Thrse guys (all of them) clearly forgot how DEAD baseball was following the last work stoppage. They have a great thing going right now with some remarkably exciting young players and teams yet here we are.
It took steroids for ppl to care about baseball after 95. What will they turn to this time to revive it?
Change the baseball to a blern.
obscure futurama reference??

F MLB and the MLBPA. They don’t give two turds about us.
-
They do own the manufacturing of baseballs, even admitted to using two different balls last year. Hmmm I see a big jump in home runs when they do play again. And yes both sides are greedy dumb asses willing to sacrifice the game for money.
It's just as stupid that it's almost impossible to watch my team play on tv with local games getting blacked out and hard to find on any streaming service. Yet the most popular sport football is free every Sunday on local tv. -

We are definitely the losers of this entire thing.

We are. Along with all the folks on the periphery... Stadium workers and vendors, restaurant and bar owners, etc.

I can’t justify getting cable to just watch the O’s. I sound old but I remember when the O’s were on local TV in Baltimore.

I'm all in as long as Reel Big Fish plays at the games, or another late 90's Ska band. Goldfinger would also be acceptable.

It's hard to have sympathy for either side. I know the owners are greedy but when a guys in their early 20's are making the league minimum, which is over a half million dollars, it is hard to empathize with them.
Let's look at Max Scherzer's most recent twitter post
"We want a system where threshold and penalties don’t function as caps, allows younger players to realize more of their market value, makes service time manipulation a thing of the past, and eliminate tanking as a winning strategy."
Let me ask a question then if there is no cap or penalties then how does that make the game more competitive? The big market teams will just spend ridiculous amounts of money and get all of the talent while small market teams are left to flounder. Isn't that why they tank now because they can't compete with teams that spend 200 million plus, like the Dodgers, Mets and Yankees? If young players hit free agency sooner then the best ones will all just gravitate to the big spenders.
Seems like what the players are pushing for will just widen the gap between the top tier teams and the bottom tier teams.
I am not pulling for the owners either but Max's statement just seems like it would cause more issues.

Dude every team can carry a 150m roster and most others can exceed the luxury tax.

Well, I can't pretend to know what teams can or can't afford. There are just way to many factors that I know nothing about. But even if every team can carry a 150 million payroll then would that make them even competitive when big teams like the Dodgers can spend 300 million or more without penalties?
Will it help them keep homegrown talent when those big market teams will always throw more money at the best free agents?
I just don't believe that removing penalties for exceeding the threshold will help small market teams become competitive.
-
You're not wrong, but I believe these teams choose to be small market teams and would rather pocket the cash or spend it elsewhere.
What MLB needs is a salary floor or compensation for just missing out on the playoffs. I love the idea of a draft lottery for picks 1-5 where the first 4 teams (2 in each league) get a draft pick for being on the cusp. The 5th pick should go to the team that made it with the worst season record.
-
So there has never been a season canceled due to a strike or lockout. In 94 the post season was canceled due to a strike but that was because they decided to strike in August as opposed to being locked like this year in December. There will be baseball that much I can say. How much, that remains to be seen. But the owners, as always, are the jacka s s e s who want to keep all the money and not pay the players. The value of teams keeps going up yet the share of revenue the players receive is stagnant. If you’re a player you are basically an indentured servant until you breakout. Most players in the minor leagues don’t even receive minimum wage for their services. That’s obnoxious with how much revenue these teams make not just from the product on the field but from advertising, ticket sales, parking and concessions and merchandising. Most players in the Minor leagues don’t even have adequate health care or dental coverage. This is a real problem and the players union is 100% right to expect a modicum of decency when it comes to basic necessities. If I’m the players I wouldn’t budge one inch and force these greedy billionaires to pony up. And also force the owners to get rid of Rob Manfred who is one the worst commissioners in baseball history but heck baseball hasn’t had a decent commissioner since Peter Uberoth.

If you guys don’t believe me that the owners are not the problems, here is a sobering story about what it’s like to be a minor leaguer!!! The owners should be ashamed of themselves. Just because we have guys out there making tens of millions that doesn’t even begin to offset the the tens of thousands of minor leaguers who suffer from the abuses of unchecked power by the owners. This work stoppage should not end until this situation is sorted out. There are too many valuable lives being affected by ownership greed and malfeasance. I’m sorry but I’m passionate about this having first hand knowledge of this as a child of a career minor leaguer. And before you call me some woke nut job I’m a capitalist not a communist. What is going on here is not capitalism this is the epitome of a monopoly and maybe congress should strip MLB of their antitrust exemption to level the playing field.
-
I just really don't want the season to be cancelled or shortened. Wainwright and Molina have a chance to break an all time record that has stood since 1975. One that most likely will not be broken again thanks to free agency and the way players move from team to team these days
They need 20 starts together in what will most likely be their final seasons to amass 325 starts together which would give them the record for most starts as a battery. But to do that they both need to stay healthy and have a full season to accomplish it.

I don't think anyone is arguing you against the owners. I feel pretty much every baseball fan is pro-player anti-owner.
Yeah I remember hearing about the food they would provide in the As minor system and it was literally a couple pieces of bread with a tiny piece of meat and a slice of cheese. This is imo where the league minimum needs to be, minimum 100k/season if you're in any part of the MLB farm system. Players making less than minimum wage is just dumb
