Expiring Cards is absolutely ridiculous

Well...some people (cough cough) were telling everyone this was nothing more then a "money grab" from the jump.
"SDS would never do that!" was a very common response.
Look...I get it, they want to make more money.
But...don't pee on my head and tell me it's raining.
Maybe the WORST part of it was having to hear the fanboys and shills try to explain how that wasn't the case and that this was going to make the mode better.
It was funny how they tried to say this was all about getting "more lineup variety"...as if SDS actually cares that everyone uses the SAME lineups.
This was about creating a constant demand for OP'd cards, while limiting the supply of those cards so that players who want the best, newest, shiniest cards will have to eventually fork over some money and buy some Stubs for them.
They know based on their numbers who will buy Stubs and when they will buy them. They know what players will NEVER buy Stubs...and they know which players will ALWAYS buy them...especially the one's who buy them to create content...so that they can get views...so that they can make money.
That's why they had to throw Streamers a bone with the No Sell Battle Royale rewards.
SDS knows that in the long run, Streamers are some of their BEST customers...because they are basically using YouTube ad revenue to buy Stubs.
The Streamers will love it too because it gives them even more new cards to create videos about.
Remember that last part when you start seeing Streamers make videos telling you how AWESOME this new way of doing things is...
Don't forget that they have a vested, monetary interest in telling you it's a GOOD thing.

What an amazing breakdown @BrikMahorn_XBL
Bravo sir… and yes that thought def crossed my mind yesterday. They are doing this to appease streams/content creators which is a shame because they are the few of the community not the majority

I think the expiring cards thing is absolutely insane- didn’t really think about it when the game first released but now that we are getting closer to to season 3 and set 1 cards won’t be useable I really feel cheated
I spent money/stubs on some of these cards they’re my property. I’ve built their averages up and I want to continue to use them and decide on my own if I want to replace them or not
Imagine going to footlocker spending money and buying 3 pairs of sneakers and the manager comes out and says- “thank you for your purchase, you can only wear the brown sneakers for a month and then you have to burn them”
like this makes no sense
Just sell your set 1 cards and buy the new ones. Think of it as going to Footlocker and getting the new Jordans, only to find out a months later that there is a way cooler version that just came out. You go back to Footlocker and exchange the "old" Jordans for the newer ones. Problem solved.
Now if you locked in your expensive Set 1 cards, that's on you bud. Think of that as taking your new Jordans on a hike through a swamp. Can't help you there.

I have no idea in regards to that bc sds has not said anything at all about what’s going to happen with those cards.
How do you know you won’t need those cards in the future for a big collection?
And most people locked in most of their cards from Set 1 to get chipper, babe, Pedro.
Appreciate your tongue in cheek response but it’s not really a viable option as set 1 cards aren’t nearly as much as they were previously- except for a few.
You want me to sell 99 Griffey to buy a new 99 Griffey and that’s what I’m m saying is absolutely laughable about this whole process

Lol well what do ya know- they just announced a 97 Santana releasing tomorrow after releasing a 95 Santana a couple weeks ago lol

I just have to laugh at this point. I have yet to see anything in this game that truly makes logical sense to me this year. The entire game just feels like the Set 1 and Set 2 binders to me with a bunch of random stuff just thrown in there.

The main issue I have is with people who say that they have no problem with it because there will be a lot of great other cards coming out to make up for it. A lot of these people only play online and only play with specific cards so they aren’t going to care. However, if there are people out there who got on people for complaining about the sets and now will be complaining themselves, that’s their issue. I don’t have sympathy for hypocrites.
People like me will be completely screwed. I play a lot of team build teams from one team from TA. Who wants to use a bunch of live series Tigers?

Yea this is beyond strange- well at least to me it is because the show is the only game I play. But according to others the show is just following suit of other games like madden etc etc
I’m just kinda wiping my hands with it and I’ll see what happens in July with the cards I’ve acquired
I’m just going to play ranked until then and if I don’t have a good enough team to compete in July because they’ve taken away my cards then I’ll just find another hobby I guess
Sucks because I really do enjoy the show and baseball but it’s outta my hands now

Nope, don't know anything for sure, just offering a simple solution. I'm one of those people that competed the set 1 collection with the majority being No sell cards you get for playing the game and the rest were cards close to QS value. It is definitely viable.
If you don't want to sell your 99 Griffey then don't. Use him as your wild slot until the better 99 Griffey comes along. Sell him then. Every year there are multiple cards for players. Last year think Smoltz had like 5 or something (Or was that 21). I really don't understand what the issue is here.

You can use them the rest of the year in the wild card slot and as a Braves fan, Chipper is my guy. So yeah, it was worth the grind to have that card to play with for the rest of the year.
In any case, I was just trying to offer you a solution, but you clearly do not want to hear it and prefer to stand pat in your bitterness (while you LOL obsessively).

