I think we can safely say that the MLB playoffs start tonight because that's what the next week will be is playoff level baseball. Teams like the O's will want to play hard as their world series would be to eliminate a team. They did it to Boston in 2011.

The last week of the season has been the M's playoffs for the past 20 years!

The Dodgers have the 2nd best record in MLB and it is ridiculous that their entire season may come down to a single playoff game. Playoff seeding should be based on record, not division standing.

Well, it used to be second place teams didn't have a chance in playoffs regardless of records!

The M's always seem to surprise, I did not expect this team to compete for another 2/3 years so whatever happens this week it's a win for them in my opinion. The team in 2001 that won 116 with no superstars other then Ichiro who was a rookie is another example.

2016 was fun, until they lost game #163!

It used to be only the two teams with the best record in in the AL vs. NL. So I think divisions are important. Plus, that’s mostly who you play.

You and me both. We went from one of the better records in the league, to now just hoping we can finish the season above .500. Been a very disappointing couple of months.

Yes, before 1995. It is the addition of a second Wild Card team added in 2012, that makes them only be able to have one game. Without that additional WC team, they would at least have a five game series, which would be more appropriate.

The A's second half collapse has killed my interest in watching baseball for the year. I'm fully focused on football, where the 49ers hopefully won't be so disappointing.

Losing Scherzer and then seeing the Dodgers get both him and Turner seemed to deflate them and they never really recovered. All the injuries to Tatis didn't help.

Yeah, I hear that. What a depressing and pathetic end to what started as a great season.

Let's hope Jayce Tingler is gone and there is some overhaul in staff. There is no excuse for them playing this badly.

Today was a good day for M's fans! BoSox, Jays, and A's lose! M's now a 1/2 game behind the BoSox for the second AL WC spot with 4 games left! A's all but mathematically eliminated (3.5 behind BoSox with 4 games left and BoSox has 5 games left)!

The scenarios they were drawing up for the potential four way tie for the AL Wild Card is insane, although unlikely to happen.

As a Jays fan I’m enjoying this great baseball while also slowly losing my sanity. Whatever happens I think this team will be a legit threat in the coming years. Fingers crossed we can resign Semien and Ray, ownership has the money!

This off season is like to see one more 3-5 starter, a reliable bullpen arm, preferably a lefty to compliment Mayza and a everyday 3B. I like Espinal but I think he’s better served as a bench/utility player.

There is actually a 5-way tie scenario too, but it requires Baltimore to win 4 out of 6, so while statistically possible, realistically impossible

Jays fan here too...we've shown we can keep up with the Yankees and even put the screws to them. However right now, we are only a game back of Boston. Let Seattle take their run at the Yanks, and maybe we'll sneak in over Boston. Just think of it this way: two off nights for boston, and two decent nights for us and we're up a game. Personally I think we stack better against Seattle than New York.
As for the off season...I think they should have a nice long talk with Bichette about shifting to the 2 bag..he's a great young player but his arm leaves something to be desired. There's a few good SS out there this off season(Correa, Javy Baez, Trevor Story), and that's only if we can't nail down Semien.
Even 3B class looks good with Nolan Arenado and Krys Bryant. There's plenty of 3-5 rotations guys too like Stroman, Alex Cobb...or if they're feeling bold enough(not a 3-5, but a 1-2) in Max Scherzer.
I'd much rather they address pitching first...and then drive Semien to the bank, but like you said...it's gonna be fun to watch this team over the next decade

Problem this year hasn’t been the starting pitching, it’s been the bullpen. We have one of the worst bullpens in the league. We’re in the negative in both extra innings and 1 run games. The problem this year has never been the offense or the starting rotation. The bullpen needs to be beefed up big time

If the Dodger can not jump the Giants, I hope they pitch Max Scherzer in the WC game vs STL. STL could have a losing record and i would not want to face they in the playoffs as a dodger fan,

With all the money they spent? Crazy.

Of course, being in the most competitive division in baseball doesn't help but to add all that and still not have nearly the level of talent as the Dodgers is disgusting.
