I'm not 100% sure if ts for all cards, but I think they use the topps card from whatever year that card represents.

Like the Jason Giambi is a 2002 All Star card, and the card art is his 2002 Topps card

I get that but it is not like 2002 was his only good year. 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 where all solid years for him, just pick one of those. I also feel like the stats on the cards this year are arbitrary. So just pick a different year and give him whatever stats you want. Maybe they are trying to keep early cards from being too op.

Because the devs prioritize things like making a "Switch" version & photoshopping the word "indians" off uniforms instead of details like updating old card art. There is limited hours in the day, and id argue they didnt make the best use of them this year....

made weird this offends people, the guy who founded the indians was a full blooded indian. its really really wild to me that soft candy (you know what) are ruining history.

Interesting, but black people once referred to themselves as Negroes, too. Acceptability in language changes. Not a bit deal. Just wish they would rebrand a bit more creatively....

If it weren't for the Major League movie, nobody would know about the Indians

These are all great theories but they’re all BS! SDS does whatever they want with the attributes. They change the attributes as they see fit. Not every time, not every year and not with every card……but they do it. For example, Johnny Damon. In years past that card has been very powerful vs right and with good speed. This year, not so much. They do whatever they want.

Thats what Im saying. They make the attributes whatever they want so it really does not matter what card art they use. So just go ahead and give us new card art.

Because Topps design pre-Score/Upper Deck era was on average pretty bad. Yeah, everybody loves the 87 wood panel design, but 9 times out of 10 it’s an ugly design of players in a Spring Training uni.

Also, you’re locked in to certain years for players. Gwynn’s got a 1999 card but he kind of stank that year so no one would want to use it.

shoot, the current 2022 Topps card design is bland too. also Bowman has seemed to look the exact same each year for several years. They need to start using the Topps Stadium Club, Sterling or Inception etc for some of the card art

Switch version is the meta for all forms of play. It’s almost too easy.

Why does SDS use the same cards year to year? Tony Gwynn, Orel, Giambi, etc. They have the rights to the whole topps catalogue, why not change it up year to year. Im assuming they just scan in the image of the card and then put a skin on it (All Star, Veteran, Rookie, etc). For the older guys, I know they might not have a lot of pics to choose from, but those guys from the 80s and 90s have like a dozen different cards to choose from from each individual player. I know it is kind of a little thing but I feel like Im playing last years version of the game with the cards looking the same each year.

Its to make you post stupid questions like this to a forum full of people who will flame you for asking this when you already should know its cause the rights to certain cards are retained specifically for this purpose
