I just got mlb the show 21 a few days ago and I love it, the only problem is that I can’t find Ty Cobb on the mid century groundbreakers team. Does anybody know if he is still in the game or if he was taken out, then why?
BLM
Thats not why he was taken out. They just lost his rights

If you say so

Ya they took his rights out. You can check in the legends pool.

BLM
Ya know, that actually sounds like a reasonable explanation. Real pity that Cobb isn't still in the game; he more than earned the right.

I don't have any facts but I really believe that is why

It could very well be.

I’m not sure if BLM is the reason but there is plenty of internet content showing that Ty Cobb was absolutely unfairly tarnished. He wasn’t perfect, an asshole even, but a vicious brutal racist he was not.
-
I agree with you. I have read and watched a good deal about him and it does seem that he had some issues. But he was not nearly S bad as everyone thinks. It’s probably Ken Burns’ fault even though his documentary was otherwise perfect.

BLM
They did indeed lick much BLM posterior last year.

I don't know why Cobb is not in the game this year (and nobody else here does either) but it says a lot that many are willing to just automatically believe the most conspiratorial, negative reason and place blame without any valid evidence to back them up.

Al Stump did the most damage. Most of his stories were wildly exaggerated and some were fabricated completely. Ken Burns took this garbage and combined it with the fact that Cobb was much disliked by his contemporaries to create a racist bogeyman.

When you make Jackie the hero, someone has to be the villain. (Not that Jackie WASN’T a hero, but storytelling 101 demands a formidable opposing force and “society writ large” isn’t cinematically filmable.)

And it's sad to see, too. Because Cobb probably got in his fair share of spats with players and spectators alike, and played dirty (though a lot of the stuff that is considered dirty today wasn't against the rules back then) he wasn't a racist.
In fact, he SUPPORTED racial integration in baseball, and there's even a picture of him giving hitting tips to Hank Aaron.

I freely admit, I don't know enough about the man's personal history but I have a biography about him which is supposed to be well crafted and fairly objective and this thread has inspired me to pick it up......now.

Don't read it if it has the name "Stump" on it. That's the man who ruined Cobb's reputation and legacy.

Nope, not that one. This book is by Charles Leerhsen called: Ty Cobb a Terrible Beauty. It wom the Casey award for best baseball book of the year in 2015 and is supposedly the gold standard of baseball biographies. Along with Jane Leavy's books on Babe, Koufax and Mantle.
It's described as debunking the myths about Cobb so I believe it gives a fair portrayal.
