I just can’t listen to them anymore; my parents were teenagers when they came out and of course listened to it; heard it growing up and can’t take it anymore. My dad was a big fan of Elvis and Johnny Cash, and I agree with Cash for sure. I’m in the same boat as another poster: I’ll take the Stones before the Beattles, especially the earlier stuff like Paint It Black and this era.

I liked Lenon’s scratchy voice way more than Paul, especially on songs like Revolution. The Stone Temple Pilots’ cover was great (and sadly both performers died too soon).

It’s because they’re the most overrated band in history.

My mother absolutely loved the Beatles. I grew up listening to it. It was a big part of me growing up to where I incorporated the Beatles into my wedding. My wife walked down the aisle to When I’m Sixty-Four. I never saw my mother so happy as she had no idea that we were doing it.

All you really need to know is the Allman Brothers......Or the Grateful Dead

Love the Beatles and many of the other bands some of you have mentioned in this thread. I second this about the good ol' Grateful Dead though. Many great ones out there but nobody beats the Dead.

Perhaps you are not familiar with Hootie and the Blowfish or The Barenaked Ladies...

Anyone else here from the all-night queue in 1993 at the Ticketmaster outlet near Chattanooga, for Pink Floyd tix in Nashville the next year? I was second in line with my university buds and when the doors opened in the morning, the computers went down for 30 minutes. We ended up waaaay at the back of Vanderbilt Stadium. Still a great show.

Saw Floyd division bell at Giants stadium. 8th row center stage. Plane crashed over my head. I think I'm still high from the show. I remember drinking a 6 pack of Bud Ice pregame in the parking lot.

I bet that was an amazing show, 8th row center stage. That's awesome! Sometimes the parking lot scene before the show can be almost as much fun as the show itself as well.

A few years ago I spent about 15$ on ITunes and purchased the “greatest hits” from every single decade available. I couldn’t believe how far it went back but it’s quite the experience, also a bit shocking how many songs were about “reefer” back in the thirty’s and fourties lol. Since then I listen to every and all types of music, different situations call for different types of music, having as many available is a blessing.

Spotify is probably the best monthly subscription in the world right in my opinion.

Every music evolves from another. Very very very few artists though have the staying power and can truly be tied all the way back to music decades before.

Classical, blues, funk, big band... They all lead to rock, pop, r&b etc. Finding organic relationships to each other is one of the greatest aspects of music.

Allman Brothers when Duane was still alive. No better live album than Live at Filmore East

Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd say hello.

Expand your musical mind, and good things will come.

Was going to say I lean towards Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, personally though I love Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden is probably my favorite band ever. I don't think you can beat the 60's, 70s and 80's for music.

Bruh who was hiding The Beatles from us? Like I knew the existed but I always wrote it off as old music that I wouldn't like. Well I started listening on Spotify for fun to some of their top songs, like Come Together, Twist and Shout, Hey Jude, and Let It Be and this stuff slaps. Like still holds up today! Surprised I went 18 years before realizing this stuff is actually fire.

Congrats broski. One of the best bands all time and it's not even debatable

Reading the OP makes me sad for the younger generation of kids not knowing how good The Beatles and other bands were back than. Some lyrics are pure poetry and you feel it. Some are crazy (I’m talking to you Jethro Tulls “aqualung” and The Kinks “Lola”) lol I’m glad the OP finally found this gold of an era of music and just listen to the 60s/70s on shuffle and get lost in it while playing the show or in life in general!

    Your sarcasm is delicious!

If you're serious, the only explanation possible for not knowing The Beatles is that you were raised by polar bears on the Arctic Circle.
It is literary impossible to not know The Beatles.
