You don't ever see pro players freeze for a few seconds, on a ball of the bat, and then run after it. Also, I don't play players out of position, but I do watch a lot of streamers who do this for fun. You could take any MLB player and throw him at 1st and he isn't dropping anything that hits him right in the glove. Same if you put any of them at catcher. They might not block every ball, have good POP times, etc. but they aren't missing balls that hit them right in the glove.
I understand there needs to be a penalty for playing out of position, but some of it is a little out of control.

I don’t know… I see what you’re saying, but it has to be exaggerated in a game. I also think that there are bad major league outfielders who freeze before committing; I remember watching Ben Grieve from the seats in Oakland, and he got some of the worst reads I’ve ever seen. I don’t know, you almost have to see them in person, because a broadcast is still on the batter when a bad fielder is stuck to the grass, trying to sort themselves out. But yes, I agree that it doesn’t happen every time.
The first base thing is over the top, but pretty sure that’s designed that way to severely penalize people trying to stash an otherworldly bat at first to stack their lineup.

Then how does the game differentiate these two players
Player 1
95 Fld
90 React
99 SpeedPlayer 2
65 Fld
70 React
99 Speed.Without some artificial method, like a slight pause, these two players are essentially equal and will get to all of the same batted balls.
As for out of position players, if the game did not penalize them enough to make it risky to do so then people would just load their lineup with the best hitters, position and fielding be damned.

Yeah this isn’t true at all. Have you ever seen Juan Soto play defense? That dude can’t read a fly all to save his life. He freezes on most balls hit in his direction. I watched a game recently where he froze on a flyball and it caused him to have to dive for the ball which he amazingly caught. The stat cast on the ball hit was 90 percent catch probability. Guess what, just about every routine fly out has a 90 percent catch probability that 10 percent who don’t catch the ball are getting a bad jump (Juan Soto) or flat out dropping the ball. Also using the catcher position to make your point is a bad position to use. If you’ve never caught, and based on your post I’m guessing you’ve never caught, it’s not that easy. I’ve seen plenty of people try that position and and couldn’t catch the ball with a hitter standing in the box because there is a whole lot more going on then just catching the ball. You have to deal with swings and misses, foul tips, wild pitches. That is a truly skilled position that takes a different kind of person to be good at it. Yea the game has to be dramatic to prevent people from being rewarded for playing players out of position. That’s why you see some silly animations but to make the statement that people don’t do that in real life is not quite right either.

I played the 5 and 1 positions, mainly. However, I did fill in at the 2 on occasion, and for anyone half-way baseball gifted, it's not that big of a deal. Again, MLB players are not going to have the finer intricacies down, but they won't look like 8U players out there, either. Balls will not be flying out of their mitt on every pitch.

Ok bud, really not looking to get into an argument. I played the game as well at a relatively high level and saw with my own eyes how difficult that position can be. Not everyone can pick up that position like you describe. That’s all I’m going to say.

I wish LS cards were more usable in competitive gameplay. However, the Vision, Reaction, arm Accuracy or Strength, Speed, etc. on many of these cards are ridiculouly nerfed. I agree with OP.

thew game has to simulate poor defense somehow. It is annoying to me when they freeze as well but it gives value to fielding stats. Also if the OOP player at 1B or C caught everything then no one would use a true catcher, they would put the best possible hitter they could in those two slots, thus negating the point of positions. (see past show games) at one point you could put whoever you wanted at C, 2B and 1B and have little to no penalty

It's pretty laughable that anyone thinks that some random major league player could just jump behind the plate and just catch everything. There might be some yes, and if there is no batter and not in a game then more than likely yes but in a game, batter swinging and all that's going on, no shot a high number are doing well.

You add the catch button and user input needed for it that’s been missing for almost a decade….Then like I dunno, base it off their attributes like they do with the other parts of baseball. Hitting, throwing, those things.

You clearly missed Joc Pederson trying to play first for the Dodgers in 2019.
