Struggling with top players

Anyone else struggle with some of the games top players?
Soriano - I am awful w/ him. Took me about 15 ab to even get a little seeing eye single.
Rizzo - started off on fire first few games but now can’t hit anything
Thome? My god …. Might as well blindfold me.Maybe just pressing bc I wanna do well with them, but man … rough.
But CJ Abrams?! He’s my MVP. Make it make sense!

I'm horrible with Soriano... I have him P5 and he's on the bench on my All Yankees...

I've seen complaints of Soriano's swing being slow. I just recently got him and had minimal success in Ranked so far (was hitting well in BR but thats usually against bronze to gold cards).
You may just be pressing, also players are less likely to attack a card like Soriano/Thome/Rizzo than a CJ Abrams which may also be a factor. Sometimes just moving them around in the batting order helps. I've had guys in past years I struggle with at the top of the lineup but do really well lower.

I just got Soriano. I caved and bought deGrom to finish the NL.
First AB I grounded out, but flailed at an outside pitch. Second, homer.
I went 2-4 with him first game.
I mash with Thome to the point I'm in no rush to get Ortiz.
I was early a lot with Sori swings, fwiw. -

I was early a lot with Sori swings, fwiw.Hope you have continued success with him. I got him the same way and caved in to buy Degrom (who is nasty lol). I wanted the Soriano card from the get-go, so I know I’m just overly excited with him. Offspeed, low and away? I’m swinging!

Great point. Abrams gets a lot of good pitches to hit, but if I’m not patient with the others, I’m striking out on three pitches out of the zone.

I like Soriano. MVP is 99 Jackie Robinson. I been using a lineup of players to finish mission. Yesterday, Robinson was on my bench. I got down 1-0 in the 7th I pinch hit bring in Robinson hits a solo shot game is tied 1-0. I think it was the 9th I hit a 3 run shot with Robinson won 4-1.

Thome has a weird hitch in his swing. It's slower than others. His stride is also quick and is hard to time imo. I was excited to use his card but I'm pretty underwhelmed by it. The key with Soriano is to look away when hitting with him. For some reason the ball jumps off his bat on balls middle and away.

i do not care for Ortiz, I can not wait to get Murray.

Soriano just has a slow swing so unless you adjust you approach you will struggle with him. The others combined with your success with Abrams sounds like you might be pressing with your big hitters and swinging outside the zone more, combined with opposing players pitching around the big hitters more out of fear this leads to strikeouts and weak contact. I do the same thing when I get shiny new cards. Their first few games I end up hitting sub .200 with them. Right around the time I write them off and stop caring they start climbing up to .350-.400 due to me not pressing and opponents not fearing them due to their average and challenging them.

It's all about using players you are good with, I still have LS Acuna in my lineup, 42 Grisham on my bench, LS Story was hitting close to .450 for me online, I was in the top 50 getting him to P5, now I have his 96 and it won't ever leave my lineup. What works for others won't always work for you, I'm not great with Chipper or Ortiz for that matter, that 96 Banks hates me, but I mash with TA2 Bench, and Torre. You don't need to use 99 cards to find success.

Yep! I cannot hit with Soriano to save my soul. He's terrible at the plate. I'm sure others rake with him though. But Thome is my most reliable PH. I think it's just different for everyone. BTW. I'm right handed but in the game I hit better with Lefties. I don't know why.

Do you notice he’s a little slow to turn on inside fb? I can’t decide if it’s just a small sample size or a mental thing. He crushes anything out over the plate though

You might be right. I did notice over the plate as you mentioned, and towards the outer part of plate he is better at. -
Never done well with Piazza but I keep choosing him as a reward. I have also started out AWFUL with Glaus.

Last two nights I switch to Helton Rookie card, his card for me plays above what it should. I like his swing. Playing him over Ortiz and Thome. I still Have Ortiz on my bench. Ortiz Defense has not played well for me.

My batting avg is like .258 with Thome but I attribute that to facing so many lefties all the time. Whenever I face righties I hit at least 1 homerun in a game with him.

I don’t have Glaus, but I notice most people with him have lower numbers. Only seen a handful of high avg. HR/RBI with him.
