@chucky97___ The only thing that will affect people from the cover is the color scheme. Last years was awful. I wish they would do like in 2020 when whatever favorite team you chose was your color scheme.
Edit. Meant the Jazz cover color scheme.

I guess the cover is on your console so technically we all have it. It’s the tiny little image on the home bar. We just don’t have a physical cover if we are digital.

Matters in that they end up doing a lot of promotion for the game, so you’d want someone that most people like (or, at least, don’t actively hate) in order to pass those sentiments along to the game.
How much does it matter? Only the bean counters know.

@SaveFarris That makes it sound like people hate Jazz vs that Jazz hadn’t accomplished enough as a player to earn the cover.
I think his upbringing in the Bahamas got him the cover in contrast to the Negro Leagues being added got him the cover. Not the social media nonsense I said above. That is what you’d think from the Jeter hate off the posts.

It obviously does to SDS or they would not keep paying for one.
To those of us who will buy the game regardless, not so much. That being said I would still rather see a player worthy of the cover.
We not only have too see it on the game bar of our console but it is a splash screen every time you start the game. The Miami Vice color scheme of this year did nothing for me either.

About that— he is partnering w/Konami for their game. It's probable they got his cover rights which is the rumored reason Trout has never been on the Show cover

Why do people care so much about who is on the cover???? I can care less about who is on the cover. I want a good playing game and better and deeper franchise mode. It can be a blank cover and I'll still buy the game if the game play is awesome.

@orangepower75_PSN Because it’s the first step for the new game. Once that gets announced everything starts coming out about the new game.

But I've read comments after previous cover reveals where people were so mad that they weren't going to buy the game because of who was chosen to be on the cover. Why would anyone take it that serious? Its just absurd to me.

Nobody really takes those threats of a boycott over cover athlete serious.
Somebody will always be mad. Even if they put Acuna on the cover next year there would be a contingent of players saying that some other player was robbed.
Pretty much all of us will buy the game regardless of who is on the cover, but that does not mean that we have to like the cover. But since they will have a cover athlete and there is not much to discuss about the game at this point. It is fun to speculate.

Agree with @Dolenz_PSN take. I mean I got Jeter and I’m hardly a fan of his. I just wanted the PS5 and PS4 copy.

It really does not matter, but at this time of year it does generate interest. Maybe they could just design a logo for the game and use NO player and introduce every game as the show 20XX.
Either let the color scheme match your favorite team, or be an adjustable scheme if you don't like what colors they choose.

@darkblue1876_PSN That would work for me. I saw someone on here mention how COD had rotating logo during each of their season. Why don’t they just rotate the player during their in game seasons on that little logo on our console and put the World Series champs on the physical copy?

@fubar2k7 Or even just rotate images of cool moments in baseball during the year that the current version is for. Like the "in action" baseball cards of old. They would not even have to pony up extra money because the players are already paid for.

I think a Rangers MLB Allstar should be on the cover. Then call it the World Series allstar edition.