My gripe is very clearly written out in the OP
This game has turned into a money grab because they release cards that are only obtainable thru buying packs or buying the card outright
And then they tell you when you can’t and can use it.
That makes no sense- and on top of that you have to do tons of hours to grind for collections cards that, what for it, they tell when you can or cannot use them
Sds was NEVER like this
And if you’re ok with it then you’ll be ok when sds is just like madden or 2k come next year or the year after
You enjoy yourself and your day- I hope the sds check is worth it
Bc you must be getting paid to be so obtuse to not see why people would have an issue with this
I mean just look at this thread- it’s 80+ comments and the majority are overwhelmingly in agreement with me
But I guess you’re the outlier- peace

That is not the point. He, like many others, thinks that if you grind many hours for a card, or even spend stubs on one, then those cards that you earned should not expire. This is not about grinding or getting free cards. This is about having a card that you earned, being deemed basically useless.

They don't really "expire" and you don't have to "burn" them like in the analogy you used. You just can't use them in modes where Set 1 cards are not eligible. You can still use them in other modes where Set 1 cards are eligible, or you can use one as your wild card in any mode.

Which majority of people do in this game
I absolutely hate playing against the computer- I play one game of mini seasons on HOF to get warmed up and then it’s online play for me(mostly co-op ranked and regular ranked
i hope set 3 has some bangers because Set two has been overall very disappointing when it comes to batters.

Because you would still have to grind for the newer cards that are realized but you’d also get to carry over 3 cards that you absolutely love
Just imagine a person has played the game enough to get chipper, babe and Pedro. They literally can only use one of those cards going forward- that’s bizarre especially how heavy the grind was to obtain those set one collection cards

@Ericulous1_PSN said in Expiring Cards is absolutely ridiculous:
I get everyone’s frustration but I said this before and I’ll say it again- this game is being treated as 6 mini cycles. Instead of one long slow grind- we get 6 quickies (TWSS). If they waited to tell us these cards wouldn’t be useable until it was too late, that would be absurd. But it’s been written for months. Any of you spending money/stubs certainly didn’t have to if you thought it was unfair. there are so many solid cards that are free. I haven’t spent a dime other than the $100 to buy the game and I have a tons of solid 99s that are end game. Yes, I flip. They gave me that option and I took it.
Do I like this model? yes and no. I wish we had a happy medium. Maybe no sets and seasons and dozens of end game 99s from day 1. But I definitely got tired of grinding for cards that were trumped by better cards the min you got them. I’ll use guys like Chipper all year.
“But you can’t, they expire!” not for me, I’d rather get a root canal than only play online. Offline is how I enjoy my games or a league with friends. I love when someone says the majority of players play online. How do you know? Most of the people I know either prefer offline or like both.
Anyway, I’d also like to point out that sets 4-6 are probably really short time periods or with be overloaded with insane cards like the end game always is.
6 mini cycles where their goal is to get you to spend as many stubs as they can get from you.
And they do expire for you. I also play offline only. If you want to do any Season 3 or beyond conquest maps or mini seasons then those cards will essentially be expired for that content. You would be relegated to re-running Season 1 and 2 conquest maps or the US map.
All I know is that when July 7th comes around, if my Cardinal Theme team is gutted because I am using so many good Set 1 cards (Walker, Edmonds, Smith, WBC Arenado and Goldschmidt and Nootbaar, Charisma Edman, Captain Wainwright, Gibson, Lee Smith), many of whom will have multiple Parallel levels, then I am more than likely done at that point.
I get what you’re saying. But honestly there are so many more cards this year than years previous. So if your goal is to collect every card (which is usually my goal), then yeah you’ll be spending stubs. If you just want a solid team, there will be plenty of options. Personally, I use program pxp guys for mini seasons and conquest and otherwise I just play straight up against cpu. I’m sure that’s boring for most, but I still enjoy it.
Also, I’d point out that TA Mini Seasons you already can’t use a bunch of the cards. No Charisma, no WBC, no specialty like Finest, Award, etc. it’s basically intended to use the cards from Captain, LS and whatever that TA is. Standard MS you can you any cards all year.

It's not. I have no delusions of collecting every card. I don't play enough for that to even be an option. I just want the best Cardinals team that I can put together.
As I said, I like to use my Cardinals theme team. It is something I do every year. It is what I enjoy doing. So, while I know I will have plenty of cards to replace expiring Cardinal Set 1 players with, the question is will I have enough new Cardinal cards to replace the old ones. That will be the question I ask myself on July 7th. If the answer is "No" or even if the answer is "Yes, but it will cost you hundreds of thousands of stubs." then I will most likely stop any semblance of regular play.

That makes sense of course. Honestly, I agree with a lot of people, I think this was a good idea in theory but as it plays out, it may end up turning a lot of people off. I for one of course hope it works out because I not only want to enjoy the game, but I like when the community is into it as well. Not like I want to evangelize and make everyone like it, there are aspects that drive me insane. I hope they have a plan and they don’t have to pivot on July 7th because a ton of people drop off.
