I will definitely not see 2632 broken in my lifetime since it will take 17 full 162-game seasons to overcome that record.
And the way organizations treat and train their players today, they made sure it will never be broken again.
You are correct sir! There are numerous records that will never be broken. Ripken, consecutive games played. DiMaggio hitting streak. Ryan 5700 strikeouts. Rose/Ichiro (however you look at it) all time hits. Iโm 99% sure no one will ever hit .400 again and Iโm 100% sure no one will win 300 games again. Nobody will sniff Bonds walks recordโฆ.both single season and career.
Very true! However, with all that said, the hardest one to break is going to be Ripkens. The man is God like to go that long without missing one game and staying healthy the entire time.
Especially when you consider that the only two players to play all 162 games last year were Marcus Semien and Whit Merrifield and it looks like both have missed game(s) this season.
Here comes the homer in me. With their next start Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina tie the all time MLB record for most starts by a battery with 324. That will tie Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan who set the record in 1975. Considering that the record has stood for 47 years and the fact that both a pitcher and catcher staying with the same club for well over a decade rarely, if ever, happens anymore means that I don't see the new record they set (whatever number they end up at) being broken again.

Well look at the extreme conquest and Moments this year. Clearly not much faith in the skill of its player base. Probably rightfully so looking at this forum daily.
If it makes you feel better I hit an Oppo dong in mine.

Hahaha! Yes, I'm not surprised!
But, did you hit in the 4th inning?
I tried very hard to get it in the fourth inning, but instead I hit a weak groundball up the middle in some other inning. I suck!

That is a great example. Henderson stole over 100 bases several times in his career! Itโs a different game now, nobody even gets close anymore.

Henderson's 130 stolen bases in a career as well as his lifetime total because it's now a big deal when someone steals 30 in a season.

I used to love watching him and Vince Coleman in the 80s. Those 2 were on another level stealing bases. Now 30 steals is elite. Game has changed a lot for sure

I think when they get rid of the shift, you'll see higher batting averages. That's about the only one I see as possibly happening again. The rest, no way.

The shift has almost no impact on hitting for average compared to the fact that every batter is trying to hit every pitch 500 feet. That's why you have guys like Bellinger and Gallo with anemic batting averages with 20 homers in a season. The "close eyes, swing real hard" method, combined with the garbage theory of "launch angle" has ruined baseball.

I agree with you sir! I truly believe the shift has very little to do with dismal batting averages. It has more to do with as you say โclose youโre eyes and hope for the bestโ. Unfortunately teams pay for home runs, not batting averages.

The crazy thing is Ripken wasnโt healthy the whole time. There was one year he played on a sprained ankle that was so bad he could barely walk. Teams are far more responsible with their investments these days.

Unless there's a catastrophic shift in the way the game is played this is correct. Nobody can stay healthy to play every game anymore, at least not many. Players strike out ALOT!!! so a batting average over .300 means you're in a small percentile. Even the Nolan Ryan strikeout record, there are so many pitchers who can get to the 6th inning and that's it. What kills me about this is players nowadays are supposedly superior athletes but they can't seem to handle the same rigors that the players of the past could.

You don't have to take my word for it. You can see his game logs on baseball reference for all the times he was pulled early. The streak would have ended on August 7, 1989 if the Orioles hadn't manipulated it. You can look it up.
