You’re wrong. I hadn’t played baseball since high school and joined an adult league at age 27. I had to relearn just about everything. Fielding came back relatively quickly.. hitting is a whole different story. If you haven’t even seen high school pitching, I doubt you even touch a single pitch. Have you even used a wood bat?

Watch the video, it doesn't look too fast, if I get 20 ABs I can just sit fastball and take a swing in the zone, that's probably 100 pitches so statistically I should connect with one and find a hole I feel like.

Bro... It’s a lot harder than you think haha. I don’t think you’d get a hit in 20 ABs against a Single A pitcher. Unless you played high level baseball into your 20s, you aren’t touching a thing without a ton of training and practice.

The worst hitting pitcher ever had about a .045 OBP in the MLB. Most pitcher only players still take BP and stuff so that’s not surprising, but that goes out the window since this is the worst hitting pitcher ever, in all likelihood, I can hit better than the worst hitting pitcher ever, and being an 18 yo male with a decent build, I think I could.

You said it all in one sentence, an 18 year old lol. You’re super young. I’m 30 and I can already tell you everything is easier said than done, and more things are harder than you think. Good to believe in yourself but it’s another thing to be realistic lol

Based on what I’ve seen looking at pitcher hitting stats and knowing what I know about good batting technique and having a good eye, I think 1-for-20 in 20 consecutive at bats isn’t too unrealistic. I’m not saying I’d be good enough to be even a single A player by any means, I just think with that many pitches all consecutively I could sit on something and eventually get a hit

I’d like to emphasize that I don’t think this is because MLB pitchers are bad, I just think that most adults aged 18-30 who have played baseball for 5 or so years at any level and know good technique and are in good physical condition would have a better chance than they think.

I think people can sometimes overestimate the skills of pro athletes a little bit, and as much as you think I’m underestimating them (which again, that’s not my argument at all) you are probably overestimating them.

I’m sick of this thread, this kid is clearly not a reasonable thinker. Everyone has told him no and he still thinks he can. Maybe get onto your high school team first. You wouldn’t get a hit and let it go. You see how many of these guys played D1? They are really good and yet couldn’t make it to the minors. This thread is [censored] stupid.

Making the minors requires consistency not 1-for-20, I also can’t make my high school team because I’m done high school and my school didn’t even have a team

In 100 pitches from an mlb arm guys Mow down a heavy hitting lineup for less than 5-8 hits thru 6+ innings. I have no doubt in my mind that you wouldn’t even get a hit prolly pass the infield. Hitting a baseball takes cat like reflexes that aren’t learned in 100 pitches. Your heart would be throbbing at the plate when 90+ mph blows past you. I doubt you could hit the fastball because you gotta pretty much see it before it comes to hit it

Yes but each batter only gets 2-3 ABs versus that pitcher and sabermetrics tells us that by even the third AB batter’s hit way better. I’m also not facing Cole here, I’m facing the average 5.00 ERA MLB Joe.

Yeah. Go to the batting cages and try to hit 85. You probably can't. Now imagine someone throwing 10-15mph faster than that, who can change speeds with serious movement. You are getting 0 hits in 20 at bats and it would be a miracle if you made any contact at all. Confidence is good start though

It's better than another thread about either Contact hitting or, directional hitters.

This is incorrect, if it's not make it take it, I could score once or twice in a game to 21 against an NBA bench player.

This is probably true but hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in any sport unlike basketball.

You are talking about a professional MLB pitcher where a Hall of Fame hitter would only get 6 hits in 20 at bats. A sport where there are guys getting 4 hits in 20 at bats getting paid millions.

A college pitcher would not need a defense to keep you hitless. Neither would most All-State, All-region type High Schoolers. Put a defense behind them and any weak contact you make is getting out. I could invite you out to my son's 14U travel team tournament this weekend and we could take 10 kids from that and give you 20 at bats each, so 200 at bats, and I am certain you would still go hitless. And some of them might not even reach 80.

The average college pitcher with no defense would absolutely give up a hit to me.

If I played 14u right now? I’d easily be the best player on your team.

It also doesn’t equivocate to someone making a post saying “I’d throw out Rickey” as a meme. I’m not talking about the greatest to ever pitch, I’m talking about a 5 ERA guy.

Ok. What if we could devise an experiment where you’d have a batting machine like this one:
    https://youtu.be/Q_F9CxSmGOM
And you could program it to randomly swing through different parts of the zone and to randomly swing based on the speeds of a fastball, change, and slider. What would the odds be of the machine making contact against a real pitcher? It would just be random probability, but it would eventually happen wouldn’t it? And it could potentially happen on the first pitch. I think this dude could do it. But it would be based random probability. If you were to blindfold someone, and had them randomly swing against a pitcher, there’s a chance they could get a hit. Obviously, this isn’t exactly what he’s arguing, but I still think it’s possible. Not likely, but possible. Surely there’s some real work I need to be doing.

OP, you'd get smoked. Ive seen too many good batters go into deep slumps. That's guys who see this type of pitching on the daily. The number 4 prospect in baseball, since call up, can't even much get it going. You think you could hold your own? Think again. Youd be lucky if a pitcher didn't try some chin music while he laughs as you pi** all over yourself.

I think Kelenic has been looking good. Solid contact and deep at bats, not many K’s. Just remember how long it took Vladdy to get going...

The talent is there. It generally takes a minute to adjust to that pitching. Theres one rookie that I've been super impressed with that it didn't take but a minute for him to adjust and that is the Twins, Alex Kiriloff. Kelenic will get it going.
