners
And I know full well how good Castro's swing is from the BR card, but its a bit weird having a guy who has a career WAR of 4 and whose biggest strength is his versatility getting an incredible offfensive card with only 2 positions.
I just pretend the chase cards dont exist though, at least until they put Senga in one which i fully expect at some point

No. It doesn’t.
I have 0 issue with people who spend money on the game. Spend the money you earn how you like, idc
Again, the issue I have, is free to earn content is nerfed while SDS releases superior cards who are only obtainable by getting and opening a chase pack, or, spending stubs
There needs to be more of a balance.

Skill makes someone superior. Not a card.

I have plenty of problems with this year's game. Most have to do with gameplay. This is not one of the problems. All sports games do this and most are much worse at it. Both NBA2K and Madden will keep full programs behind a pay wall. Go to Madden right now and you will see Golden tickets, where you can only buy the packs with money. Or spend 3 Million+ credits to get. It's not worth it, because that's only for a chance to get one. Unless you spend a $100 you aren't guaranteed any GT card. F that! How much is the Chase Pack card?

Just because a other companies are more egregious or obnoxious with their monetization does not mean we should give SDS a pass.
Maybe I am a bit old school in my thinking but Boss Packs should be the pinnacle cards each inning, not cards that are getting replaced a week or two after they were released.

kind've kind've not...
will frosty beat me with pitchers hitting and I have the top overall team with clemens/randy/john D pitching? yes
I'm currently running PCA in CF for defense....if someone has beltran in CF instead. More than likely if we have equal input on 4 at bats in a game the beltran card is getting the better result.
So assuming the players are relatively even then someone going into a game with clemens vs clay bucholtz is going to def have an advantage
I'm not saying any matchup is going to be perfectly even but cards do have an impact.
I do actually have clemens and I feel pretty much 100% confident I'm going to win in ranked whenever he pitches

The boss cards for inning three are not that good. I haven’t played with any yet, but they aren’t exciting. I was more excited to get a Kiner in cornerstone than I am at unlocking the boss cards. Williams won’t start over Beltran, Reynolds, or Judge for me. Gagne is another right handed bullpen arm, and I can’t even remember who the third card is at this point.
I also think the chase cards are really nice. I don’t need everyone of them, and outside of reynolds, haven’t played with any of them. But I do like seeing who they are and if I feel the need to get one I will. As I stated above, I’m not nms, but after the initial investment in the game I don’t give sds anymore money. I know there are people who scorn buying cards to cash in on the upgrades of live series. But it is an avenue to build the team you want without spending money. I choose to take that path and save my money. I don’t scorn those who do spend money anymore than I do those who run out a team of golds and 85s.
But back to the initial discussion about Chase cards and bosses. I think the argument here shouldn’t be chase v boss. But rather it should focus on the boss cards themselves. And why is sds putting out such underwhelming bosses?
The chase cards

Has anyone even pulled a chase pack within a pack this year? I have not and I have pulled a lot of packs. So if you cant pull a chase pack outside of buying a bundle. And then the chase pack does not guarantee the chase card, supply is going to be non existent.
I did, pulled two and got gold cards ouf of both of them.

I hear you, and agree. The boss cards suck this year, and your use of "pinnacle" is completely accurate.
My response was more to any cards behind a pay wall. These Chase pack cards aren't. It might take work, but you can get them. Whether it's from getting pack lucky, flipping, or grinding forever for the stubs, you can get them. The other games make it so you can't.
That is the reason I bought a PS4: for this game. I stopped playing Madden until last year because MLBTS was so bad. Madden's money grubbing ways haven't changed, but their gameplay is solid. From my experience, when you are talking to anyone about one sports game, chances are they are playing more. I had an electrician over on Tuesday and he saw me playing MLBTS. We talked for twenty minutes about sports games. He plays all 4 of the big ones: MLBTS, MUT, FUT, and NBA2K. So equating one to the others is normal and should happen. They are competing for my money. I'm not going to say I won't buy MLBTS26, but I will probably be buying Madden and CFB. My faith in SDS is waning and I will find a substitute. Plus, I'm no longer a competitive player, so I don't care enough to spend money on any microtransactions.

The sums it up pretty awesome … The Boss Pack Players should have attributes that makes everybody strive for …. play the game, grind xp … get them, use them … I will not use them because they will not make my team better
