I started DD this year and thought challenges were cool and stuff and now 100 hours deep im thinking what is the point? I use cards to build a team to do more challenges etc...I don't play online so I'm building a team for nothing and the challenges come at a pace where the casual gamer like me will never be able to complete them all so why am I doing this?

It's really gotten stale this year it just feels mindless this year and that's coming from someone that usually plays for 300+ hours annually since 17

That is the attitude I developed towards the start of the year. The first year I played was ‘21 and everyone says ‘21 had programs that were “too easy”, but they were a lot of fun and everything seemed to make sense. I worked towards things all year long and there were programs to complete all the time, but I was still able to use “my team” most of the time. This year I just feel like a robot playing the exact way I am told with the cards they tell me to use…rinse and repeat. I didn’t really watch the show, but I remember an episode of the TV show Lost where a guy had to put a series of numbers in a machine everyday at certain times. This game reminds me a lot of that. Which is why I play less and less each week.

So we are all Desmond/Mr Locke this year lol

Yup i can agree with that 100% great analogy

That seems to be the case 'brotha'

Good question, it's a huge time sink for a pretty stale gameplay experience.

More new legends MIGHT help, but we get 3-4 of the same cards over and over and that makes the game stale REAL quick. Where is the extra Microsoft and Nintendo money going if not to get more legends? Far too many great players over the years to not get their rights.

Can't you really say this about any game in general though? I think the point is to have fun. I am having fun with the game so I keep playing, but if you're not having fun playing any video game then you should probably just stop.

Sets/seasons this year has really made the grind feel less worthwhile than in the past. We're often grinding out programs for lesser versions of cards we've had for awhile but can no longer use.

    Yes.

Gameplay loops are gameplay loops. All games have them to some extent.

The main question is do you find the gameplay loop enjoyable.

I will say one thing for this game though, at least you know what you are working towards. As opposed to a game like Diablo 4 where you keep playing in hopes that some random drop with randomly generated stats makes you marginally stronger. In MLB the show you can look at the rewards and decide for yourself whether it is worth the grind before you start it.

I absolutely hate playing offline . Always have. I don't mind some grinding offline to get the Phillies cards I need for my TT but this years it's beyond stupid how much time you have to spend offline because of this expiring cards . I basically have to waste a ton of time to just get replacements Phillies cards I already have while getting a ton of cards I don't care about and adding insult to injury some of the cards are worse than the ones I had.

This set idea probably sounded good but it's had to have turned a lot of people away. I'm guessing the gameplay numbers have to be down.

Hopefully next year they remove it and go back to the way it was.

some of y'all go overboard with feeling like you are being forced to play a certain way... lol

here's a thought, go after the cards you want either by doing whatever program you have to do to get that card and/or buy the card off the marketplace if available there and then you can play with that card/those cards to your hearts content as long as the card(s) are eligible for the mode you want to play.

True but here's the catch; the cards most people want are hard to obtain so they are kind of "forced" to play through all that stuff. Collection rewards, extreme program, BR rewards, WS rewards and so on. You can buy the WS/BR reward players but not the other ones.

This is 100% the truth. The main card I have wanted this year is the JRam All-Star card, but I have to complete 89% of TA3 to accomplish that. I also wanted the 97 Nelson Cruz from the Icognito program, but I have told myself I am not making myself complete programs or collections if it becomes "work". So, I am definitely able to play with the cards I have from different places, but that doesn't really mean I get to play with the cards I want. I still have to jump through the SDS hoops to get the cards I most often want. I have no problem with buying cards in the market either. I really don't see how someone who has played DD in the past would not feel like we are "being forced to play a certain way" much more than in previous years.

So why not just play another game instead of whining on forums about this one? Guys cry all day online about this game like they are getting held up and in some cell at Guantanamo Bay being forced to grind for team affinity cards.

After years of Madden, I'm happy I get to still use the cards after completing the set. Any game is the same thing with new clothes. Heck, COD hasn't been much different in 25 years. Just new clothes. I love the game of baseball. This game brings it closer to me. Building my team with my favorite players? Awesome. It also adds history. Before the NBL program, which is great, we got players like Honus Wagner. Heard the name, Knew the card value, but didn't know a thing about him. After enjoying his play, I looked him up online. Now I know more about him and really appreciate his role in baseball history. There is so much more than Babe Ruth and I love discovering it. DD makes that possible.
