So here's my perspective, I used to have Play Station for the early years of the show and loved RTTS. My brother ended up taking the Play Station and I ended up with Xbox and hadn't played a legit baseball game since MVP. When I was able to get The show on xbox this year, nostalgia kicked in and it brought me back to when I was playing Tony LaRussa on PC, MLBPA on Genesis, Ken Griffey on N64 and then the All-Star & MVP baseball series later on, where I'd create myself and live out my dream of playing CF for the yanks. The first couple months of the show I did nothing but play RTTS, I was never big on online gaming and deadset that I was just going to play for my own enjoyment. After a couple of season of RTTS though I got bored, I started playing on beginner and rookie and just put up ridiculous stats with my player and started craving a challenge. Once I opened up DD and messed with the CPU missions enough to get my timing and patience down I started messing around playing Battle Royale and Ranked. I've been hooked since. Playing online is obviously a bit different experience and players exploit the game in ways that baseball wouldn't really be played but once you become good enough at hitting and pitching where you can get over those annoyances there's nothing better. For every inning program I go through waves of just CPU missions and then back to events or BR. I think it's the best way to keep the game from getting stale. Just my two cents but the game is meant for personal enjoyment. Nobody should be knocking anyone on their preferred play style, I'm just giving perspective to those who only play offline, once you mess around and play a few ranked or event games your perspective may change.

I seen a lot of posts of "oh I only play offline, and how can this program be done offline..."
I just don't get this concept. DD is meant to be online. I don't play RS often but do dive into BR and def a lot of Events.
If you are playing offline, what's the fun? to get a better team to beat the same missions, conquest or vs CPU all over again???
I'm just not understanding playing ONLY offline and never wanting to play vs people even if it can be toxic players online ie bunt dances pausing etc. For the most part the players you face online play fair and it's really not hard to get some wins in an event or stats to complete the programs.
Agreed, only playing offline is just wimpy. Like sitting down to pee
It’s not wimpy. There are reasons for why people choose to play only offline. I don’t have time that I can dedicate to play a game without interruptions. I use a TV with bad input lag so I don’t feel like getting destroyed every game because I’m going to be spammed fastballs knowing I can’t keep up. Also, I don’t care to play against other people. I play video games to relax and not have to deal with cheesers that use every exploit possible.
Get a monitor and play events.

And insulting offline players, like you are somehow a superior person because you play online, is a sign of someone with low self esteem.

I’d rather play on my 55” tv while on my comfy sofa than sit in a chair and play on a small monitor. I already have to do that for work. I don’t want to do that after work.

The OP must think everyone is the same.
I don't like shaved poozy, but don't go asking why do people like that over bushy ones.
Offline is still fun and there's a lot to do thanks to Parallels.
The AI will drive you nuts, but it's still satisfying.
Remember this one MAJOR point.
A lot of us started gaming when there was no online until around 1999 with NFL 2K on the Dreamcast.
Offline gaming is our roots, so some of us stick to them.
I would definitely wanna go get a beer with you if this was in person. -
I played online in the past. I wasn’t very good, but more importantly to me I hated the $&&$holes I encountered doing it. I have played exclusively offline the past few years and I enjoy it. I collect all of the cards every year and use them all against the CPU and have a blast doing it. And like others have said I can play when I want, pause for as long as I want, and get reasonably consistent gameplay. I don’t feel like I am missing out on anything.
-
OK...so I have been thinking about all this offline/online stuff lately. Like I have mentioned I am someone who more preferred offline, but has started playing more and more online for different reasons.
Does anyone know why there is not an offline season mode for DD? Having that mode would not cause me to spend less stubs than I do now...but I guess maybe it could for others? I just know this...I played an "Extra Innings" game yesterday and it was probably the most fun I have had playing in a long time.
-
I play DD because of the Legends. Same with Madden and MUT. I play MUT offline because of the Legends.
Can't use the Legends in other modes (I don't believe)

You don't have to understand though. People who enjoy playing baseball simulators are not always as good as you are. Some people have little tolerance for knuckleheads online. I have serious post concussion issues, working memory loss, and extremely poor hand eye coordination. I still like baseball and would like to play the game. In my case, if can't get a card because I would have to play an online game or on all star, then I just won't get the card. There are plenty of other ones out there for me to get. I learned to flip cards, which I actually like doing, to get players I want that couldn't win in events. We all have different abilities, but can find a way to enjoy the game.

When I’m dead tired and need to take a whiz in the middle of the night, I’ve never once thought to myself, “It’ll be wimpy if I sit down and pee.” That’s what a severely insecure and fragile guy would think.

If the DD H2H RS gaming experience was better, then I would play online more. But I have avoided online RS for a while, mostly due to the laggy/warping pitches found in many online matches (why is this?). This is in addition the the bunt dancers, rage quitters, pause boys, etc...
I agree that DD is ultimately meant to be played in H2H RS, so I plan to do that, I just do not look forward to the frustration that comes with it. I still enjoy grinding and collecting cards, for now. I will eventually play BR for a bit before jumping into RS, just to get my timing down... as offline vs CPU plays nothing like online H2H.

You do realize that computer games were at one time only offline and gasp people still enjoyed playing them? You think Pac-Man and Space Invaders were played online?
I find playing offline less stressful and I still enjoy building a team and hitting bombs with that team. I don't complain either way... I love that the game gives us opportunities to build a team using both online and offline.
But don't tell me which way I should enjoy playing.

Get a better team to beat the same AI teams, conquests, etc. How is that any different than getting a better team to face the same lineups and either Cabrera or deGrom every game?
I dabble in online occasionally but I stick mainly to offline or unranked matches against friends. People can play how they want, I don’t see people getting ragged on for being strictly a franchise or RttS player.

The OP was most likely not referring to RTTS or Franchise mode players. He was wondering why someone would spend so much time in DD, collecting cards, and not use them in online H2H.

Who on earth said DD was meant to be online? lol
Online is full of pay to win cheesers and I'd rather not have to worry about if I'm going to get a decent opponent.
As someone else stated, for me my time is limited with having a full time job, wife, and two kids. Not to mention God forbid I may actually want to play another game occasionally. It takes most of my gaming time to keep up with all the offline content so I have absolutely no reason to subject myself to all the complaints people have about online opponents.
This is like the epitome of what SDS is trying to accomplish. Most of your time is spent on content and content is irrelevant to offline players. You could have used any player the day the game came out as much as you wanted. Quite literally every mission and moment you “accomplished” was wasted time and energy. You could just be playing the game with the player you are trying to earn, or one of the other games you enjoy.
I’m sure SDS has a term for the boomers that are to stupid to dodge the online DD content but will never know, they don’t even tell us what quirks do.

Not sure why it matters? I'm sure they feel the same about online players. Different strokes for different folks. You should be glad every one doesn't always share the same opinions.
I only started online a few years ago but I see both sides. Sometimes I enjoy playing the computer on Rookie essentially to.have a HR derby. Less stressful than online play.

You also have to pay to play online. PS Plus is not worth it if you hardly ever play online.
